  • New Jersey state congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman joined hosts Kasim Reed, Michael Nutter and Larry Platt to discuss her game-changing legislation (which she reintroduces every year to no avail) - The Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act. Larry introduced the congresswoman onto the show with a clip from an unlikely policy wonk who opines on the effects of making every bullet prohibitively expensive.
Chris Rock’s standup bit was providential, Watson Coleman says, not coincidental.
But to get any bills passed in Congress, there needs to be a degree of civility between the parties, Watson Coleman told our hosts, and these days D.C. is woefully short of that magic ingredient. “People don’t realize,” she continued, “just how significant congeniality is to getting important legislation done.”
On this episode of How To Really Run A City, our mayors mull over “ultimate retail politics,” and enlighten Larry on the vital role of a call time manager. “I’ve got no patience for politicians who don’t like [raising money],” Reed said. “It’s a manifestation of people believing in you.”
