As a former runner I know this is hard. About 6 years ago in my mid 40s where I was running a 5K three times a week I had a goal to do a single 6 minute mile. Tried it a few dozen times but fell short with the best at 6 min and 28 seconds. I have since switched to inline skating as it's quite a bit easier on my aging knees. In that sport a marathon is doable for me in under 3 hours.
Yeah when I saw this video I was like meh he’s prolly going slow like a 12 minute pace and then he said he was trying to finish in under three and I was like DAMN never mind that is fast
Barring the pros almost everyone is happy to talk for at least the first half of the marathon. Which feels like the first 20 miles. Honestly the first 1/2 to 3/4 feels just like just another weekly long run, like you've been doing for months, except you're super hyped, well rested, and fed for it! You usually get about 20 miles of that "oh, we're killing this workout!" feeling before your body realizes what's happening and hates you.
This actually helps a lot, diverting the pain and exhaustion. Not a pro but I noticed when I run alone, 5km is already exhausting, but when I'm with someone I don't even realize I already ran 20+km
Most people run long distances at low efforts. My faster long distance runs will be at a tempo pace. I'm a trail ultra runner, haven't done a road race at all in years. Ironically, planning on running my first road 5k in probably a decade next week 🤷♀️
The running community as a whole is super supportive and very chill, I loved running my first marathon. Haven’t ran one in almost a year due to surgery but definitely look forward to doing it again.
Thank you for this. I used to be a big runner. I loved it. But fell into a deep depression and am still working to be a little better everyday. Ive gotten to the point where I’m finding the joy in my interests again and running being one of them. This definitely brought a smile to my face and made me want to run a little more. So thank you💛
Not sure if you will read this or not but, when I find myself in a slump my go to is running. I use that time to think about things going on in my life and what I can do to resolve those problems. I'd say most of the time I don't come up with a solution but I do feel better after going for a run. I guess one could say that running is a way for me to cope with things in my life. Maybe that will help you out some.

@@orang9134 The world record is still pretty close to that at, I believe, 2:01:4x. Though I don't think that many realize how incredible running even an hour slower than the world record is.
