  • Many of you asked the difference between ~(으)니까 and ~아/어서. I think it’s better to familiarize yourself with situations you use ~(으)니까 with examples. Ready to shadow and duet me?
    In a nutshell:
    - both can be used with verbs and adjectives
    Reason ~아/어서 + result.
    - 서 is from “그래서”: so, therefore
    - factual cause and effect: neutral
    - most likely only in statements
❌ NOT used in questions, commands, suggestions
    Reason ~(으)니까 + 2nd clause.
    - "subjective" and one's logical reasoning
    - used with suggestion, request, recommendation, command (in addition to statement)
    🎀 When to use ~(으)니까 🎀
    1. Reason for recommendation, suggestion, command, or request!
    ❌NO ~아/어서!!!!!!!
    [PRACTICE]
저 요즘 심심하니까 재미있는 거 추천해 주세요.
Because I’m bored these days, please recommend something fun.
👉🏼 I used (으)니까 to give the reason for my request.
    [HOW TO RECOMMEND]
    SUB + Reason~(으)니까 + (꼭/한번) 보세요.
    Ex:
    킹덤 재미있으니까 한번 보세요.
Because Kingdom is fun, give it a try and watch it.
    - 킹덤 재미이있어서 한번 보세요. ❌
    철인왕후 웃기니까 꼭 보세요.
Because Mr. Queen is funny, you must watch it.
    - 철인왕후 웃겨서 꼭 보세요 ❌
    C으니까
    재미있다 (fun; interesting) - 재미있으니까
    좋다 (good, nice) - 좋으니까
    아름답다 (beautiful) - 아름다우니까 [ㅂ 👉🏼 우]
    V니까
    웃기다 (funny) - 웃기니까
    심심하다 (bored) - 심심하니까
    감동적이다 (touching/moving) - 감동적이니까
    2. Subjective reasoning: emphasizes this is what YOU THINK is the reason!
    👉 Can I use ~아/어서?
YES for many contexts! 👌 It will rather sound neutral by simply stating cause and effect. If you use ~(으)니까, it emphasizes that it is your thought and subjective reasoning.
    [PRACTICE]
Pretend you’re my sibling, parent or close friend and tell me why you think I gained weight. Give me 잔소리(nagging)! 😆
    Me: 나 살쪘어...🙄
    You: __________________
👉 Say it while watching the video and write it in the comment!
    Ex:
    나 살 쪘어. 운동 안 하니까 살 찌지...
I gained weight. Because I don’t exercise, of course I’d gain weight...
    나: 나 살쪘어... 바지가 안 들어가!
Me: I gained weight... My pants don’t fit!
    언니: 운동 안 하니까 그렇지.
Unni: Because you don’t exercise, that’s why.
    C으니까
    먹다 (to eat) - 먹으니까
있다 (to stay, exist) - 있으니까
    V니까
    운동하다 (to exercise) - 운동하니까
보다 (to watch, see) - 보니까
    PAST TENSE: ~았/었/ㅆ으니까
먹었어요 ate - 먹었으니까 because ...ate
있었어요 stayed, was there - 있었으니까
    운동했어요 exercised - 운동했으니까
    봤어요 watched, saw - 봤으니까
    3. Reasoning, rationalization for your evaluation or findings
    A~(으)니까 B
I did A, and that is why and how I realized, found out, thought B.
    집에 오니까 엄마가 없었어요.
I came home, and realized mom wasn’t home.
    혼자 사니까 어때요?
    [살다 to live: ㄹ drops]
    Living alone, how is it?
= based on your experience of living alone which is the reason for the upcoming evaluation, what have you come to think of it?
    저는 혼자 사니까 너무 좋아요!
As for me, living alone, I realized it’s really nice!
= I realized living alone is nice because I have lived alone.
    [Listen and Repeat]
    한국어 배우니까 어때요?
Learning Korean, how do you find it? (How is it?)
    한국어 배우니까 좋아요.
Learning Korean, it’s nice/I like it.
    [Write your own answer]
    Q: 한국어 배우니까 어때요?
    A: 한국어 배우니까 __________.

Awesome! "Subjective reasoning" is a great way to explain that usage of (으)니까.

Although I had learned about this grammar (as well as 아/어서) years ago, I feel like I was never able to definitively pinpoint their differences UNTIL I came across your video explaining them. I literally had a eureka moment. As with everything, I'm sure it will take a lot more practice for it to become second nature to me, but your videos make it easier to get there. You're really good at explaining the difficult aspects of grammar points-which IMO is their "feeling".
