  • Dr. Jordan Peterson educates a climate activist on personal responsibility and she is not happy about it. 😅
How do you want to improve America? By focusing on improving and refining yourself? Or by transforming society? The answer to that question will reveal whether you're on the Left or the Right.

"Jordan Peterson educates a climate activist", this implies that the activist learned something, she did not. She heard something she didn't like and flatly refused it. She learned nothing.

This is an excellent point. Whilst it appeared that Dr P had identified the issue with the questioner, he didn't slightly educate the person.
      That said:
      - the discussion about catastrophe needs to be defined, and billions of small steps taken by people CAN turn the tide
      - the discussion in a public setting like this would be near impossible for the person to expose their personal challenges

It struck me and realized how true it is, some doesn’t want to agree with this statement but it’s very true whether we like it or not.

Nailed it. Solid wisdom and common sense. Saw this insanity starting at a liberal college in South Africa in the 80's. As a young Christian I was scorned and despised, and couldn't understand why. I didn't make the connection between the liberals and the Communists. I hated Apartheid, I visited my black friends in their homes- taboo for whites back then- I was making myself and my immediate world better. Did they laud me? They ignored that. CHANGING THE GOVERNMENT TO A SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT WILL INVARIABLY LEAD TO COMMUNISM OR FASCISM AND REMOVAL OF FREEDOMS BECAUSE THEY ABSOLUTELY HATE PEOPLE THAT ARE ACTUALLY BETTER THAN THEMSELVES AND WILL FALSELY ACCUSE AND PERSECUTE THEM AS HAS HAPPENED IN EVERY COMMUNIST COUNTRY. WITHOUT MAKING PEOPLE BETTER, SOCIETY GETS WORSE, YOU MUST GO ALONG WITH THEIR NARRATIVE, ANY INDIVIDUALITY IS SUPPRESSED. And we can't see this happening? We need to wake up!!

Mostly, I think the young lady doesn't connect with Peterson's point. She may be so far removed from it that she can't or won't accept it for what it is: truth and wisdom. Her reaction tells me she's discussed that Peterson chooses not to field her question directly, but to instead, answer her that by building good character in ones self, sound judgements will follow. Too bad the panel member intervened. Maybe if he hadn't, Peterson would have connected with her and other viewers.

Matt Voloshen - this is like the biggest leftie show in Australia. The thing that strikes me as odd on behalf of Jordan Peterson and whoever helped him pick and choose which media he would take part in is; this show is based around the idea that a panel of people have a very short time (1 min in most cases) to answer about complex social issues. They are basically forced to give very black or white answers to extremely complex issues, this adds to the polarisation of the subjects and makes you either for or against with almost no room for middle ground. As anyone who has heard Peterson speak, one minute is not long enough for him to give a full measured answer.

Well it's interesting that Jordan kinda assumes that this lady doesn't have her house in order. It isn't so much a logical point as it is an implied insult based on assumed information. He might be right, maybe she is terrible at managing things, but he somewhat dodges the question by saying that she is focusing on the wrong things. You cant just assume that everyone is a train wreck who should focus on bettering themselves. Perhaps this lady is really put together and organized, the video really doesn't say. So for something like climate change, yeah you can recycle and bike to work instead of drive, but individual change isn't going to make a difference when companies and nations are outputting billions of tons of lousy stuff into the air on a daily basis.

@@joshtaylor9773 But he doesn't. He said "people who does not have their houses in order...", he didn't said anything of the lady. Also, the phrase "house in order" is commonly used by Dr. Peterson as a metaphorical way of saying "before judging others, be sure to have your life in order". This partly comes from Nietzschean philosophy where you need to put yourself to the limit for a considerable amount of time so you could someday be your full potential and a competent person. In a sense, i think that is the principle critic of Dr. Peterson to young folks. If you really want to improve your community, put yourself to the limit and invest in you in a way that someday you will be enough competent to adress the main problems of the society.
