Thank you! I just bought a 2024 170 crew AWD. The build is forthcoming. I've actually been losing sleep wondering how to get the headliner out. Yay! Thanks to you guys, I'll actually get some sleep tonight!! 😂

If you plan on reusing or reselling your headliner DO NOT follow these instructions of "quick pulls". How do I know? well, I did and the first panel with clips, it ripped out 3 mounts out of the headliner... I decided to use a regular angled pry tool after that and haven't broken a single clip across the whole car, including door panels and wall panels..

How to remove overhead console. Use credit card or similar sized plastic card you carry in your wallet. Not a metal tool! Insert card into the thin gap around the opening, directly in the center. Console pops down and hangs with two pivot points. Remove plugs and pull console free. If vehicle is equipped with automatic headlights an error will occur with the console removed saying that it is inoperative. Fear not, as soon as the console has its plugs re inserted the error will clear. Reason being is that the sensor for the auto headlights is powered from the console.
    P.S
Pop A pillar and twist inward toward the windshield and you’ll never lose that metal clip or fight trying to remove it.
    P.P.S
If you don’t want broken headliner clips stick a panel popper tool in and rock them side to side, do not use a fulcrum action. Be sure to get under the while clip where it meets the metal, not on one of its raised edges.

Great video. However, something is not clear (especially after reading this comment from . [dot]). I would like to tap into 12V above the map light console to power a rearview camera monitor that clips over the existing rearview mirror. Watching the @Adventure Wagon video it seems like I would need to remove the entire headliner to remove the map light console. However, . [dot] seems to imply that the "overhead console" can be removed with a credit card. Is the "overhead console" the same as the map light console?

Great video - do you have any video with a van that has the roof air conditioner unit?

Yes, that is needed. I had to figure it out for myself. I bought a passenger van because why would I want to go out to beautiful scenery and be sitting there in a can with no windows.

This is so helpful and your informative, clearly explained steps is well done! Thank you! I am just starting on my 2018 passenger Sprinter with a rooftop ac, with plans to sell the ac. This van was hardly used with only 9500 miles as it was a Mercedes shuttle pr vehicle for the Georgia Augusta Golf tournaments. I am near Boulder Colorado, so with the snow I just put a space heater inside while I work. I am having so much fun!

Thanks for the video. If you plan on reusing the headliner and you break the clips can you replace them? Or are they integral to the headliner? Are they hard to source? MB dealer? Or auto parts supplier?

    • @AdventureWagon
      @AdventureWagon  6 дней назад +1

Yep! If you break the clips we recommend contacting a MB dealer, you should be able to get them there.

@@AdventureWagon Oh no. Might take a long time. I think I'll look on the MB parts website.

Does Mercedes put headliners in the back of cargo vans? I need a video showing how to remove the plastic venting for the rear air conditioner in a Mercedes sprinter passenger van. I’m leery of builders or people that do van tours that only criticize products that they can’t make a profit off of through a “partnership a.k.a. affiliation a.k.a. brand ambassadorship”.

Thx Guys, really helpful! Can I ask for your advice for how to go about removing the headliner on my 2020 144 Crew? But only enough to access the plugs in the roof so I can install oem roof rails? My van didn’t come with the roof rails;( Do I need to remove the headliner completely, or is there a way to still keep it installed partially? Thx!

Does anyone have advice on removing the plastic pieces that secure the lower side panels on the 2020 crew?? The pieces in the 2020 don't have a slit for your screwdriver and it took me an hour to remove one of them with a flathead screwdriver. Thanks!

I wrap for a living and popped that center dome light bezel off to get to the antenna. Then I tried to put it back and didn't know that main piece separates. Man did I lose my shit at work.
I almost took the whole headliner down. Thank god for your video showing that latch to separate the two. Thank you.

Nice work, and most of your demo is still relevant to the pre 2019 and 170WB Sprinters--I just wish I had seen this 6 months ago when I learned most of this by trial and error! Lots of clear and helpful advice in this video to take out the headliner and the side panels. One question I had though: Since, like you guys found, I broke most of the headliner clips, do you have a reliable and inexpensive source of replacement plastic pin clips I can pursue? I will be upholstering, and then replacing my headliner, so I will need a couple dozen of these plastic clips. Are there better ones out there that don't break as easily?

Amazon has a ton of these kinds of clips. Maybe not identical but there are dozens of styles.
