It was touching to see the men, after destroying the guns, standing by a memorial to Soldiers from WWI.
In real life Malarkey found out the German soldier he talked to by the roadside actually worked across the street from him back in Oregon, but the producers of the show thought it would be too hard to believe. The paratroopers were outnumbered and behind enemy lines during the invasion, which they still didn’t know for sure wouldn’t be turned back. They simply didn’t have facilities for prisoners nor men to guard them.
Shooting an unarmed PoW is a war crime.
Truly our greatest generation. My father was in the Marine Corps during WW-2 fighting in the Pacific. His brother, my uncle was in the Navy serving as a Hospital Corpsman assigned to the Marines. They are the reason I joined the Marine Corps when I finished high school and turned 18.

Episode 1 aired on 9 September 2001. It was terrifying and inspirational. 36 hours later the Twin Towers were hit. It was a terribly gut wrenching feeling watching episode 2 two weeks later (I think it was delayed by a week, if memory serves)
It’s as big of a coincidental release as “The China Syndrome” is to Three Mile Island Accident
And the first "public" preview was on 06.06.2001. Place Normandy invasion museum right on Omaha Beach if I remember precisely. The audience, real men of Easy Company with their families.

I remember this, same happened in Australia. Reminded me of a similarly eerie coincidence when Buffy The Vampire Slayer had Toulon their scheduled episode the week Columbine happened, because the entire plot revolved around a potential school shooting. That ep ended up. It being aired at all in the U.S until the following year.

They're not professional though. These are citizen-soldiers. They were doing anything at all before they signed up. Farmers, cab drivers, bartenders, waiters, college students, anything at all. They signed up because they felt it was necessary, and when it was over, most of them went back to their lives.
A lot of the war at sea was along the coast of Canada near you in Acadian Canada out in the ocean. But this specific series in Band of Brothers takes place in battles in Normandy, France, the Netherlands, the Ardennes forest in Belgium the Rhine River in Germany and Bavaria and Austria.
The best series ever to premiere on Television.
Followed closely by “The Pacific”.
26:37 In theory, they had pre designated drop zones, large flat drylands scouted out beforehand using maps and recon aircraft. Those would be lit up by small pathfinder units that where dropped a few hours ahead of the main drop. However, with the night anf the anti-aircraft fire, a lot of pilot started doing evasive manoeuvers, and lost their way. As a result, most of the 12000 men of the 101st and 82nd Airborne division ended up scattered all over the peninsula.
Luckily for us, it turned out to our advantage because they were very well trained, and because they were everywhere hitting their objectives and targets of opportunities in small groups, the germans where utterly confused and couldn't mount an effective counter attack.

Band of Brothers is the greatest piece of cinematography ever made.
This series is Soooo GOOD, but it’s definitely heartbreaking at times too.
I recommend Saving Private Ryan & Hacksaw Ridge. Awesome Military movies.
Such a good miniseries! My brother and sister used to watch this every Sunday night for their history class.
A couple things about Episode 2: First, so many of the planes were still closer to cruising speed than jump speed when they jumped (many still going more than 160kph faster than they were meant to jump at), and the blast from the propellers was strong enough to cause the hookups for some of their equipment to break. That's why so many were missing things on the ground. The most common thing that they lost was their additional "leg bag", which the veteran at the beginning calls "famous". Well, that was why they were famous, you were lucky if you still had them when you landed.
Second, they changed where Malarky was from when he talks to the German soldier from Oregon. They were actually from the same city and worked in factories that were literally on opposite sides of the street from each other. The creators worried it was so coincidental that the audience wouldn't believe it, but it's actually true...
This is some of the best filmmaking and some of the best casting ever done
An before I forget. Canadian Soldiers were right by our side in many battles. All respect to your fallen country men in this war.

Of every 100 men who volunteered for the 101st 90 failed- if you failed you were still obligated to the war effort you were just transferred out to another unit.
Easy company and the 506
regiment were trained the hardest a soldier could have been at that time.
The old men, you see at the beginning, and throughout all episodes, are men from Easy Company, which this story is about
All these men are volunteers for the air borne. They can quit or be sent back to their regular army unit at anytime up until deployment.
Ambrose notes that it took 5,300 volunteers to graduate 1,800 qualified paratroopers. Brutal
This just reminded me that I bought the metal box bluray box sets for "Band of Brothers" & "The Pacific". I watched "The Pacific" but haven't yet rewatched "Band of Brothers". I will follow you on this journey.

To know this actually happened and was accurate in the depiction, is staggering.

many years ago while driving taxi, i was fortunate enough to briefly meet and chat with one of the men about whom this program was made. i will not give his name until the end to avoid spoilers. but i was refueling my taxi, grabbing a snack and drink for myself and happened to bump into him. i recognized him and we exchanged pleasantries for roughly 20~30 seconds. i know it wasn't much time, but at least i had a chance to thank him for what he had done, and let him know that the men of Easy Company were heroes to me and my children.

Sobel would’ve died during the jump of Normandy if he didn’t get transferred. The man who took over died when his plane was shot down. The man Simon Peg played also died during the same time. In the long run it saved his life.
Many of these men hadn't even seen their 20th birthday when they jumped over Normandy. Many hadn't even seen their 20th birthday before they died, either.
Michael Kamen's score alone is enough to push those emotions. Strap yourself in.
About D-Day, They knew by flying over the French coast that German ant-aircraft guns would be there, firing a wall of flak. There really wasn't anything else the troop transports could do except fly into it to get over their drop zones.

To understand what so many kids / men from America Canada England Australia and all countries throughout Europe did to literally save the world. You sweetie are in for a hell of a ride. You're going to learn to love these guys, you're going to cry, and You're gonna laugh. All of this is based on true events of the 101st easy company 506. There are some discrepancies but not many. In episode 2 when Easy Company was taking out the guns at Brecourt Manor, my father was coming on shore at Utah Beach.

The flashes in the sky over Normandy were NOT weather. They were German anti-aircraft artillery shells exploding.
13000 men dropping out of a midnight sky, on top of the German Army. Yes, some Americans served in the German Army and the Soviet Army. Before Pearl Harbor, Americans served in the RAF. My mother and grandmother were Rosies. My father-in-law was a civilian in the War department, his brothers were in the Army. Mother's cousin was in the Army (Germany), as was another grandfather (N Africa, Iraq, Iran). 15,000 French civilians lost their lives during the Normandy attack ... mostly in pre-invasion bombings.

13:13 as someone who has actually fired most of the small arms in this miniseries, let me say that it’s quite the experience. I even own some of the guns in the miniseries (namely the semi auto M1 Garand, the bolt action ‘03A3 Springfield, and 1911 handgun). However, nothing gets the blood flowing and adrenaline rushing like a machine gun.
Great series! Seen it a ton of times, but I'll watch it again with you.

The actors are portraying real people in real situations and using the names of the actual soldiers involved

Remember that these men jumped into the war in June, 1944.
Canadians had been in the war since 1939. The western most beaches were American, Utah and Omaha. Next was a British beach, Gold, followed by a Canadian beach, Juno. The eastern most was sword, a British beach. The historian John Keegan sees the Canadian action as payback for Dieppe.
As far as I know the Canadians were the only ones to fully achieve their goals that day.
@@ronweber1402 Correct as to sea-borne forces but I believe British paratroopers achieved their primary objective by securing a bridge over a canal that allowed others to advance.

WWI was hell. My great-uncle was marching to the Argonne when the Armistice happened. My great-aunt was serving in a hospital outside of London. My grandfather was in the Army motor pool in San Antonio TX. I have seen all three versions of All Quiet On The Western Front. Have you seen the TV version of Lost Battalion? Americans are gangsters. We make Germans afraid.

The pilot and co-pilot were unable to wear parachutes. The cockpit was too small. If their plane was hit,..... they "went down with the ship".

What’s with all the blurred scenes? For a 10 part war depiction, this series isn’t gory whatsoever.
What was with the editing on this? I only got about five minutes in and that's all I can take. You keep cutting it in the middle of lines of dialog, and also in the middle of your comments. This is borderline incoherent and I can't imagine trying to watch all ten episodes of this.
