What exactly did they do? They were snobs of course. But Lorelai was a wild child! She acted just like a lot of rich kids who have everything. Running around screwing everything and when she got pregnant she just ups and leaves. Now she is upset because Chris is staying by this woman who he got pregnant. That is what you are supposed to do. Rich girls are funny sometimes. When they have everything, they crave drama, misery, chaos, and pain. Her life was miserable because she made it miserable and Rory turned around and followed right in her footsteps! 😮🤫👏🤔

@@bobbiking2123 Disagree. She was not shown love, affection or emotional support by her parents during that extremely difficult time, and in the end she left to do what was best for her. Not saying she did it in the most mature way, but she was 16. Do you remember when Emily was screaming at her while she was literally in labour? How can anyone thrive in an environment like that? And I completely disagree that she had a miserable life. She was a very positive person who literally left to create her dream life and was happy - shouldn't we praise her for that? Isn't that what we're all trying to do? So she built a good life for herself and was happy and yet her parents resented her for it, which is not the role of a parent. Parents are supposed to want their child to be happy, not just to uphold their reputation and image.

Who knows maybe Chris didn't want to raise rory in stars hollow maybe he wanted to raise her elsewhere but lorelai didn't agree. The truth is we don't know as Amy never confirmed the back story. Poor Lorelai :( Richard was always so vitriolic towards her whenever it came to Christopher. He held her past against her whilst giving Christopher a free pass on everything just because he followed the 'plan' and she didn't.
Christopher was a horrible father to Rory but that wasn't Lorelai's fault. He dipped in and out of their lives whenever he saw fit, who's to say it wouldn't have been a similar story had they gotten married when young.

Did he think about going with her when she ran off to Stars Hallow? Did he know where she was during that time, and knowingly stay away? Or did he find out later? I'm just so curious about the specifics and how much Lorelai really did keep Rory to herself in those early years.

i hate how everyone ignores these kind of scenes, they all say that lorelai was a bad daughter and treat her parents like crap and Richard and Emily were the good guys. They blame everything on her when most of the time Christopher has all the fault, they think they have every right to interfere in her life and treat her like a teenager when she’s already a grown woman, they don’t let her make her own decisions, they want to control her life. This might be controversial but parents need to understand that at the second their child has a family (is married or have kids) as much as it hurts, they aren’t the immediate family anymore. Lorelai doesn’t own them anything, she has every right to not wanting her parents interfering in her personal life.

    • @purplefire5
      @purplefire5 2 года назад +2

I agree with most of your comment except for the part where you say she doesn’t owe her parents anything. Are you kidding me??? You mean her mother who carried her for 9 months and went through pain and difficulty to bring her into this world. And then raised her (yes I’m sure she made a lot of mistakes as a mother but regardless), you owe your parents so much, in fact, you could never “repay” them for all the sacrifices they’ve made for you. They literally spend most of their money on you, nurture you, raise you. And then when you’re old enough and become an independent adult you owe them nothing? No one is more important than them (with the exception of your children because they’re helpless) not even your husband.

  •  2 года назад +28

Everyone seems to like jumping on Rory, Emily, and Lorelai's case for being the worst character but I think that award goes to Richard Gilmore. Not only does he not have any moral values in his business dealings (what he did to Jason), not only does he act like he's above everyone (how he was to Dean), but the fact that he let's his mother treat Emily, the way she does is unforgivable... But ofcourse he gets away with it because he's a man and always so cheerful... Its a good thing he wasn't in the revival (the character I mean) and I think Emily matured much more as a character not having to deal with the gilmores any more...

1:51 If they summered or whatever in Marthasvineyard, they would go at the same time as other DAR members, which means that Emily and Richard probably socialized with the Huntzbergrers because they have a place in Martha's Vineyard. So this scone mix (meant to evoke a cottage core, demure, Donna Reed aesthetic) could be a gift from the Huntzbergers to the Gilmores, when really it was a gift from Mitchum to Rory saying that she is on his radar, maybe as a prospective wife for his heir? Emily does gossip, what if she mentioned the Donna Reed dress up incident with Dean to the DAR, as it would present Rory as Demure, so this gift is also a nod to the fact they have been keeping tabs on gossip about Rory for awhile
I think Rory would have figured that out, even if Lorelie didnt (or pretended not to), and I think Emily knew if she just gave Rory the gift she could piece it together 1:47

I am starting to see that this show has raised a generation of fatherless feminists who are narcissistic and as Richard put it: "Lorelai never thinks about the consequences of her actions on other people." This show should be banned in North America and come with a warning label: Will convince women that they are the center of the universe and their actions should never be questioned by anyone, not by parents, family, church, society. A woman is an island all to herself. This show is the cause of millions of divorces in our country. We have a real problem in our society with women refusing to take any responsibility or accountability for their actions. One can only communicate with women in writing now, because if you talk to a woman who is emotionally unstable, she will cry and you will be crucified without an adequate trial. Women have become a danger to a fair and just society.

I’ve watched and analyzed this show many times and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s mostly interpretive to one’s own experience, but I see it more as a commentary on those issues.. It’s supposed to be highlighting those flaws as a cautionary tale and to show that Lorelai is actually just like her parents in many ways, including being very controlling and selfish. She tried to escape it, but never really dealt with anything that deeply, so she is actually just as shallow

Oh, shut up. When men had all the rights and women none, society wasn't better, was 1 mil times worse. Children worked in factories, minor girls sold into bordellos, pedophilia was rampant, women had less rights than cattle, there were wars and poverty and famine, not to mention bloody power hungry male dictators who killed millions. Nobody had any rights except the powerful aristocratic men.
I'd rather live in this world created by women, where there is no Russian male troops outside my door (like it happened to my grandmother who was repeatedly ra ped by them during the WW2), where people have basic human rights.
And 99% of women divorce because they have to, because their partners are entitled and don't help them with nothing around the house and many become abusive and controlling and even violent (like my own father, who used to punch me in the heads for fun). But my mother didn't divorce because she had nowhere to go and no job. So I have to suffer with the consequences of his actions everyday, I have neurological and psychological problems, trauma induced PTSD, ED and other problems. So it's men who don't have accountability or any responsibility and single motherhood is better than to subject kids to men's violent behaviour and entitlement.
Not to mention that many women have to raise their kids by themselves because the men left them or are in prison for crimes they have committed without thinking of the consequences to their children and families.
Divorced women don't have to raise children alone, because fathers have parental rights and can be actively in that child's life just like before. Nobody stops you from being present your child's life after divorce. It's just most men don't care.
It's men who don't have any accountability for their actions, not women.
In this series, it's Chris who never cared for Lorelei and Rory and did his own thing, separate from their lives and struggles. He could have been there but he was busy living a good privileged life offered by his father while Lorelei scraped by trying to make ends meet. She did the right thing for her child. As many women do when they decide that being a single mother is best than being in an abusive situation with someone like you.
