before pulling out the old cable, tie a string around the original wire and when you pull it out, you can connect the string and pull the new line back through.
Dealership left me on hold for over a month. Paid for camera and never got a call back to service. I'm picking up today and installing myself thanks to this!
I just installed a new backup camera. Your video really came in handy for me. It took me 1.5 hours to install. I had trouble trying to unplug the backup camera harness underneath the bumper. My truck is freshly undercoated and it was a real mess. Dropping the spare tire gave me that extra clearance. I didn't have any wire to fish the the new camera wiring through so I used 2 24" zip ties and fished the wire through. Luckily my wife was able to give me a hand fishing the wire through. The backup camera is night and day difference. I did notice it is a little distorted when the sun is reflecting off of some objects. But overall it works great. Thanks again for your step by step video.
Thanks for the information! I had already ordered this exact camera before seeing this video. I really appreciate you mentioning the Torx size in the video, saved me from putzing around.
Wear eye protection for this job. Struggling with this now, my connector near the tire doesn't have a red tab and I'm not sure how to get it off. May have to drop spare tire.
It isn't actually an HD image - the screen itself can't do HD according to my research - but it does remove the dirt/scratches causing the clouding on the old one. The question will be...how to protect the lens on the new one? I would like to see some camera lens protectors that you could put on and remove every couple of months to keep the lens protected!
Thanks so very much for this very helpful video. Best one out there! Could you let me know (at 2:43) where you go that very cool and useful screw driver that holds those pesky screws? I need to get that while my part is on order!
The ones placed by the truck will. The ones placed by the camera won’t. I would double check their width accuracy in case of the new camera has a different aspect ratio
The camera on my '17 Sierra is looking like the "before" image in this video. Almost useless at night. However, my wife's '24 Trax looks like 4k Ultra in comparison. I think the difference might be the newer software and interior screen. So, I'm not sure if changing the camera is worth the time and expense without also upgrading the software/screen as well. Any ideas on how to do that?
OEM screen can also be somewhat of the blame. I know some will replace the OEM camera (like we did), and also replace the OEM head unit with something aftermarket and it's a night and day difference.
How does this look at night compared to the OEM camera? Mine has recently looked grainier than usual at night, but it's not cloudy during the day. I have a 2016 Sierra with the powered lock tailgate, so this is the exact camera replacement I'm looking for. No doubt it provides a better and wider image, but all I've seen are videos/pics of it during the day. Looking for feedback on night clarity. Thanks!
You have the same problem I have on my sierra/dealer says it's normal and I don''t agree b/c 3 other trucks in my family look fine at night so I'm gonna buy this cam and put it in/ hope it does the trick
@@whiteout130 Unfortunately nothing definitive. Found one comment buried somewhere for a different branded camera (but it claims to have the wider viewing angle so I think they are the same) and they said it was not an improvement over the factory camera for night viewing. Since my camera is still fine during the day, I'm not in a rush to replace it and find out if this one is better at night. Let me know if you get one though and what you think of the night clarity.
After I replaced my camera yesterday, I went out last night and backed down my driveway in the dark. I found the picture well lit and could back around a corner really easily. This camera is 20x better than the stock one in a 2018 GMC Denali. The dealer kissed me off numerous times; they are going to be embarrassed when I show them what we did without their help!
What about the turn assist lines do they curve as you’re steering just like in the OEM camera? And I’m only asking bc I’ve seen other cars that don’t and I find it very helpful that GM does that for its vehicles.
Parts used linked in the description of the video!
The link shows it’s for 2016-2018. I have a 2019

How much was the camera at dealership? Looking to replace mine
Great video, thanks! I completed the install just as you showed, went smoothly and the new camera works far better than the old cloudy one.

Tie a piece of string to the old harness and pull your new harness back through.
Suggestion!!!! Move or remove the spare tire before you start. It will make your work and visibility underneath much easier.
I bought the Dorman, but same deal. Unplugging the connector was the devil. Everything else was a breeze.

Thanks for teaching us mate!!👍👍
Awesome tutorial!

Buy a phone screen protector take a razor and trace the camera might work idunno lol
Try a clear vinyl type material, small spot but might work

LOOKS GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will this work for a 2014 too or did something change with the camera in 2016?
Will the guidance lines still work the same as with the factory camera? Meaning when you turn the wheel, the guidance lines move accordingly?
The ones placed by the truck will. The ones placed by the camera won’t. I would double check their width accuracy in case of the new camera has a different aspect ratio
Yes, the dynamic guidelines still work as those are produced by the radio, not by the camera.
Notes in description cover this question.
Cool video bro 😎
Thanks ✌
Does the aftermarket camera still turns along the steering wheel while reversing?
You couldve just tied a string to the old harness and pulled it through then pulled it back to the other side with the new harness
Yes, you could do that as well.
Is it possible to just cut out the old camera and splice the new one in its place?
I need to replace mine on my 2019 chevy custom trailboss. Wonder if it's just as easy.
Is there a better camera out there than OEM? I am split between OEM, Part Select & Master Tailgaters
Why does the OEM camera looks like 💩? Does it get dirty?
How did you get the wire harness under the truck to unlatch?
Pull the red tab out, stick a small flathead in the opposite end of that channel where the tab keeps the two pieces together. It's a real PITA.
ani ideas on how to fix 2020 camaro reverse camera so it does not blind itself at night?
Will this work on a 2015 Tahoe
Do you have a camera for a 2016 yukon denali??? The stock camera is horrible
would this work for a 2016 tahoe? I need an upgrade...
The link only shows it fits 2016-2018

Will this work with a 2017 Chevrolet Volt?
anybody do this for a 2016 tahoe?
my 2018 escalade camera is fuzzy
Why replace the wire if you only need the camera?
Because the camera is hardwired into the harness.
Do you know if there one for 2016 escalade?
This probably won't fit into the tailgate of a 2018 Chevy Colorado 🤔??
Is there one for the 2016-2021 Malibu?
Yep: amzn.to/3lazmG0
Do you have any sample of the resolution in nighttime?
Nope, wasn’t a personal vehicle.
I Have 2018 Chevy Colorado, the tailgate does not have a power lock so what is the correct part number.
It is all linked in the description of the video.
Will this cure the blue screen of death....
Nope, but there are other videos that fix that issue.
I have a 2015 Silverado why won’t it work for my truck
That’s the years supported by the camera we installed.
Is there a way to turn off that music?

Did you find an answer to how it looks at night?

That is far from HD lol. Looks better, though.
I agree. Doesn't look that much better to justify that expense. Factory OEM is far better (and cheaper)
Great video and instructions. But why does everyone use porn music in their videos? I would rather have no music.
This wouldn’t work on 2015 Denali model?
It's based on what the camera replacement manufacture says it fits. Give it a shot.
Could this work for my 2014 Silverado?
Yes
