Thanks for this Nick - when I’ve been looking at my “Mercedes Me“ account and it’s stating “Europe map updated” I had assumed that included mainland Europe, but on closer inspection (following your video ) I see it’s actually the UK, Iceland and the Faroe Islands!….. i’m going on a European road trip soon, so you’re video has been very helpful - as always, thank you!!
Update: USB-based updates for 4 sub-regions (~10GB in total) took 30-45 minutes in total, and did not "stick" on 98% for more 30 seconds. Awesome solution! On the other hand, letting the home region online update continue to completion (but no connectivity as my parking is underground) took 8 hours!!! I wonder if it was because it was "online update" or is it "home region" that caused it to take that long. Time to turn off "online updates"!! Apart from that, I am happy Nick took the time and effort to document the steps via video, because I didn't investigate much until I found the video as a youtube recommendation (of course, after watching Nick's other Mercedes videos). Thanks. Keep up the super informative work!
Hey bk, ah don’t worry online updates for Sat navs will usually take a week or so based on average driving. Computer processors are a lot faster than cars where they run at a low priority and also only work when the ignition / engine is on. Haha thanks! Glad you’re enjoying the videos!
I successfully downloaded the maps for Spain and Portugal. What I found when using the system, was it would not navigate across borders. I had to drive into Portugal before it would navigate to anywhere in Portugal. It normally on took a couple of minutes to settle then a new destination could be put in to it. We crossed the border 4 times, and it was the same on each occasion. Obviously it was quite stressful when first trying to Navigate into Portugal from Spain. Top tip, have a note of the rood you will be using to cross the border and the last place you will pass through before you cross.
Awesome video. I struggled to figure out if this feature even existed any more, let alone if it was out of date, but your video helped massively to navigate this convoluted non-obvious process.
Great video Nick, really useful. I didn't know this option existed, I thought it was all automatic. Thanks to your video I now realise that's only my home regioin.
Thanks for another informative video Nick - I’d assumed the auto map updates were for the whole of Europe and not just UK so thanks for explaining - nice 1 👍
Hi Nick , Just a quick note to all Mercedes owners. I got my 2022 GLS63 a week ago and the Air condition was giving out hot air on low temperatures. Had it checked by the service team and after three days of intense checking they finally found the fault was with one of the temperature sensors hidden in the overhead panel. They have now ordered a new sensor from Germany. I just wanted everyone to know ,so this could help you in case you experience this issue. ( knowing that a lot of chip shortages and technical problems are cropping up) .
Hey Nick.. Thanks for the videos. Been binge-watching them as I am in the process of getting a car. Quick question - I have seen the ability to show the MB Navigation in the Digital Instrument Cluster instead of the central touchscreen. But suppose I was using Apple CarPlay for navigation using Google Maps or Apple. Can I have the same pop up in the Digital Instrument Cluster as well ?
Thank you Asit! Glad you’re enjoying them! No sadly Apple and car manufacturers have not implemented Apple CarPlay to go across the entire dashboard yet. Depending on the model, it’ll either show “Apple CarPlay Active” so I’d put it on something else. Or it’ll show you a graphic symbol on the direction to take. Because it varies best to try on the test drive or something 👍🏼 Bring a USB / USB-C cable with you to try it 🤓
Hi Nick, just want to say a huge thanks for all you video's, however as I've just found out yesterday my A 250e coupe is no longer being made my ordered has been cancelled, SO back to drawing board to look for a new car, sadly it won't be a Mercedes, GOOD LUCK with all you do and THANKS, Take care 👍🏻
Hello Nick, I am going to France next month, and seeing your video thought I had it cracked. However, I have been stuck with the Mercedes Download Manager. You missed this part out on the video. I downloaded it but when I got to the bit "Launch download Manager" everything just stops. I phoned up Mercedes SW where I bought the car, explained the situation, however, no one seems to be able to fix ther issue. I was advised to contact Mercedes Customer Services, which I did 5 days ago, so far no reply, are you able to enlighten me at all. What am I doing wrong?? Thanks John
Again Nick superb video to help owners navigate their way through this update. Get it? Navigate? Anyway, my question is my wife has a 2017 b250 Canadian, and has the command option, does she have to have a MMe account to update this older command as well or no? Cheers
Hey Keith, thank you! Glad you’re enjoying them! Ah the previous version of COMAND needs to be updated by Mercedes-Benz themselves in their workshops. I presume that’s the same elsewhere for other countries etc
Another great and informative video as usual. Now we've updated sat nav ready for abroad how do we sort out our headlights with all the different types available now?
Glad you enjoyed the video! 🤓 Depends on your model, which model of Mercedes do you have and what year? And also do you know what headlights you have? 🤓
Dear nick another great video which are always very useful. I do have a different sort of question if you’re able to advise me, I wanted to know how to delete destinations from my sat nav, I have of course had a play around the the sat nav but not to sure how or where to delete destinations . I would be grateful if you could advise me. Kind regards paul
Thanks Paul glad you’ve enjoyed this one! Ah when you’re on the Navi screen under Previous Destinations, I’m sure there was a button next to it (like a menu button) that allowed you to save as favourite, save as home, save as work, or delete
Nick - as always very informative and helpful. I can’t believe that the Mercedes Command satnav requires such a IT tech palaver to simply update the satnav for say France or elsewhere in Europe. Just wondering - would it be quicker (and easier) to simply to click “Change Home Region” for a few days for the new region (eg France) to update the satnav?
Thanks Damian! Glad you enjoyed it! You could do, however the updates are designed to run at an extremely low priority in the background. It’s quite common for those updates to take weeks especially if the car is only on for less than an hour at a time each day as it will only update when the engine is on.
Thanks Nick for this video and all those previously. It has answered a question I have been trying to figure out for a while as I drive quite often in France. I still have a problem however that although I am now in France and have just updated the French maps in line with your instructions they still seem to be out of date. Is there any way to check the date of the map updates as the French maps to not appear to be updated as frequently as those done automatically for the U.K.
Thanks George! Ah when you’re on the website you can view the map and see if it’s up to date. It should show you the version number of the one installed. Think I remember seeing it on the Mercedes me app for some cars too. I don’t believe it shows you the date it was released, just the version number.
Like many others I think your videos and the information you share are simply the best. Very grateful indeed. Is there a way to save as a favourite within sat nav a location I have arrived at? I have a 2021 AMG CLA35 Premium plus shooting brake, MBUX? Thanks
@@npoleary Thank you Nick. After leaving my comment I watched your video about what3words. Can't believe I've never heard of that. Tried it this morning, pin point accuracy. You must save mercedes owners so much time. Thanks again.
I’m so glad I found your channel! I just got a C43 AMG and I’m trying to figure out all of these things! I’d REALLY like to see you do a video on the inside color lighting. I can’t figure out how to have it be shown ALL around the dash and doors. HELP! Thanks!
@@npoleary Hi Nick, thanks for replying! It’s a 2021. The colors only show up on around the middle (where the ac buttons are) and on the window up/down switches. I WANT the colors ALL OVER THE PLACE! 😂😂😂 🚗💨💨💨
Ah I would always tread very carefully when importing and exporting cars. I remember when I went to buy an Apple Watch Cellular in the USA and almost got caught out. Basically and to simplify it the best I can, phones are one of the only devices out there that can “roam” on other networks in countries far from home. However lots of other devices and cars cannot, they are only ever designed to work in the country that they were designed for. This is due to the very complex nature of signal frequencies in each country. Some for example may work in UK and Europe but go any further round the world and you may find it won’t work at all. Really sorry as I’ve never imported / exported a car the only thing I can suggest is that you contact Mercedes and see if they can offer any support on it to see if anything can be done. Just to add to this, Europe imports I think should be fine but for others check first.
I just stumbled across this video and glad I did, thanks @Nick! I can't get my head around the OTA for home region. I've had my 23 c class for 6 months and not a single home region map update has taken place. Have I not set something in connection settings or other in order for OTA updates to work? For now I will resort to manually updating home region too, frustrating!
Ah awesome thank you! Glad you’re enjoying them, I’ll keep them coming! As long as Mercedes me is linked to your car and all of the services are activated then it should work automatically. If you don’t think something’s right though, just get in touch with Mercedes. I’m sure they’ll be able to help!
Thank for the video... however although I have had my A Class for nearly a year, I'm still awaiting my missing chip. No updates for me and no Mercedes me app, I'm missing out on a lot of functionality but I guess I'm not the only one. My local dealer has not kept me updated about this even though they said they will. I find the service received so far from Mercedes lacking what I expected from a premium brand.
Hey Robert, sadly there is still an ongoing chip shortage. It doesn’t just affect Mercedes as it affects the whole world and all manufacturers. I’m sure as soon as they hear anything then they will be in touch and let you know.
I've got an EQE for almost a year now, and none of my maps update automatically (Benelux, I live in Belgium). You spoke of the "Home Region" that needs to be registered. Is this something that happens automatically or is this something that needs to be done by the garage on delivery of the new car? They updated the maps a couple of times in the garage when the car was in for some servicing, but I would like it to happen automatically... Thanks! BTW, I love your videos!
Thank you glad you’re enjoying the videos! You can set the home region via the Mercedes me portal on the website but it would be set automatically. I’ve heard just like all updates from any device these days, they come out in batches so might not update straightaway. If you don’t think it’s working chat with Mercedes and they can look at it in their workshops.
Hi Nick, thank you for your video. navigation is not available showing on my e class dash for some reason. I found your channel and videos tried to do an update as you instructed. I am based in Ireland, I dont see the online map update service on my Mercedes Me connect services page, its just showing 'data release for independent service providers'.
It’ll depend if you have SD Card based Navigation or COMAND. Sounds like you might have the SD one, have you looked in the compartment with the USB Ports? I’m also presuming it’s the same in the UK, specs like this vary massively round the world and it might be a completely different process in Ireland…have you got in touch with your local Mercedes? They’ll be able to point you in the right direction 👍🏼
@@npoleary Good morning Nick, I just checked the compartment as you suggested, found the SD card slot and apparently the SD card was pushed out for some reason, inserted it back in and now problem solved. I did contact the garage MSL where I bought it, all they could suggest was for me to book the car in for diagnosis and charging me for 379 euro. Thank you very much for spending your time to reply to and your advice! You are doing great work.
FYI. On my EQC '22 I had to get an USB2.0 drive and this had to be formatted as NTFS for the offline map update to work. Got update errors with USB2.0 formatted as FAT32 or an USB3.0 drive with either format.
Hi Nick, Appreciate your detailed videos. However can you point me to one on updating the nav maps if not on online services - or is it only resolved by purchasing a new SD card? Many thanks
Hello and thanks for the videos and the effort you put into this. Do you need to have purchased the Online Map Update at MB Store to perform this in an older car (A160, W177 late 2018) ?
Hey thank you! I would double check with Mercedes for that one, an A160 was the previous model but you also mentioned W177 so I’m not sure. Is your multimedia system a touchscreen or do you have a wheel in the middle of the car to use it?
It is a W177 with the two 7'' screens (multimedia is touch). MB Greece was importing W177 A160 (same engine as A180 but with 109Hp) until the facelift. Now its only A200. Anyway, I bought the Online Map Update, Live Traffic & Navigation Services. It was quite a few money. The thing is that Live Traffic does not seem to work, neither the weather can be retrieved. I love the car but I am so puzzled with these issues. @@npoleary
Hey Matt, this sounds like it could be either the computer or the memory stick. Some computers don’t allow programs to write to memory sticks to help prevent the spread of viruses etc so it could be a firewall or something? For the memory stick, just make sure it’s formatted correctly 🤓
Thanks Nick for the instructions. I was updating the map on a 2020 A200 UK model. It was successful after some trials and errors. I will list them here for others awareness. 1. When I click login from the "download manager", the web-link does not exist. But I will be in the logged-in status if I launch the "manager" from the button on the portal. 2. When downloading the map, the "manager" showed errors "no memory medium found", "memory medium not writable", etc. I tried some different usb-sticks and memory cards. But mostly it will work after I reformat the usb-stick/memory card as ExFat format as required. And the downloading process would automatically start. 3. When the downloading/writing processes reach 100%, I still need to wait a couple of minutes for the "download successful" message to pop up. 4. When installing the map in the car, the usb-c adaptor with various ports (usb, hdmi, micro-sd, etc) didn't work and cannot be recognised by the car. But the one with only usb-c to usb ports worked.
@@bluf1986 I haven't tried, but in my understanding the usb-c stick should be okay by itself as there is even less complexity in the connection. Is there any pop-up message on the vehicle multimedia screen?
@@xiaozhanyang4053 i solved it, it was not working with USB-C stick. I had to buy dongle USB-A 3.1 (Mac supported) to USB-C, and then it worked with my old USB-A stick. Formated on exFAT, but not quick format. After 3 days i finally updated my sat nav in GLB 😀
Hi Nick, great video. Do you have one that shows how to activate the navigation package via MB Me app store. This is for a GLA or GLB. I understand it's paid feature, does it require a subscription after activation? Tnx
Thank you! Navigation is standard in the UK, however if you’re based elsewhere you’ll have to ask Mercedes. Really sorry I’ve not seen one without it so not sure how that would work.
I’m very disappointed with the map updates. Roads in my area were closed off at one end 18 months ago, and even with the March 2022 update, it still doesn’t know about closures - and there doesn’t seem to be any way to feed this info back to MB. Google / Apple maps updated within a week of the changes and have the ability to feed back about map errors / changes. When my free map updates run out I really don’t think it is worth paying for updates.
Hey Dave, ah Mercedes-Benz don’t have their own mapping solution so they acquire their data from Here WeGo: wego.here.com Reporting is done via this link: mobile.here.com/about/report?x=ep
Hi Nick, great tutorial. I want to add France map, but when I go to add manually, I still have region 1, which I have already updated and successfully installed on my car. How Can I remove this now from the "selected" regions? I noticed region 1 (UK) has not changed to green?
Hi Nick please can you do a video on how high beam assist works in New Mercedes. I have a 2022 CLA 250. I need to make sure I'm not binding other drivers! Thanks!
You dont get it Nick. We all want to see how we can upgrade our maps without spending 450 euro at Mercedes. There is no need to tell us to go to a Mercedes dealer. We can think ourselfs. Its harder to find your video on YT than to find a MB dealer. smh
Sadly I don’t know anyway to upgrade maps other than the official way. There might be 3rd party garages out there that offer services like that but you’ll have to ask around. This video is just a tutorial on how to do it via the official method. Still relevant today, I did it the other day on my own car.
Hi Nick, thanks for awesome videos!!! For the satnav map update - have you ever encountered the error on the NTG 6 (in W213) after update that states: "Map data does not match with your system. Please insert a medium containing the corresponding map data" Also, "Traffic Sign Assist Inoperative" message pops out in the instrument cluster display thanks!
Thanks Jonel! No worries! Glad you enjoy them! No I haven’t, I haven’t tried updating maps since I made this video but as it’s MBUX it should be the same Have you spoken with Mercedes? 🤓
@@npoleary I got in contact with a local dealer but the car is from German market so it could be some regional issue. I had the German maps updated automatically and wanted to update the other ones and with few was ok, and when I have downloaded and updated some more, it stopped to be functional, as well as the traffic sign assist. Just found this solution which definitely requires service at the dealer Cause Navigation database was not successfully activated Remedy Perform the proposed measure in order to remedy the complaint: • Ensure the MBUX multimedia system (A26/17) software is up-to-date (E870.9 or newer) • Perform a user data reset ("Settings" -> "System" -> "Reset" in the MBUX display). Check functionality. If the com- plaint remains then continue with next steps • Open the Dealer menu by pressing and holding down the "Home" and "Radio/Media" buttons simultaneously for ap- proximately 8 seconds • When in the Dealer menu, select "Navigation" - Then select "Delete MapData" • Close the Dealer menu and reinstall the currently available NTG6 map data version from Download Manager CO- MAND/Hard-Disk navigation via USB • Perform SCN coding of the MBUX multimedia system (A26/17) • Check navigation functionality
Hi Nick, thank you for the tutorial video. I have one peculiar problem here. I bought my car in Belgium, but UK version though (W177). I have Mercedes me Belgium with the EU maps. Problem is, I brought my car to Malaysia but I couldn't change the region to any of Asia region even though I still subscript to the maps and traffics update. Hope you could shed some lights on how to update or change my maps to those of Malaysia. TIA!

@@npoleary Thanks. Done that earlier to no avail. Local dealer informed that it linked to regional coding that is illegal to tampered with. I think I could unsubscribe the map service then since I've activated/purchased the android apps and it works, but I have to connect my mobile with cable all time. Wonder if there is solution to connect it via bluetooth. Thanks again.
Hi Nick. I bought a new GLE Coupe in January and really appreciate your informative videos. I've followed your clear instructions in this one and all went OK until I connect to the USB port in the car, at which point I get no prompt to update the maps. Home region is UK but I want to update spain, France, Germany and Scandinavia as we're planning a trip from Gibraltar where we live to Sweden. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Steve
Hey Steve, thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos! Couple of things you could try, there is a manual way to launch it. With your USB stick plugged in, on your centre screen press HOME SETTINGS SYSTEMS SOFTWARE UPDATE And try in there. If this doesn’t work I’d double check your USB stick is formatted correctly. MBUX only recognises FAT32, exFAT, NTFS formatted memory sticks.
Top man👍. Great video as always. I'm just going on a long EU trip. So I'll need to download a few countrie(France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia). I assume it doesn't matter which USB port I'm using for this?...and also what is the formatting of the pendrive is relevant?
Hey MrWestcliffe, thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! No any USB / USB-C port in the front will do 🤓 Mercedes multimedia systems accept FAT32, exFAT & NTFS. I used exFAT for this video 👍🏼

No worries! Really not sure sorry! I’d suggest chatting to Mercedes, the maps on cars are pretty-installed for the country they were intended for. If you have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on the car, use that for now as that may help!
Really sorry I wouldn’t know for other countries, you’ll have to ask Mercedes! I’ve not experienced a Mercedes model in France so not sure what they offer in terms of spec etc
Sadly it’s just on models with the latest generation multimedia system from what I’ve seen. Best thing to do is to use Apple CarPlay and use Google Maps which has it built in.
Hi! I would go careful importing or exporting cars that far away as modern cars can’t roam like phones can on different networks. You could try it, but it probably will only ever have USA maps. Only thing I can suggest is to chat to Mercedes staff at a dealer or something, hopefully they can offer a solution!
Really sorry not sure on that one, you’ll have to ask someone who works at Mercedes. They’ll be able to advise on the car and how it works elsewhere. Here in the UK they have OTA updates so not sure what system they have in place.
Hi Nick, I bought my Mercedes imported into Ireland from Japan & I'm curious if I can update my sat navigation as indicated in your video for Europe please ? Or I need to contact MB store to do it for me please? Thank you Montana
Oh I would go very careful about importing cars, the mobile cellular connections in makes and models of cars cannot roam like a mobile phone on other networks in other countries. Just heard it from people who have done the same thing with cars in other countries. Best to chat to Mercedes about that one and see if anything can be done.
Hi mate, I have just tried to do this but I cannot seem to find the 'Online Map Update' tab. I had a notification saying that 'Due to the hardware fitted at factory, the online map update feature is unavailable.' I was just wondering if you might be able to shed some light on this. I have a 2018 W213 E-Class. TIA
It depends on the equipment in the car Sadly I only started my channel covering Mercedes in 2020 so have limited videos and on cars before that. But if I remember it depends if it has Garmin Map Pilot (navigation with an SD card) or if it has COMAND Online which is what this video is for. Chat with Mercedes staff at a dealer and they’ll be able to advise and let you know what to do!
Hey Nick! I’ve been trying this for ages, and that section to download/choose maps simply doesn’t appear on my dashboard. Can you still see it on yours ? I know I’ve seen it before, but I had to order a usb-c stick, and in the meantime it was gone. I’ve been trying everyday now 🤦♂️
Hey! Sorry I’m away in the USA at the moment so can’t easily look at mine although going on the website on my phone still shows it. share.icloud.com/photos/0f5nMIr6oufxatY5rckol4Edg It might best just to chat to Mercedes on that one if you’re missing something. I’d suggest chatting with Mercedes me Support and if that fails, try a Mercedes dealer 🤓
Hi Nick. I need help. I contacted mercedes me help in Slovakia but no help yet. I want to update my maps like you are showing in this video BUT when I open the map section and when I point my mouse on any region, it doesn’t light up or show map info for that particular country. It does not function at all. I have tried it on several PC even with the latest windows installed and chrome browser. Please help. I have active and paid subscription for mercedes me.
Really sorry I’m not sure what it’s like for other countries. I did just have a look again and it functions exactly the same way as this video. My only recommendation is to chat to someone who works at Mercedes. Have you chatted to a dealer also?
Hi! My Mercedes-Benz Connect subscription has expired but I still have permanent Hard-disc navigation. Any idea how I can get manual map update? I don't see the option to update on the website. Thanks! BTW I love your videos, Nick!
Hey! Thank you glad you love the videos! It depends on the year of car, Mercedes introduced map updates through Mercedes me for some cars after 2016 where it became kind of mainstream in 2018 and 2019 for most models (renewed on the Mercedes me store) So it kind of depends, I can try and help what’s your model of car and year? It does vary round the world so I know a few bits for Mercedes in the UK but it’ll be different everywhere else so may need to chat to them directly.
@@npoleary I drive 2020 CLA 250e. I was able to update my maps while I had Mercedes-Benz Connect subscription active but it's seems strange to me that I am not able to update hard-disc nav after buying it.
If you’re based in the UK, map updates happen automatically as long as you have a valid subscription to Mercedes me. Although you can update them manually on the website or update other countries too. If you having issues just get in touch with Mercedes me support from the app who will be able to help 🤓 Usually in Menu, Help, Contact Support 👍🏼
Dear nick I have a question for you which you might be able to answer. I picked up my Second hand car Mercedes 2020 a few months ago but noticed rust on all four wheel hubs. All four wheels are not damaged in anyway but it’s the rust that really takes the look away from the wheels. I decided to take my car to my local dealership and I was told that even though the car is only 2yrs old this problem was not covered by a Mercedes 3yr warranty. The dealer at the time showed me a 2021 plate with exactly the same issue. Nick i know this is not your every day kind of question but if there is any advice you could give me I would be so grateful. At present I have visited local wheel repair garages but unfortunately not able to assist in this rust problem on the wheel hubs. Kind regards paul
Hey Paul, really sorry I’ve not worked on them from a technical point of view so don’t know why that would be happening. Have you asked your local Mercedes? I’m sure a technician would be the best one to ask! I have seen that it can happen to virtually any car if you live near the sea because of the salt air but other than that I would just probably seek advice from a technician and see what they say
Hi nick thank you for the reply, Maybe I will try my local Mercedes dealership again just to see if they can assist in any way. I’m not close to the sea so salt air wouldn’t be an issue. Nick it’s always nice chatting to you and I really appreciate your feedback. Kind regards paul
Hi, Do you know if I can fix this message : Due to the hardware installed at the factory, the following services are not available for your vehicle : Parking for navigation Weather map Weather forecast Local search Car-to-X Communication Online map update So basically, I can purchase the service but I won't be able to use any of it's benefits... That's a great deal froms Mercedes...
Hi Andrei, which model of Mercedes do you have and what year? This sounds like you’ll just have Live Traffic and if so the price should be adjusted for your car when your signed in. If you get stuck, contact Mercedes me support and they can let you know 🤓
Hey Murray, thanks for the suggestion! I wasn’t planning on doing a video just on that but it’ll only work if your seat is quite far forward. For me sadly due to my seat position it won’t work where I sit as I’m quite tall.
Oh really? I’ve done the Sat nav update plenty of times. I’ve researched the steps in the manual and checked with the staff at my local dealer before making this video so it is all correct. And I’ve done it on my own car too. Have you tried a multimedia system reset? If that doesn’t work I’d suggest getting in touch with them. This update shouldn’t touch anything else? It’s just updating the maps.
Depends on the car and year back when I made this video some were underneath the screen next the volume control whereas some were in the centre arm rest
I need to keep the engine running for updating these maps once car is turned off it doesn't resume, always need to run the car on standby for a few hours
Map updates in cars are always slightly slower than they would be on a home pc or a phone doing updates because the processors in cars aren’t as fast. Map updates used to be done at servicing every year years ago but now they’re updated over the air. It’s normal for an update to take a few weeks, just depends how much the car is on and being used etc.
Thank you. I have a Mac, I followed your instruction but I get stuck with the download manager saying "storage medium not found". I tried different kinds of formats including NTFS and ex-FAT. Any suggestion?
Hey roberto, I did have a little road block when I updated mine. Basically Macs don’t allow allow 3rd party apps to write data to a memory stick. Once the Mercedes Download Manager has opened, head over to the Apple Logo, System Preferences, Security & Privacy. In there at the bottom you can allow this program to write data to the memory stick and give it access.
I have a Mercedes-Benz GLB that has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto License but it doesn't have sat nav license. And, Mercedes Me Connect is not working in my country because of the IMEI issues of my car (i can use some online Mercedes ME services that works on web). If i do this or similar thing like buying navigation license online, will i be able to activate sat nav license?
Really sorry this varys round the world! Best thing to do is chat to Mercedes. Satellite Navigation is included here as standard so I wouldn’t know how it works elsewhere
Hi Nick Is it possible to disable this on an A classs 250E. A few times I have parked the car, gone indoors, and come back to find the tailgate open. Tonight I parked the car and went into restaurant across the street. Before entering restaurant, I turned to verify the car was ok - it was. When I came out, the tailgate was open. The problem is if you put the key in a pocket and sit down so something presses on the tailgate button for more than 2 seconds, then the tailgate opens. MB keys are so good that the signal seems to go through brick walls and on for about 30 - 40 metres. The remote open is a nice feature, and on most other cars you have to press the button twice in succession for it to work - I think the MB feature is a security issue and want to disable it.
Hey Paul, really sorry I’m not sure what to suggest here. The buttons are always live on the key so there is no way to turn them off. I’ve done it myself once before but that was because I had a pocket full of things (more than I would normally carry)
Hi, I have an E200 Estate 2021, sadly it came without the ME function due to the chip shortage and I’m waiting for my dealer to call me to get this added, however, I don’t think it will be anytime soon. Is there another way to update the Sat Nav? Without the ME Services…
Hey Leandro, yes sadly I have heard of this happening as the chip shortage is still ongoing. If you get in touch with them, they may be able to update the maps manually in their workshops although I don’t know for certain.
Should be updating for the country you are in, automatically, directly in car. Too much clutter, too complicated for an average user. My mother asked me to do so. We were sure the car has automatic map updates in-car, but when I decided to travel 600 km away via a new built highway I discovered the map is totally old. What a joke to do this via PC, usb dongles and so much hassle.
Hey K Pat, it does automatically update for the country your in 🤓 this is correct for the UK anyway. However this may be different elsewhere in other countries, sorry hard to tell in RUclips comments where everyone is based!
@@npoleary Hi Nick. It didn't update in Poland since 1.5 year. All other network-connected services work. I am also logged-in in car with my Mercedes Me account. The last version of map which I checked is 2021 V15.0 and with your technique I am downloading a map of 2022 V17.0
I just bought a brand new GLB, my sat nav was showing fuel prices as I approached the petrol stations. But it’s suddenly disappeared and just has a + icon next to them. I can’t find a way of turning that back on. Any ideas? Also trying to connect to the weather app says no connection and Mercedes me app ( in the car ) no connection but ok on my mobile. Not sure if they are all linked to it not showing fuel prices
Hey Graeme, I haven’t seen the fuel station prices on any system for at least a couple of years, Mercedes-Benz cars had it when I first started producing videos on my channel but haven’t seen it since. I thought it was discontinued or something. I’d probably suggest contacting your local Mercedes just to check your account and make sure terms of use are accepted etc. They’ll be more than happy to help!
Hey Bryan, I believe that car sat nav’s only usually come with certain parts of the world installed for where it’s going to be registered. For example cars here in the UK only have Europe and that’s it. If you do take your car temporarily elsewhere the cheapest and most cost effective is go the free route and use Smartphone Integration (long as you have it on your car) like Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Not sure if you can get other maps installed but I guess there must be a way if you were importing / exporting etc. Your local Mercedes should be able to point you in the right direction if that’s the case. Hope that helps!
@@npoleary okay I appreciate it. Yes. I have been using Apple CarPlay for my navigation. Have reached out to Mercedes-Benz dealerships in Germany, but I don’t speak German well and they don’t speak English well. I’ll make an appointment and see. Free is better though.
Ah if that’s a new B-Class, in the UK maps are updated automatically for the country you live in as long as you have the car linked to your Mercedes me account. They’re usually free of charge for the first 3 years from the registration date of the car
Hi Nick, my Start/Stop function is not working. My model is B200. It's just a yellow A within a circle-like arrow with a strikethrough slash under ECO mode. It could work when the symbol was green. But recently it just appears yellow. Could you help me with this? Thank you
This can happen for a number of reasons for example if you’ve only done short journeys, it’s really cold or the climate control is working to keep you at the temp you set. There can be other scenarios where the battery itself is not operating at full capacity. If it doesn’t do it after your next long journey, get in touch with your local Mercedes and they might be able to help! 🤓
Hey man, I recently bought c180d 2017.. it has no android auto and I have no option to update online maps like you do in the video. Dealer says updating map would cost around 250eur... This feels like Ive been played. I cant update on my own and I have to pay that much and on top need to pay another 60eur for Traffic service lol... do you know something I dont? can I somehow install at least android auto or what are my options beside paying another 300eur for already expensive car
Hey, sadly only started my RUclips Channel in 2020 so don’t have a lot of coverage on cars prior to that but I’m sure Mercedes added CarPlay support in 2019 for the C-Class. So any model prior to that sadly won’t work. If you’ve spoken to your dealer I would naturally assume they’re right, I often get advice and answers to my questions from my local one, they are pretty helpful! Sat Nav updates depend on what you have in the car. If you have Garmin Map Pilot (the SD card) I’ve heard you have need to visit a Mercedes dealership to update it and possibly upgrade the card.
I have downloaded maps from selected countries in the EU from my ME account online on a data USB. It went according to plan. But when I put it in the car's c-usb, a pop-up window should appear, from which I can then continue the process. But it just doesn't happen. The window does not come.🤔 Can you help? In advance thank you. E300 de faceliftet
Best thing to do is double check the memory stick is formatted correctly although I seem to recall the program can do that for you. Failing that you can potentially start it manually. If it’s the same as my car, press: HOME SETTINGS SYSTEM Software updates are near the bottom 👍🏼
No download manager is a program on your PC / Laptop. Just installed like other programs. And yes Mercedes me (every part of it) is a chargeable service. There are couple of free things like SOS / Breakdown Cover but everything else is called a Digital Extra. You can check it all out on the Mercedes me store: shop.mercedes-benz.com/en-gb/connect/ ruclips.net/video/if15_Gj4ODM/видео.htmlsi=BzNv1mYPJ7gECDo3
I have w205 2019 with ntg 5.5 and digital instrument cluster. When I scroll in window where are rpm's, fuel consumption etc. I don't have navigation map. How to "unlock" it?
Hey Robert, sadly it’s not on every car due to the processing power needed. If you ask your local dealership, they might be able to double check everything’s working as it should be. I have seen a couple of cars that I’ve reviewed before that didn’t have that so assumed it was something to do with COMAND or something.
My car cannot get signed up with Mercedes connect me and my vin number is said to be invalid. The car is imported back from korea to Germany 😅 how can i add European maps
Hey masoud, honestly the best thing t9 do is speak with your local Mercedes to see if anything can be done. Cars are only designed for the countries that they’re made in, cellular connections and their frequencies vary from country to country so if a car is exported, Mercedes me may never work there.
Hey Andrew, you can update the maps like this for models that have COMAND and MBUX. Apple Watch won’t link in that way to a car but it does have Apple Maps notifications built into it so it can notify you of a turn etc when driving if you have it enabled 🤓

Hi Nick, I am trying to update my maps but I am stuck with an error message "the service is down for technical reasons" once I click on map update after clicking manage services. This has been showing for a week now and really frustrating as iv paid for 12 months map updates. PLEASE HELP!!
Hey Assim, best to speak with Mercedes, I’m guessing as it’s Mercedes me related might be worth speaking with Mercedes me Support from the app under the help section. Really sorry I haven’t used this since I produced the video, they might be doing technical improvements or something.
Hi Nick, I’m in NL (region BENELUX) and updated GER, FRA and AUT for an upcoming trip, but now my navigation does not work anymore…? It says “The map data does not match with your system. Please insert a medium containing the corresponding map data.” When I go to MercedesMe online map update it shows that I should have alle these maps updated… I drive 2021 CLA 250e with MBUX. Any thought?
Managed to solve this issue btw. I updated another country regio (Poland et al.). After that update everything is fine again..? Maybe there was an unreported issue during the first install, but all is well now! Thnx for your very informative videos.
This is a bit misleading for me, it sounded like UK map updates are free. When I look at my mercedes me page, I have to order 1 year or 3 year subscription to access online map update
Hey Stewart, map updates are free of charge for a set time for the first 1, 2 or years depending on the model and where you’re based round the world. Sadly it varies. In the UK, it’s free of charge for the first 3 years from registration and chargeable after 🤓
Not sure on that one, specs vary round the world. Sat nav was standard on the A-Class in the UK so you might have seek advice from Mercedes. Hope that helps!
Hello. I live in North Macedonia. I have a Mercedes E class (E 220) 2017 year of production, 194 hp, which I bought from Italy. I can't register from my country on "Mercedes me". Please help. Thank you.
Hey ZitoKidsStory, sadly I wouldn’t know how it works if a car has been exported. Cars are only designed for the country that they were made for so it’s highly likely Mercedes me will not work when taken outside of it’s home country. Only thing I can suggest is get in touch with Mercedes to see if they can offer any solutions.
@@npoleary I'm Ljupce and thank you very much for seeing my problem. It is a problem of many Mercedes owners, especially in Europe, the Balkans. Please, since you have contacts with Mercedes, we will try to solve this problem for you. Thank you.
I think so, not too sure to be honest as I’ve only seen Europe Maps. However I’m sure that Mercedes in those countries have Sat Nav with maps so it might only be installed locally etc
@@npoleary they do have North American and European maps, but unfortunately folks in the Caribbean and Africa have to rely on Google, Waze and Apple Maps using CarPlay. My question was really designed to highlight this apparent inequity because it’s time to take care of this apparent discriminatory issue. My wish is for you to bring this to Mercedes’ attention. Looking forward to a speedy resolution, thanks.
Really sorry Ramsay, I don’t have a contact at Mercedes in Germany. They do have a feedback section on the Mercedes website but that is for the UK (it’s under their Contact Us section) If you’re based in a country that doesn’t have Sat Nav built in, you might be able to get get in touch with your local Mercedes dealership and they might be able to feedback that way?
Attention MacOS users! 😀
You may need to allow "Access to open apps from unidentified developers" via System Preferences like I did.
Once opened, go to the Apple Logo (top left) of you Mac, System Preferences, Security & Privacy & Allow at the bottom.
Message me below if you get stuck ⬇
thanks for that tip !!
No worries 😉
I did it and I also allowed "Full disk access" but still "storage medium not found".
Have you tried a different memory stick just out of curiosity? It could be the size of the stick
@@npoleary So far I tried a 32GB like you. I'll try other sizes. Thank you.
Just bought my very first Mercedes ever. Thankfully, I found your many great and informative tutorials. Thank you so much from Denmark, Tina
Ah very nice! Thank you! 🙏🙏
Ah awesome Peter! No worries!
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Perfect! My car was originally registered in France and I live in Portugal 🇵🇹. This solves everything
Thank you, Nick, I've learnt more from you about my car than all the other sources put together. Keep it up! 🙂
Awesome thank you! 🤓👍🏼
Wow it worked! Someone from Mercedes in London said I couldn't do it without buying the Navigation package.
Awesome video. I struggled to figure out if this feature even existed any more, let alone if it was out of date, but your video helped massively to navigate this convoluted non-obvious process.
Amazing thank you! I wish they told us this when buying the car.
Thanks very much for creating such a nice video and explained everything that we needed to know on how to update the map!
Awh thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Really useful video Nick! Its almost like you knew that I will be making a trip to Italy in my Mercedes next week 😅

Thanks for another informative video Nick - I’d assumed the auto map updates were for the whole of Europe and not just UK so thanks for explaining - nice 1 👍
Thanks Mark! 🤓👍🏼
Thanks Nick, that is a very handy tip…. I’m going to do the same thing with my Mercedes today
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! 🤓
Hi Nick ,
Just a quick note to all Mercedes owners.
Hey Bharani, thanks for sharing!
Haven’t heard of this happening but good to know!
Hi Nick, best vlog as always. Thank you so much 🙏

Ah that’s good! No worries! 👍🏼
Thanks Nick....a fantastic tutorial....my maps out of date.... 😘😘

Because it varies best to try on the test drive or something 👍🏼
Bring a USB / USB-C cable with you to try it 🤓
Hi Nick, just want to say a huge thanks for all you video's, however as I've just found out yesterday my A 250e coupe is no longer being made my ordered has been cancelled, SO back to drawing board to look for a new car, sadly it won't be a Mercedes, GOOD LUCK with all you do and THANKS, Take care 👍🏻
Thank you glad you enjoy the videos! I’ll keep em coming!
Good luck in the car search! 🤓
Hopefully you’ll find something soon
Depends on your model, which model of Mercedes do you have and what year? And also do you know what headlights you have? 🤓
@@npoleary sorted thank you managed to find a video to explain
Dear nick another great video which are always very useful.
I do have a different sort of question if you’re able to advise me, I wanted to know how to delete destinations from my sat nav, I have of course had a play around the the sat nav but not to sure how or where to delete destinations .
I would be grateful if you could advise me.
Kind regards paul
Sorry forgot to add my car 2020 A35 🙄
Thanks Paul glad you’ve enjoyed this one!
Ah when you’re on the Navi screen under Previous Destinations, I’m sure there was a button next to it (like a menu button) that allowed you to save as favourite, save as home, save as work, or delete
@@npoleary thank you 😊
Excellent , thank you.
Thanks
Thank you Gareth! Yes absolutely, just hold your finger on the screen on the centre (when on the map) and you can save it from there
@@npoleary Thank you Nick. After leaving my comment I watched your video about what3words. Can't believe I've never heard of that. Tried it this morning, pin point accuracy. You must save mercedes owners so much time. Thanks again.

It should just be on the main multimedia system where you adjust the colours
What year is your C 43? 🤓
@@npoleary Hi Nick, thanks for replying! It’s a 2021. The colors only show up on around the middle (where the ac buttons are) and on the window up/down switches. I WANT the colors ALL OVER THE PLACE! 😂😂😂

Haha I know the colours are so cool!
Thanks for your response. I am 6ft tall so that might be the problem as it works for my wife who is shorter. Thanks again
Thank you so much, was wondering if you could change your home region anywhere as my car is imported 🙏🏻
Thanks again for usefull video :)
No worries! Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! 🤓
I want to update it for Morocco, is there a way to do that?
Hey Othman, really sorry I wouldn’t know as I’ve only tried it on a UK car. But if you chat to Mercedes-Benz they should be able to let you know!
Hey Jason, no worries! And thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos!
What year is your E-Class?
@@npoleary Hi Nick, thank you for your reply. I have a 2019 E220D
Ah awesome! Glad you got it working!
FYI. On my EQC '22 I had to get an USB2.0 drive and this had to be formatted as NTFS for the offline map update to work. Got update errors with USB2.0 formatted as FAT32 or an USB3.0 drive with either format.

@@ejaigom I don't have a MAC so no problem.. exFAT could be an option.
Hi Nick, Appreciate your detailed videos. However can you point me to one on updating the nav maps if not on online services - or is it only resolved by purchasing a new SD card? Many thanks
If it’s not a model with Online Map Updates, you just purchase a new SD card from Mercedes 👍🏼
@@npoleary
Thankyou 👍👍👍👍❤️
Hi Nick! Any tips on how to get around the "Access Denied" message when trying to download the updated map?
Hey Matt, this sounds like it could be either the computer or the memory stick. Some computers don’t allow programs to write to memory sticks to help prevent the spread of viruses etc so it could be a firewall or something?
For the memory stick, just make sure it’s formatted correctly 🤓
@@npoleary thanks! I will try that!
That’s alright!
Ah yes USB hubs don’t work on Mercedes I remember reading that somewhere, has to be a direct connection.
Glad you got it going though!

@npoleary thanks for the reply. Does the navigation in UK require additional monthly or annual subscription to work? How do you update the maps?
Maps are updated automatically over the air
Free for 3 years and same goes for live traffic 🤓
I’m very disappointed with the map updates. Roads in my area were closed off at one end 18 months ago, and even with the March 2022 update, it still doesn’t know about closures - and there doesn’t seem to be any way to feed this info back to MB.
Google / Apple maps updated within a week of the changes and have the ability to feed back about map errors / changes.
When my free map updates run out I really don’t think it is worth paying for updates.
Hey Dave, ah Mercedes-Benz don’t have their own mapping solution so they acquire their data from Here WeGo:
wego.here.com
Reporting is done via this link: mobile.here.com/about/report?x=ep
Hi Nick, great tutorial. I want to add France map, but when I go to add manually, I still have region 1, which I have already updated and successfully installed on my car. How Can I remove this now from the "selected" regions? I noticed region 1 (UK) has not changed to green?
Thank you! You should just be able to go in and select the ones you want to download and it’ll say what version is on the car
Is it better picture quality from your Apple Watch for maps or your Mercedes Benz sat nav nick Andrew hopes you have a lovely evening take care Andrew
Hey Nick, great video. Does the USB needs to stay connected in order for these updates to be available 24/7? I removed it and I got an error.
Thank you! Once the update has finished and the system has restarted you can remove it
@@npoleary that's right, it went away after a while. Thank you!
Hi Nick please can you do a video on how high beam assist works in New Mercedes. I have a 2022 CLA 250. I need to make sure I'm not binding other drivers! Thanks!
Produced a video on this the other week 🤓

Got you covered already! 👀
For the satnav map update - have you ever encountered the error on the NTG 6 (in W213) after update that states:
"Map data does not match with your system. Please insert a medium containing the corresponding map data"
Also, "Traffic Sign Assist Inoperative" message pops out in the instrument cluster display
thanks!
Thanks Jonel! No worries! Glad you enjoy them!
No I haven’t, I haven’t tried updating maps since I made this video but as it’s MBUX it should be the same
Have you spoken with Mercedes? 🤓
@@npoleary I got in contact with a local dealer but the car is from German market so it could be some regional issue.
I had the German maps updated automatically and wanted to update the other ones and with few was ok, and when I have downloaded and updated some more, it stopped to be functional, as well as the traffic sign assist.
Just found this solution which definitely requires service at the dealer
Cause
Navigation database was not successfully activated
Remedy
Perform the proposed measure in order to remedy the complaint:
• Ensure the MBUX multimedia system (A26/17) software is up-to-date (E870.9 or newer)
• Perform a user data reset ("Settings" -> "System" -> "Reset" in the MBUX display). Check functionality. If the com- plaint remains then continue with next steps
• Open the Dealer menu by pressing and holding down the "Home" and "Radio/Media" buttons simultaneously for ap- proximately 8 seconds
• When in the Dealer menu, select "Navigation" - Then select "Delete MapData"
• Close the Dealer menu and reinstall the currently available NTG6 map data version from Download Manager CO- MAND/Hard-Disk navigation via USB
• Perform SCN coding of the MBUX multimedia system (A26/17) • Check navigation functionality
Hmmm sounds technical! Hopefully they can sort it for you!
The service did the update on the entire map set to 2022 v18.0 and it works now, two hours update with Daimler package.
TIA!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
I’d suggest chatting to Mercedes, the maps on cars are pretty-installed for the country they were intended for.
If you have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on the car, use that for now as that may help!
Hey Nick. Does the What.Three.Words facility extend to France?
Really sorry I wouldn’t know for other countries, you’ll have to ask Mercedes! I’ve not experienced a Mercedes model in France so not sure what they offer in terms of spec etc
Nice video, i have updated the map for my CLS 350 2022, can i upgrade the map to Satellite view ?
Sadly it’s just on models with the latest generation multimedia system from what I’ve seen. Best thing to do is to use Apple CarPlay and use Google Maps which has it built in.
Hi Nick
I brought my 2020 GLC300 from US to Dubai, UAE - can I do the same as you told in this clip to download the middle east map to my car ?
Hi! I would go careful importing or exporting cars that far away as modern cars can’t roam like phones can on different networks.
You could try it, but it probably will only ever have USA maps. Only thing I can suggest is to chat to Mercedes staff at a dealer or something, hopefully they can offer a solution!
I can't choose my country where i registered my car (Macedonia), when adding a vehicle to the Mercedes Me website.
Sadly Mercedes me isn’t available everywhere round the world
Chat to Mercedes where you’re based and I’m sure they’ll be able to help!

I will reach to them, thanks!
TIA
It depends on the equipment in the car
Sadly I only started my channel covering Mercedes in 2020 so have limited videos and on cars before that.

It depends on the year of car, Mercedes introduced map updates through Mercedes me for some cars after 2016 where it became kind of mainstream in 2018 and 2019 for most models (renewed on the Mercedes me store)
So it kind of depends, I can try and help what’s your model of car and year? It does vary round the world so I know a few bits for Mercedes in the UK but it’ll be different everywhere else so may need to chat to them directly.
@@npoleary I drive 2020 CLA 250e. I was able to update my maps while I had Mercedes-Benz Connect subscription active but it's seems strange to me that I am not able to update hard-disc nav after buying it.
If you’re based in the UK, map updates happen automatically as long as you have a valid subscription to Mercedes me.
Although you can update them manually on the website or update other countries too.
If you having issues just get in touch with Mercedes me support from the app who will be able to help 🤓
Usually in Menu, Help, Contact Support 👍🏼
Hi nick thank you for the reply,
Maybe I will try my local Mercedes dealership again just to see if they can assist in any way.
I’m not close to the sea so salt air wouldn’t be an issue.
Nick it’s always nice chatting to you and I really appreciate your feedback.

Hi,
Do you know if I can fix this message :
Due to the hardware installed at the factory, the following services are not available for your vehicle :
Parking for navigation
Weather map
Weather forecast
Local search
Car-to-X Communication
Online map update
So basically, I can purchase the service but I won't be able to use any of it's benefits... That's a great deal froms Mercedes...
Hi Andrei, which model of Mercedes do you have and what year?
This sounds like you’ll just have Live Traffic and if so the price should be adjusted for your car when your signed in.
If you get stuck, contact Mercedes me support and they can let you know 🤓
Could you do an item on easy entry and exit? Although I have it set up for steering wheel and seat only the steering wheel is responding.
Hey Murray, thanks for the suggestion!
I wasn’t planning on doing a video just on that but it’ll only work if your seat is quite far forward. For me sadly due to my seat position it won’t work where I sit as I’m quite tall.
Bravo!
Hey nick, i have the a250e sedan i just did the menu update and now the ambient lighting option disappeard its stuck at one color😢
Is there video showing how to update maps via SD card received from the Dealer?
If it’s a Garmin Map Pilot, I’ve seen someone update that before, you just pop the card in and press Activate.
About 10 secs later, it’s done!
@@npoleary where is SD slot?

I went to one shop mercedes and they said to me of updating maps cost 280£, I have mercedes Eclass 2017.
Hi Nick
Is it possible to disable this on an A classs 250E.
@@npoleary thanks Mick other than that loving the 250E

Hi Nick. My GLE350 came from the US and the region is only for US/Canade, but for Europe/Germany is blacked out? How do I access that?

The window does not come.🤔
Can you help?
In advance thank you.

Managed to solve this issue btw. I updated another country regio (Poland et al.). After that update everything is fine again..? Maybe there was an unreported issue during the first install, but all is well now! Thnx for your very informative videos.
Ah glad you managed to sort it! I was going to say I hadn’t heard of that message happening before!
In the UK, it’s free of charge for the first 3 years from registration and chargeable after 🤓
How to update A250 2019 which does not have nav icon on the 7” screen?
Thank you.
Hi Nick, when I get to launch download manager it does not go to the next step to download , please guide me . Thx
Have you installed the program? It opens the program automatically when you click launch on the website
@@npoleary I followed all your step, it just stuck when it gets to launch, how would I know if I installed the program or not ?
You’d be able to see it listed in the applications or programs if your PC or Mac
@@npoleary thanks , will check it out
Hi Nick, does Mercedes’ provide maps for the Caribbean and Africa?
They do have a feedback section on the Mercedes website but that is for the UK (it’s under their Contact Us section)
If you’re based in a country that doesn’t have Sat Nav built in, you might be able to get get in touch with your local Mercedes dealership and they might be able to feedback that way?
@@npoleary Thanks Nick. I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Great work.
