John is a legend without a doubt, however even John has an Idol and that was and still is joey. I stood beside joey as a kid up at the pits in Portstewart. The man was and still is the legend Joey Dunlop. Watched these guys every summer racing right by my Estate. These men are the reason why I ride today.
Wore my riding gear in to grocery store the other day and a man approached me in the checkout. Told me about riding the tt back in the 70s. I told him straight up not me, I couldn't do something like that. Hats off to these racers.
I grew up in Armoy in the 70's and watching Joey Dunlop, Mervyn Robinson and Frank Kennedy doing the things they did all over Ireland and the Isle of Man with bikes hobbled together was an achievement in itself. Joey was and always will be the King of the Mountain and the ultimate Road Racer. If you didn't ever see the genius of William Joseph Dunlop on a motorcycle then you have never seen what a real road racer can do. He could jump on a 125, a 250, and then a superbike and smoke the opposition. Joeys 2nd 1000cc superbike win was in the Classic TT 1980 against the Honda works team of Mick Grant and Ron Haslam. Joey was on an old Yamaha with an oversize petrol tank that Hector O'Neill had welded up for him so he wouldn't have to pit but on the last lap the strap holding on the tank broke and Joey had to hold it with his knees in the final stages of the race. That was just a small example of his will to win that kept him winning.
I have been riding motorcycles since 2002. I was 23 years old. The TT has and always will be the greatest motor race on the planet. I have dreamed about riding it, watching it from the road, and sharing memories with all the locals. I am really pushing to make it this year.
@@nickchatburn Im pretty sure you need a race license to ride in the TT. From what I have learned you can go there and ride the course after hours during the weeks of the event.

Nobody knows how many Mike Hailwood would have won if his contract with Honda hadn't been used to stop him from racing for a decade at the height of his power. But he won both before and after that enforced hiatus, and is alone the reason for the fine handling bikes we have today - the Japanese just kept upping the horsepower saying if you had enough power you could make up on the straights what you lost in the bends. And because they could also afford to hire the best riders, they got away with it. Then Mike came back and rubbed their noses in it on the Sports Motorcycles Ducati privateer entry, beating works machines with at last one and a half times the horsepower on handling and sheer ability. THAT feat showed the Japanese manufacturers that handling properly over bumps and through bends matters at least as much as having a high power-to-weight ratio, and it is since then that the Japanese started producing increasingly fine-handling motorcycles. He showed them what difference it makes, and changed mass-market and racing motorcycles forever. No one else can claim that.
He’s got long enuf ahead of him to surpass his uncle joeys record , John has had an amazing career and although he’s not done yet he’s gonna find it very hard to beat joeys record with the current crop of upcoming talent as competition. Whether he manages to equal joeys record or not John is a living legend who’s record spks for itself. His name will always be in the history books where the TT is concerned and rightly so

The event is so man and machine. The top boys lapping at a brainbending 135mph laps. The risk is total. IMHO, anyone topping 100mph lap has a story to tell their Children. In this years races, I don't think anything tops Dean Harrison's ride. Two freaking high speed birdstrikes. Two. A smashed fairing. Balls the size of galaxies. I doubt many humans would ride to a great finish, on a smashed bike, and a double underwear wrecking set of events. Fucking epic. Respect to every rider. Its a really special thing, and an ultimate challenge for a man / machine. And a note on the side car boys. When I was a kid, on the Island, I watched Hizzy and foggy go balls to the wall over several years, including the trick oval piston years on ultra trick honda's, and Hizzy on the white charger which created a legend. They lapped at @120 mph and people pondered if the limit had been reached. The sidecar boys are now lapping at 120mph. Absolutely freaking staggering.
Remember back in 1978, my bike gave up the ghost a week before the TT. So desperate to see Mike Hailwood a friend and I drove to Liverpool in his van and parked it outside a relatives house got on the ferry as foot passengers were met by the rest of our pal's camped near Quarter Bridge. Fantastic sights and sounds. All who race the Island are true Gladiators of the sport.
The TT is definitely a bucket list item for me.. would've loved to have raced it back when I was racing.. but now I will be happy just to see it with my own eyes in person.
As a young man, I dreamed of racing the TT while practicing on the back-roads of Tennessee. Much to the chagrin of local law enforcement in three counties. WFO Joey was the Man
I've never been to the Isle of Man, but I've followed the TT for 25 years. I'm also a rider and have been for most of my life, and been a fan of anything with 2 wheels since I was a boy. This doesn't make me an expert by any means. Joey Dunlop was on such another level that his riding made him untouchable! Who wins the TT at 48 years old? He was beyond a generational talent...3 generations more like! Just built differently from normal people. John McGuiness is not Joey Dunlop, but he's also built differently. I remember watching him one year and couldn't believe what I saw. He didn't look fast anywhere on the course, but he was so smooth and so efficient in his riding style that he could shave seconds off his lap times. Every year I pray for the men who are going to go out and test themselves on the Isle of Man - the last bastion of racing freedom.
U gotta do it guarantee you won’t regret it but if u Dont make it that u will regret I can assure u there’s nothing else like it and I’m born and bred Manx for almost 60yrs

There is something extraordinary about these riders, I remember seeing Joey at a Skerries 100 waiting in line in some field, to buy a cup of tea at some tent. They are just disarmingly humble.
There is not any other sport in the world that has people willing to lay there life down to win or even compete and enjoy doing so it's just dedication like know other Serious respect too all involved ❤
King's or not , they are all heroes. Joey is top dog though with John and Molly close behind. What hickey is doing at the moment is outstanding but my all time heroes are Micheal and Bruce Anstey. I have been privileged to watch all of them
I grew up on the Island and remember the first 100mph lap, but my best memories were the MV vs Honda battles between Ago and Mike (the bike) Hailwood in the 60’s. My favourite memory of all was travelling back to the Island from Canada and watching Mike H come out of retirement in 1978 to win the Senior on a privateer Ducati - real lump in the throat stuff!
cant wait to see this years race.......even the dude who comes in last place at this race is a friggen stud, the balls and nerves to do this race are unsurpassed, many many moto gp riders and champions wont even touch this race, that speaks volumes!

Interesting comments and of course you are greatly influenced by your era and number of visits to the TT , no disrespect to the many great riders, but Ian Hutchison's 5 wins in a week is still to be surpassed, this was a truly outstanding achievement. If he had not had an accident what were we yet to see, we'll never know.

Joey, Hizzy, DJ & Mcguinness. All seemed to have a level above their fellow racers in their day. Hicky will be hard to dislodge in the Superbike & Senior TT, but a certain Mr Dunlop will have something to say about that. All that really matters is that everyone is safe and well.
John McGuinness is a true gentleman, at the NW200 last year he stood in his leathers for an hour, straight after the last race, signing autographs and chatting to punters, but Joey is the king of the mountain without doubt, he is a god worldwide in motorcycle circles, worked and maintained his own bikes, often into the small hours, smoking and drinking, turned up at the start likely de-hydrated and a bit of a hangover and blew away all the younger, fitter, healthier riders, and sometimes he won on a slower bike. Joey didn't fulfil the role of a corporate roll model. Genius
John has always been my favourite road racer, but you can never look past Joey. Joey is the GOAT..... Michael could challenge that 26 wins, Pete has a long way to go from 9 wins. Everyone always overlooks just how amazing Bruce Anstey was, sooooo smooth and fast.
They're all valid hero's and kings of the mountain. I guess not enough reference to Mike Hailwood for me in the video, he's definitely up there with them.
Can't wait to watch davey Todd for years to come, will be one of the greatest of all time if continuing to ride and improve at the rate the fella is true gent, loved watching him run wild at Armoy and southern 100
I agree with you, I watched and took photos of him at the tt and compared to other riders ( on the corners I photographed him) he was using more lean angle and aggressive lines than anyone else! That and having the weight to bully the bike gave him the edge on a superbike. Not so much on the 600, tended to break them! 😂 Good guy, sad loss.

The TT is definitely a bucket list item for me.. would've loved to have raced it back when I was racing.. but now I will be happy just to see it with my own eyes in person.
If not 2023, we'll see you in the hedges 2024 🙌
As a young man, I dreamed of racing the TT while practicing on the back-roads of Tennessee. Much to the chagrin of local law enforcement in three counties. WFO
Joey was the Man
John is for sure a legend, but Joey is king of the mountain.
I hope to get out there one year to watch it its on the bucket list for sure
Mine too
U gotta do it guarantee you won’t regret it but if u Dont make it that u will regret I can assure u there’s nothing else like it and I’m born and bred Manx for almost 60yrs
Make sure you do it sooner rather than later. A lot of the epic viewing spots are now becoming restricted areas. But you need to get over - I absolutely promise you that you will love it. That first bike flying past will blow your mind.
We'd love to see you here! Keep an eye out at our official travel partner, Duke, for some packages that make visiting dead easy, so all you have to do is enjoy the racing! www.duketravel.com/isle-of-man-tt/
Norton 15 31 is dead right about that 1st bike flying past you shakes you. Even John Mcguinness says that you don't realise the speed of them until u feel them pass u when yr watching trackside. There's nothing else like it.
More of this please!
This is far beyond the level of excitement MotoGP brings me watching it. Like it’s not even close…
The greatness and admiration they all have for each other gives me chills and brings a tear to the eye.
Everyone that crosses that start line is a hero to me.
This was absolutely fantastic. As a fan for nearly 30 years, I thank you for this.
It's an absolutely crazy race with absolutely crazy riders !
Even as I am a great race Fan, still don't know why they do that !
The island is one of the most magical places in the world, the TT is hard to describe but is breathtaking to see in person.
got to love the respect shown between all of them
First place or last place, all of you guys are men of men of men! 🍺💪🏽🇺🇸
Been riding for years gain experience and skills but these guys are way more than just humans and in another level. This is skills + courage 💪 huge salute brave warriors
Psalm 20:4
May god bless all the riders of TT 🙏
What a man John is, to say that Joey is still the king shows what kind of man he is ❤
I've listened to Joey Dunlop and John McPint, both speak as humble men but their actions shout. I think that's why we rate these guys so high.
There is something extraordinary about these riders, I remember seeing Joey at a Skerries 100 waiting in line in some field, to buy a cup of tea at some tent.
They are just disarmingly humble.
🇹🇹😌🖤🪶I love it.
Again, another awesome video. Thank you.
All riders racing are legends even before they start the race!!
Wow, These are awesome.
What a great video!
There is not any other sport in the world that has people willing to lay there life down to win or even compete and enjoy doing so it's just dedication like know other
Serious respect too all involved ❤
The greatest races on the planet. Nothing comes close to it.
Dean Harrison is a nice genuine guy I've met him a few times at Scarborough road racing events and always has time for a chap or a selfie top guy
King's or not , they are all heroes.
Joey is top dog though with John and Molly close behind. What hickey is doing at the moment is outstanding but my all time heroes are Micheal and Bruce Anstey. I have been privileged to watch all of them
Fantastic video. These are the best riders on the planet in my mind. No other Motorsport gives me goosebumps but the TT sure does.
The Isle of Man for riders,
In English terms,
It’s Gritty and the Dogs Bollocks,
Ride the course,
One of my best days 👍
Super,Labombastic,Fantastic,Školastic!!!👍👏🤘👃👂🦵💪🤝😍🏍️💓⛽🚦🏄🚣🪂🌠🐢🐳🐬🦞🐙💯👀🌍🙏🌹☀️🌜🎸😇🏝️🏖️🧠🫀🫁
LIVING. AND FEELING ALIVE. HERE IS ALL.
The sport where Legends are Born🙌🔥🔥🔥
cant wait to see this years race.......even the dude who comes in last place at this race is a friggen stud, the balls and nerves to do this race are unsurpassed, many many moto gp riders and champions wont even touch this race, that speaks volumes!
JOEY DUNLOP KING OF THE MOUNTAIN HIS STATUE SITS UP AT THE BUNGALOW WATCHING THE RIDERS TRY TO BEAT HIS RECORD. MAGICAL RACER GOD BLESS HIM. 3
Its a passion! Its the truest form of racing!
They are all legend's. 🤴 KING DUNLOP.
Great video again, thanks! Can‘t wait to be back! 😎 Legends, all of them riding there! 🤘
That reminds me: Still haven‘t finalized the 2022 video of our TT trip… 🫣
The greatest race ever. These are very rare breed of men to challenge the TT
Fair play John McGuinness ur very modest in fairness he had less team and help the riders have now in these days
Goosebumps ❤️🔥
Soy amante de las road races !! Sería posible que subtitularan en español sus próximas ediciones !?? Gracias de antemano
one day soon i hope i will be able to move from CANADA to the island and enjoy the rest of my life and watch the race every year after right beside all the rest of the fans
Can't wait for the rest of the series. I've never been to the TT but will one day.
You will love it. Go asap.
Michael Dunlop will match his uncles tally I reckon….then there will be two Kings of the Mountain.👍🇮🇲
Maybe. But remember there were loads more classes in Joeys' day. Nobody will try harder than MD though.
@@colinstewart1432 More classes now…..2023…..Two Supersport, Two SuperTwin , Superstock & Super bike ….6 races for solos….5 back in Joeys day….125 -250-600-superbike & Senior. 👍🇮🇲
@@ManxAndy Really? What about 400cc supersport? What about singles?
@@colinstewart1432 the 400 and singles were run in conjunction with the other classes, so the 400 class incorporated the 125 class at the rear of the field, and the singles incorporated the 250s if I remember correctly, so a rider had to chose between one or the other….you couldn’t ride a 400 and a 125….👍🇮🇲
@@ManxAndy That's true. Well done you I'd forgotten that. 👍
Joey is the King. His 26 wins are real, no electrics padding his record.
He was also a true humanitarian and an amazing mechanic.
There is no debate. All the riders are heroes, but the King is Joey. Full stop!
Fantastic episode, get it first on TT+
Compelling when you see “professional video and journalism “ such as this … to illustrate the worlds greatest motorsport event. Well done ! 👍👍
Brilliant
Outstanding!! I would have given a lot to have been able to run the TT course when I was racing.
Can't wait to watch davey Todd for years to come, will be one of the greatest of all time if continuing to ride and improve at the rate the fella is true gent, loved watching him run wild at Armoy and southern 100
Thanks so much. Very well done.
You see the yellow helmet and you know who it is 💛 RIP DUNLOPS!
It's Magic.
Great episode look forward to the next
I’m a big fan of John McGuiness but I think if he had lived, David Jeffries would’ve been right up there.
Thanks for another interesting video 🙏👍
