In real life Malarkey found out the German soldier he talked to by the roadside actually worked across the street from him back in Oregon, but the producers of the show thought it would be too hard to believe. The paratroopers were outnumbered and behind enemy lines during the invasion, which they still didn’t know for sure wouldn’t be turned back. They simply didn’t have facilities for prisoners nor men to guard them.

I remember this, same happened in Australia. Reminded me of a similarly eerie coincidence when Buffy The Vampire Slayer had Toulon their scheduled episode the week Columbine happened, because the entire plot revolved around a potential school shooting. That ep ended up. It being aired at all in the U.S until the following year.

They're not professional though. These are citizen-soldiers. They were doing anything at all before they signed up. Farmers, cab drivers, bartenders, waiters, college students, anything at all. They signed up because they felt it was necessary, and when it was over, most of them went back to their lives.

26:37 In theory, they had pre designated drop zones, large flat drylands scouted out beforehand using maps and recon aircraft. Those would be lit up by small pathfinder units that where dropped a few hours ahead of the main drop. However, with the night anf the anti-aircraft fire, a lot of pilot started doing evasive manoeuvers, and lost their way. As a result, most of the 12000 men of the 101st and 82nd Airborne division ended up scattered all over the peninsula.
Luckily for us, it turned out to our advantage because they were very well trained, and because they were everywhere hitting their objectives and targets of opportunities in small groups, the germans where utterly confused and couldn't mount an effective counter attack.

A couple things about Episode 2: First, so many of the planes were still closer to cruising speed than jump speed when they jumped (many still going more than 160kph faster than they were meant to jump at), and the blast from the propellers was strong enough to cause the hookups for some of their equipment to break. That's why so many were missing things on the ground. The most common thing that they lost was their additional "leg bag", which the veteran at the beginning calls "famous". Well, that was why they were famous, you were lucky if you still had them when you landed.
Second, they changed where Malarky was from when he talks to the German soldier from Oregon. They were actually from the same city and worked in factories that were literally on opposite sides of the street from each other. The creators worried it was so coincidental that the audience wouldn't believe it, but it's actually true...

13000 men dropping out of a midnight sky, on top of the German Army. Yes, some Americans served in the German Army and the Soviet Army. Before Pearl Harbor, Americans served in the RAF. My mother and grandmother were Rosies. My father-in-law was a civilian in the War department, his brothers were in the Army. Mother's cousin was in the Army (Germany), as was another grandfather (N Africa, Iraq, Iran). 15,000 French civilians lost their lives during the Normandy attack ... mostly in pre-invasion bombings.

What’s with all the blurred scenes? For a 10 part war depiction, this series isn’t gory whatsoever.

What was with the editing on this? I only got about five minutes in and that's all I can take. You keep cutting it in the middle of lines of dialog, and also in the middle of your comments. This is borderline incoherent and I can't imagine trying to watch all ten episodes of this.

I'm afraid you will get a lot of warnings like this one...episode 9 is very hard to watch...have a box of tissue with you.

Pretty gay how you censored it
