The Isle of Man TT or Tourist Trophy races are an annual motorcycle racing event run on the Isle of Man in May/June of most years since its inaugural race in 1907. The event is often called one of the most dangerous racing events in the world as many competitors have died.

2022 races ended a few weeks ago and sadly one of the most deadly years with 5 riders losing their lives , including a father and son in the side car event . RIP and condolences to their families / friends .
Still though I’d like to race in this one day (although probably a bad idea as I’m much better in a car that a bike)
This race is about bragging rights. Not everything is about money! Just participating would qualify you as a bad ass on a bike. It's so beautiful to see ppl doing what they love, even if it mean risking your life for it. Now that's passion!
u have to remember, that Peter Hickman had to pass, at least 7 other riders, while making that record... i think, if he was on that lap, by him self, the time would be better...

Great video, we have something similar in Northern Ireland called the North West 200, its 2nd only to the Isle of Man
My wife's grandfather was a leading TT racer back in the late 1920s and early 1930s. He never won the Senior race but was a Junior (350cc) champion.
The Isle of Man is a great place to visit even when the TT isn't on. It has original fully operational steam trains running on one side of the island and original Victorian electric trams running on the other side aswel as the Snaefell electric railway riding to the top of Snaefell mountain. Also has horse drawn trams along the sea front (promenade) in Douglas the capital, now a city. Beautiful Victorian hotels and country side. Ferries from England, Northern Ireland and Ireland.
The horse drawn trams don't run anymore. They spent millions revamping the promenade and some idiot at the local council ordered the wrong gauge track. First time they tried to run a tram it got wrecked. I know because my brother lives there
We are thanful in not being part of the UK, so can run the TT with support of our government, competitors, visting spectators, the orange army and residents of the Isle of Man . The media thrives on tragedy as was observed this year. But the average Joe sitting on his sofa listening or reading such news has no idea about the attraction of road racing. Those people should stay home and keep their opinions to themselves. Visit the island, watch the TT and make memories to last a lifetime. The Manx Grand Prix starts later this month. Come and enjoy.
My cousin first took me as a pillion aged 10. 46years later I finally made it to the TT. Damn, what an experience and I'll definitely be back.
@@munkihanger. Well done on making the journey, Diane. The Manx Grand Prix blasts off on the 21st of this month. If you can't make it here, there's radio coverage and online live timing available. I just the conditions will be as good as the TT so I can get some nice videos for my channel. :)

As two other commenters, including Manxmann, have said, the Isle of Man is basically independent, which is why it can have its own safety rules.
It is not part of the UK, and when we were in the European Union, it wasn't. The only connection is that Queen Elizabeth II is also Lord of Mann. The UK Government looks after its foreign affairs and defence. It has its own, utterly different, language, Manx, which is a Celtic language; officially the last person speaking Manx as a mother tongue died in 1974. However the last few speakers were recorded, and the language is being successfully revived.
Its Parliament, Tynwald is one of the most ancient in the world, and promulgates its acts in Manx and English. Its flag has the Triskelion, the 'Three Legs of Man'.
And the native breed of cat has no tails...
I appreciate this extra information I didn't really know in full and parts at all until comments such as this which added more to the Isle of Man, and the last very random but very good fact about the Isle of Man native breed of cats! Would have never known but gave me a good laugh as well. I'm off to look these cats up :)
Not hating, but Americans won't understand, ITS NOT ABOUT THE MONEY, like you think its crazy to ride it without a monetary reward, its about testing yourself to the baddest race track, "a road", to be able to go in the pub and say you raced in the TT, let alone say you won a TT race, to bikers you'd be a God like being, plus you'd look funny with 3 helmets on your arm, 1 for your head, and 2 for your balls, then again I,ve seen women who compete and they carry 3 helmets, who knows what they are for, I,ve never had the balls to ask one of them,
The climbing Everest comparison seems about right, no one races in the TT for the money, it's just to have done it.
the TT track is clockwise. not anticlockwise. currently the southern 100 races are ongoing now on the billown circuit in the south of the island. I watched the first race last night. and I get 3 days off work to watch it.
The Southern 100 is a really good race to watch live. I go over from Northern Ireland every year. Great racing and the roads are not as busy. The weather was class this year.

I have been riding bikes since 1972 and still find it relaxing. To me it also makes you a better car driver as it makes you more aware of the road. My present bike is a Yamaha FZ6 which i have toured Europe on twice and use when the weather is good for a daily commute to work.
The Isle Of Man , is an independent country ,on its own , and answers to no one....
It’s a crown dependent. It’s people are protected by the British Armed Force’s and it’s population can join the British forces. During the Second World War it was TOLD by the British Government to turn a lot of the Isle in a prisoner of war camp and it did!…….. it answers to the British Government that allows it to govern itself!
Geekie Fact - W O Bentley, who went on to found Bentley Motors in 1919, was a motorcycle racer, racing in the Isle of Man TT, in 1909 he rode Quadrant, Rex and in 1910 he was a factory rider for Indian Motorcycles
Just over a decade later, in 1922, he entered three Bentley 3ltr cars, finishing 2nd, 4th and 5th after a gruelling race, and the legend of Bentley was begun
It goes without saying, it’s not about the money, it’s about the challenge, if you enter for the money, you are entering for the wrong reason

Barry Sheene refused to ride the IoM TT claiming it would be too great a risk. Full respect to anyone who takes it on. You have to be a certain breed
There is something special here in this race, its the last place where men can compete without restriction, it is "fight club" mentality. Instinctively men are drawn to this, its not just about the bikes or even the race it goes way deeper than that. If anything, there appears to be a collective frown from the fans when it get out on youtube because more people means more calls to ban or control it!
Although the health and safety brigade are constantly upset with this race ..it precisely because of the danger that its so fiercely protected by the riders and fans. You might as well try to ban the Atherstone Ball Game..
This race is for real men its been going for 107 years here in the UK dont think its crazy it is skill at its best. Its for people that love bikes I have been a few times over the years.
This is old data now, the theoretical fastest average speed of 136.4mph was nearly broken by Peter Hickman this year, he did a 136.358mph lap finishing the lap in 16mins 36.115 seconds, less than 1 second off "perfect" lap pace, give it a couple of years and we will likely see a 137mph lap from the solos. Hell the Birchall brothers broke a 120mph sidecar lap this year!
I'm a motor sports junkie and I can assure you this race would not be allowed in most countries around the world due to liability. On the other hand, have you watched rally cross? It's the same thing only you are strapped in a car with a roll cage, but the motorcycles race the Baha 1000, then there is the Dakar Rally. They have high death tolls as well, but nothing is like TT racing.
To take part insanity is not a requirement, but for sure, it helps.

For most of the riders it's not about the money it's about the bragging rights for being the fastest rider on the TT. here's a fact about the TT more riders died at the TT after the races have finished. Due to the road being opened to the public as some people watching the races thinking they can do the same when the cars are driving around as well. Outside of the towns there's no speed limit.
These riders are heroes knowing their positioning has to be perfect.If you make a mistake you know your going to be badly injured or dead.
This event is the most sobering between Man and Machine in the world I think. The whole thing is a death trap, yet these men just do it year after year. Long may it continue despite the sad loss of life. If you're gonna die, you may as well do what you enjoy.
No more insane than climbing Mt Everest . How many people have been killed doing that ? But the sense of euphoria one must feel standing on the top must be the same thing experienced by a rider winning the TT. If only I had the nerve to do either .🏴
The death rate is higher at the TT, the amount of people that have attempted to climb Mount Everest and the deaths compared to the small number that race the TT each year!
The ONE thing he didn't mention was the prize money, or lack of it......... you see, most of the field win zero, yes, zero. The big race (Senior TT), the winner "earns" his prize money on a lap by lap basis, so much for leading lap 1, lap 2 and so on....... the money accrues during the race, and if you are leading every lap you'll end up with just short of £20000 (about $25000).......... the sponsorship deals bring in more money.
So, why do they race???? kudos, the thrill and the reputation they'll earn......... not many people can say they were a success at the Isle of Man TT Races
It is simple.... racing is a deadly sport and they know it. That not only is for racing in the TT. Any motorsport bikes or cars is possible deadly .
This weekend an 18 year old Dutchman was killed in a formula race on Spa- Francorchamps.
No one twisted their arms to race in this race and the ppl who die doing it died doing what they love doing they should be celebrated
I hear people say this often.......They died doing what they loved. First off, they were doing what they loved AND THEN they died horribly. If they're lucky it's quick. But more often than not, it's no doubt the most pain they've ever experienced in their lives. It's not as if these people are going out with a smile on their faces, I promise you that. These racers dream of winning the race. None of them are dreaming of dying during the race. The ones that do, they're called nightmares. These racers (and spectators) are playing Russian roulette. Odds are you will live. But the odds aren't what you would call, great. I will say that most people who go are aware of the risks. But I would have to say that it is far from something that should be celebrated. When these riders tragically die, they leave behind wives, children, mom's and dad's and grandparents. And while many understand that their loved one were doing something they loved to do, I guarantee none are happy and celebrating.
That goes for any death especially for the love ones but for ppl who say they should cancel the race because it dangerous you know the type the ones who want ppl to walk around in Bubble wrap so they don’t cut their finger it is just called life

The TT is associated with the road racing series in Ireland and many of the riders compete in both. The Irish road racing is on closed country roads that are often narrower and bumpier that the TT course. Similar obstacles can be found and in many ways those road races are equally as dangerous although less extreme as the TT. You have to go back to the days of Agostini to find GP riders regularly competing in TT and many regard it as too dangerous. Few TT riders compete in circuit races, a notable exception is Peter Hickman, who competes in British Superbikes. today, no-one is successful in both road racing and circuit racing, they are different sports.
What's more dangerous than the isle of man TT? Jumping out of a plane without a parachute and trying to land in a bucket of water could be slightly more dangerous 😂✌️♥️🇬🇧
For cars, I know the Le Mans 24 Hour race is often quoted as the deadliest race, because you're combining fast cars with tired drivers. But actually the stats are skewed a lot by the fact that there was an accident in the 50s where over 80 people were killed in one crash, mostly spectators.
The only other race which could be as deadly has got to be WRC because of the nature of the sport racing against time on blind corners over hump back bridges near walls and treas and yet so close to the spectators

The reason to race there is to be able to say without a doubt you are the best in the world.

I would do it for nothing it is in our blood. The British love a challenge. I went round on my Ducati 200cc in the early sixties got stopped by the police and told to slow down. I had a girl on the back. great times.

Rally cars check those out with spectators standing on the roadsides
They get so close in some places you could reach out and touch them.
