    The word "Cascaval" is generally used for yellow cheeses, and we use "Branza" for white cheeses (stuff like feta, cottage cheese). When you get "Branza" you expect it to be extra salty.

    Cascaval = Yellow cheese(not salty); Branza = White cheese(usually salty, but not necessarily). They are both generic terms covering multiple types of individual cheese. Sometimes you will find snacks listed with a specific type of cheese, like "telemea" or "urda" or "burduf" etc. You can think of them as sub-categories of branza.

  • @Night_Rider1820
    @Night_Rider1820 Год назад +43

    Branza (Cheese) is a fresh product made of fermented milk(cow,goat,sheep,buffalo,etc).Cascaval is salted aged cheese kept in controlled humidity and temperature environment condition. Cascaval is more dense and it has less water, the texture is mostly creamy and it takes some time to get the final product.

    • @ionicafardefrica
      @ionicafardefrica Год назад +3

      otherwise said - branza=traditional cheese, not matured over a long time, always made with natural products. The stuff you had at the wedding girl's party a few videos ago. High quality, and usually quite pricey as well. Cascaval=your typical matured cheese, emulating Tom and Jerry cheese with holes (When I said emulating I was being generous, it's artificial and cheap as hell, using industrial processes and fake ingredients to speed the time. But hey, it is what it is)

    Word of advice. Avoid Fornetti. They are not baked in-place but frozen goods from a factory (it's a franchise). Full of preservatives and other industrial additives. Also cleanness of some Fornetti stores leaves to be desired (there have some old reports about that - might be a thing of the past). Want fresh baked goodies, avoid Fornetti. They just re-heat frozen baked pre-made goods.

    • @eternalflame8104
      @eternalflame8104 Год назад

      Also, their goods are not worth the money. There are other cheaper and better pastry shops that sell sweet baked goods.

      Yes, Fornetti is a franchise and I'm not sure, but I do not think it is a Romanian franchise. And the goods are not baked on the spot, but frozen.
      Everyone has good stuff and not so good. I buy occasionally from Fornetti.

    Try the combination urda cu marar (ricotta with dill) or varza (cabbage).

    22:45 There wass in the `90, when in my home town Suceava, there wass cheery, souer cherry, apricots, plums, mirabelle, grapes, apples and pears all over the streets and gardens in front of the houses and block of flats. Also linden trees witch ppl pick them up for driy and use it at making tea. We still have some of them but not so many as in the past. Keep in mind that back them in the `90 there werent so many cars to polute the air and u could just eat those right from the trees.

    You guys are so lucky; I love the look of those mici; I cannot imagine how good they taste. I have to look for some here in Vancouver. Or for a recipe on RUclips. I would say they go perfectly in those buns, like hot dogs, with mustard and ketchup. 👌👌👌

    If you have the chance, try any pie with "urda si marar". "Urda" is similar to Ricotta or Cottage cheese, but not the same. I'm not sure, but I think it's specific to Eastern Europe and Balkans area. And "marar" is just dill but, as you already know from sarmale, it adds a very nice flavor to the whole dish.

    The fries from Cartofisserie are my favorite street food right now. I used to go and eat from there when taking lunch break at work, before we all retreated to work from home. Sometimes I kinda miss it, so I order it via Glovo or other food delivery services in Bucharest.

    Steve and Ivana.. visit Obor for mici.. most of the time(s) you arrive in Bucharest. 😁👍
    I would suggest trying the ones from ,,La Ciotoianu'' too (a place in Bucharest too. More exactly in Popești Leordeni area).
