Social Dining in Denmark with Chef Esben ( / roddercph ) - This video includes a huge array of two days of sourcing top quality ingredients, and eating street food in Copenhagen. We visited many local small producers, from farms to cheeses to award winning chocolate. On the day of the social dining event, we visited more grocery stores, and picked our own mushrooms.
Esben and I also decided to eat some Copenhagen street food, including Gasoline Burgers, which are known to be some of the best burgers in Copenhagen, using organic ingredients and served from a gas station. Then we went straight to Kebabistan, one of Copenhagen’s best kebab restaurants.
Finally, for the big meal Danish food social dining event, we went to Vin de Table, and Esben used the ingredients we sourced to cook an amazing home-style Danish meal. The food was delicious and it was a perfect way to wrap up an amazing trip in Denmark!
Here are the main places we visited in this video:
Hårbølle Mejeri - Dairy Farm
Rønnede Inn - Danish Restaurant
Friis-Holm - Award winning chocolate
Købmand - Gourmet grocery
Empirical Spirits - Copenhagen distillery
Gasoline Grill - Fresh organic burgers
ØsterGRO - Rooftop farm
Kebabistan - Shawarma Copenhagen
Vin de Table - Natural wine shop
Thank you again to Visit Copenhagen ( / visitcopenhagen ) for supporting my trip, and to Esben ( / roddercph ) for taking me around and cooking. It was an amazing trip!

I never did think about it, but it must be an interesting job, i think my favorite is Gorgonzola, but I like them all :)
As an American who lived in Denmark 15 years between the 1980's-2000 and have two grown son's raised and still living there and many friends, I must give Huge Kudos to you Mark. This Denmark series is unquestionably the BEST EVER honest and fair review of Danish food and it's origins I'veever seen. You nailed every aspect, and it's been a joy to finally see someone properly showcase the uniqueness (deliciousness) of Danish cuisine.
Hats off to the master 😁🤗👍
Blessings, James and Kim
I didn’t see Mark enjoy much of what he was eating tbh lol his preference is definitely Asian foods & spicy. I’m still glad he chose to do some European countries. The food looked exquisite!!!!
Why come back to the U.S.??? I think I would have stayed?
@@GT55101because the US is better?
@@decker5032 I'm not sure what you mean? I asked why he would come back to the U.S.? I think he should have stayed in Denmark.
Hi Mark!
I just wanna say thanks for showing off our country! Your engagement and respect for every place you visit is wonderful. And your respect for both the local cuisine and the people is really inspiring!
Thank you very much for your incredible support!
The Danes really seem to have a beautiful sense of aesthetics. From the restaurant interior designs, to the plating of dishes, to even the packaging of that gas station burger, it was all very tasteful. Wonderful series, Mark!
all nordic countries have that. "nordic design" is a huge selling point for a reason
Yes, absolutely. It's my dream to live in Denmark.
Now I understand why your tour guide is taking you to all these up scale places.....he’s a chef. 👨🏻🍳
and obviously mark pays for all of it :)
I really like him, he's so low-key but secretly really knowledgeable

Actually this Denmark tour is sponsored, so no ve doesn’t😉
But I feel uncomfortable everytime he touched the foods before Mark
It's like my dreamland where the society has high awareness of self & environment sustainability, producing their own food, organic ones at that and even through the video i can breathe the fresh air emanating from the screen lol ❤️❤️

@@kimklarskovpedersen2576 they good thing about "free" health care and high taxes is basically that it works as a kind of insurance. You pay your taxes, then you dont need to worry if you get hurt. So yeah not free, more like insurance.

This was unexpectedly wonderful! They really understand and practice the so-called farm to table concept much better than many other cultures. Great series.
what i like about this episode is it's more than just Copenhagen. i think it's a problem for many tourists visiting Denmark is they are staying in our Capitol where this hole Hipster culture has taken over almost everything. but Mark went out to the farm lands visited the Danish Agriculture sector which Denmark is very much Build upon, Farming made this country what it is. so a tip from a Dane and you're a tourist, try leaving Copenhagen going out eating on older inn's/Restaurants, or hell try going to other places than just Sjælland/Zealand go to Fyn or Jylland/Jutland visit our heritage sites. there is more to Denmark than just Copenhagen. Have a nice day.
I strongly agree! Scrolled through the comments to see if anybody else addressed this. As much as I love Copenhagen (from the region), our countryside and different regions gets neglected far too often. Which is silly, considering how easy it is to travel around this country.
I was mainly sad with the traditional food tbh. Primarily because (and I know it's somewhat a cliche) nothing beats grandmother's food. Preferably from Jutland. There is definitely ways to get that in an actual restaurant, just haven't found one in the capital yet, but other places, for sure!
Beautiful seeing people eating together. Love and blessing from Ethiopia.
I loved this series!!! A long long long time ago, I was an exchange student in Denmark. I have lost touch with my Danish sister and have no idea how to find her. The country is beautiful, the people are marvelous and the food is delicious!

I just love how they share the meals, and not being afraid of " contamination" ! Thats making a bond between persons.
Last time I lived in Copenhagen 1986 there was no such food as you show here, Copenhagen has changed a LOT since then. Will get to see for myself when I return next year.

My favorite country in the world! I was there for 2 years and enjoyed every bit of my time there. I wish to go back there again someday.
One thing I've noticed throughout this Denmark series is that they REALLY love their mayonnaise! Man they put that stuff on EVERYTHING!
Yeah we love our remoulade.
Egg and mayo is 10/10 :D
@Anton Boludo Oh nice! We love our remoulade. it's a danish thing.
Mayo or remoulade is all ways an fight in my kitchen
Its mostly on smørrebrød, that and remoulade is the only condements that works with the majority of toppings we use on smørrebrød:) Traditional danish warm food (not smørrebrød) often uses gravy or stewed vegetables as sauce
This entire video was fabulous...the dinner cooked by Esben looked awesome, my mouth is still watering 💜

And Esben is an awesome "farm to table" hipster chef. I always look forward to watching yet another one of your charming food adventures.
Hi Mark, your series of food in Denmark, has to be the most in-depth presentation, I know of or have seen, THANK YOU! for taking our food culture serious.
Today (Nov. 17th when this video went up) makes 3 years since Micah's birthday video was put up. Happy Birthday Micah, you are having a wonderful life with your parents showing you the world. Great video series, keep them coming!
Wow this is really food heaven place. I really love Copenhagen Denmark. Great sharing Mark. Keep it up
I used to be a death metal bassist, had a tour that featured Aalborg. I've been so amazed by simplicity yet richness of the local habits & culture. I've been lucky to explore Norway in all it's rediculous beauties a decade ago but Denmark is a miricle in a nutshell and seems to be the wealthiest environment in the whole world!
Wowww.... I loved the whole journey of picking up things from various places and then cooking and social dinning... It was amazing...😃😃

Gorgeous video, but I'm quite sad to see the last of the Denmark series! Hey Mark! 👋 You've given us another exquisite video!! This Denmark series is very refreshing. And geesh, Micah is growing right before our very eyes and he's ADORABLE. With that being said, hi Ying, hey Micah. I can't wait to see the next video from the coolest globetrotting family I know of. 💜💜💜
Mark and Ying, I appreciate these videos more than words can convey. When I sit to eat I am terrible, I want my space, privacy, and a utube video.
So to show such grace, and patience to examine, and explain the food plus your emotion is PRICELESS!
When I eat a crappy processed American meal even then I am obsessive about peace, and quiet, and a invisible "Do Not Disturb" sign while eating.
Bravo to both of you. I like every video I watch before I watch. Hope this channel continues. The best on utube imo. Sorry for the wall of words but I sincerely needed you to know this! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
In Copenhagen, gas station burgers look like restaurant quality burgers in New York
Actually, besides the original Gasoline Grill, the owners also run Gasoline Grill 2, Gasoline Grill Vesterport, Gasoline Grill Street Kitchen, Gasoline Grill CarlsbergByen and Gasoline Grill Værnedamsvej, all in the city of Copenhagen .. and Gasoline Grill was named among the 27 best burgers in the World by Bloomberg, along with Minetta Tavern, Pizza Loves Emily, NoMad Hotel and The Spotted Pig that are all restaurant quality burgers you find in New York.
www.gasolinegrill.com/
I'll add that the gasoline burgers have been considered for a Michelin star. It is NOT a "gas station" burger :D
Joharra Siazon WHAAAAAT! Don’t even compare it to shake shack, that’s comparing michelin star to mcdonald’s, yuckkkk
@@abidabdi3899 I had both. It easily compares. If you just know what parts of the cow to combine, it's quite easy for a trained chef or butcher to achieve, that insane level of flavour in the patty.
That one looked good, but notice that he never does his signature head lean which means he wasn't impressed.
Before I knew I was Danish i was making all of my sandwiches as smodderbrod, now that I've actually learned what it is, I have opened to a whole new world of flavor!

Hi Mark! Wonderful video in Copenhagen, Denmark. My father was introduced to a few military friends from Denmark when stationed in Greenland. I was young when he made some dishes from Denmark.
