This is such a haunting video. Beautiful illustrations. The music is just perfect - along with the images it really captures that gothic Dickensian aesthetic - the heart, the passion, the tragedy, the consciousness of the time. Bravo.
I was born in the late fall of 1978. The 1968 Briilant, Classic, Iconic Musical Movie, Oliver! is one of my favorite movies of all time. The storyboards of the brutal violent murder of Nancy by Bill Sykes at the London Bridge intertwined with the movie footage is very disturbing, heartbreaking, heart wrenching, shocking, and unnerving. It is one of the most violent scenes in movie history. It still bothers and upsets me very much! The Scene where he grabs Nancy by the throat and then by the arm and slaps her to the ground in front of Fagin and Fagin's boys and belittles her still upsets me! Fagin is very much partly to blame for the murder of Nancy because he sets her up. That also still bothers me very much!
Oliver reed totally deserved the role of Bill Sykes he did amazing job! Id do anything for you even fight my bill?what fisticuffs!!! Great artistry you captured it very well I watch this every so often brilliantly done!
Oliver Reed was very much like Bill Sykes in real life! The actor Oliver Reed didn't associate with the other cast members! Who was brooding and moody! Oliver Reed was a violent drunk who started ball room brawls and got one of the female dancers pregnant while making the movie! She refused marry him! He was married at the time!
Oliver Reed was Broody and Moody! Both Mark Lester who portrayed Oliver Twist and Shani Wallis who portrayed Nancy said that he would not associate with other cast members! He was a very intense dark presence! Oliver Reed was very much like Bill Sykes in real life, he was a violent drunk who started violent bar room brawls. He was an aggressive womanizing sexual predator to many young women. He got one of the extra female dancers pregnant while filming the movie. She refused to marry him. He was already marred at the time!
@JuanMacready Shani did not look 40. She was beautiful in that film. Passion with a bit of glamour and statue. Mark Lester was the perfect OLIVER, the right mixture of sensitivity and intuitiveness. The lip synch was perfect in WHO WILL BUY and WHERE IS LOVE. Nobody even questioned it at the time. It wasn't until 20 years later that it finally leaked out.
It's rather prophetic that Roman Polanski ended up directing his own version of the Oliver Twist tale, since this film version came out in the late 1960s, around the time that Polanski's beautiful & kind wife Sharon Tate & her houseguests were brutally and senselessly murdered by a pack of Chalres Manson's thugs. For me, Nancy's devastating end mirrored the death of Sharon Tate. One author said with the Manson murders, so ended the dream of the 60s. "Oliver!" stood at that sorrowful transition.
@JuanMacready Don't believe the rumors. When did he say that? I've been in the same room with both of them. NOBODY knew about Kathe Green until the 20th anniversary reunion when it was announced. The dubbing is great in Who Will Buy and Where is Love. I agree with you when Mark sings I'D DO ANYTHING. That could have been better. Alot of British boys have HIGH soprano voices.
@JuanMacready Barbara Windsor is more comedy. She also isn't as sexy as Shani or glamourous, nor is her singing voice as good. Don't get me wrong, I like Barbara Windsor, but one just has to see her in CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG to know what she would have been like as Nancy at that time.
Suresh Thekketh She had no choice not even a single one, for she lived all her life in the east side of London at that time, when a poor man fall for a poor woman like Skies and Nuncy they felt connected to each other and believed it or not some men at that time force ladies to be their girls without mirage for poor girls couldn't pay the dowry and lost their virginity with them, I don't know why there's a 2 different death seens in the midea but I read in the classic book that Nuncy killed in a room with a sleeping lingeri and the wicked Jew makes Skies joules before going to her in a plan to kill her for she helped Oliver to escape..

Hi - your drawings are amazing! You capture the characters and the emotions perfectly. Are they available to buy at all?
@CARSONART She wasn't forty when she made the film. She was in her early thirties at the most.
She would have been 34-35 when she made that movie. She's a year younger than my mom.

@JuanMacready Nobody could have brought the passion, warmth and talent to the part any better
Nice pictures. Cliff Carson is good at that stuff, I guess.
