I live in San Francisco and am not a liberal and vote against all this liberal crap. Unfortunately, it does not do much good. The same with everything else that there is a problem with or say, "They need to fix this."

I'm so glad you did a walkabout in the Excelsior, Leo! Such an ethnically diverse, tight-knit, and family-oriented area. Some people may consider Daly City, which is just to the south, as part of the Excelsior In the early 60s, Malvina Reynolds, who lived in Berkeley, wrote a song about Daly City called "Little Boxes" that was recorded and sung by Pete Seeger. It was about the development of suburbia and the ensuing conforming of the middle class... Ironically, while I see that the Excelsior is getting hit, too, with the emptying of businesses and corporate entities, I believe that this area will be the first to bounce back as the family/community structure that has been dug in there since that song was written will be it's saving grace... Those "Little Boxes made of ticky-tacky" are now going to be the survivors after the rest of San Francisco becomes a ghost town; not because of how/where they were built, but because of who lives in them -- real people who put family and community values first... Here are the lyrics 👇👇👇 "Little boxes on the hillside Little boxes made of ticky tacky Little boxes on the hillside Little boxes all the same There's a pink one and a green one And a blue one and a yellow one And they're all made out of ticky tacky And they all look just the same And the people in the houses All went to the university Where they were put in boxes And they came out all the same And there's doctors and lawyers And business executives And they're all made out of ticky tacky And they all look just the same And they all play on the golf course And drink their martinis dry And they all have pretty children And the children go to school And the children go to summer camp And then to the university Where they are put in boxes And they come out all the same And the boys go into business And marry and raise a family In boxes made of ticky tacky And they all look just the same There's a pink one and a green one And a blue one and a yellow one And they're all made out of ticky tacky, And they all look just the same" Thanks again, Leo! More people need to support your work here! 👍👍👍
This really hit my heart. I remember that song but never related it to Daly City which is where I have lived. I grew up in the SF mission district - Dolores Park, Mission High School, ICA, Woolworth, Mission movie houses. How is this going to end???
I normally wouldn't comment on a video like this, however, there are issues with items on video. Firstly, the video shows stores on Mission Street, not Ocean Avenue. Radio Shack stores in several places are vacant, not just San Francisco, but they still exist with independently owned stores. The El Ray theater that you showed was closed, yes, it is but as a theater, it hasn't been one in more than 25 years... Until about a year and a half ago, it was home to a church for the last twenty-five years plus. They are now located in a smaller building just off highway 101 near the Brisbane border. You showed a closed fast food building, but i can tell you that the building hasn't served food in years. I used work and live in the area, so i'm aware of changes that have taken place. I still visit the area at least once a month...Yeah, things are tough in the city and Ocean Avenue, but things are tough in many places, not just San Francisco. And Beeps Drive in on Ocean Avenue has been around since 1962, making it the second oldest drive in San Francisco.
the issue with that Radio Shack is it’s been closed for years and no new tenant, and haven’t even bothered taking the sign down, it’s a sad state of affairs
😮 When I was a kid every Sunday my parents would take my sister and I to a Chinese restaurant on Ocean Ave. The food was delicious. Memories are all we have of a once beautiful city.😢
Does anyone remember the old "Phelan Loop" where the 'K' streetcar turned around? What about the old Safeway that was right next to it (later "Grand Auto")?
I used to take the K Street streetcar from Dorado and Ocean to Market and Beale and back. Decent commute while reading the Sporting Green in the Chron.
Some of the buildings have nice architecture. Others have bad “vibes”. There is still meter parking on Ocean closer to 19th Ave. Lends a bit of life to the street. Thank You, Leo✨
When you read that note posted in that closed coin shop, I got a strong erie feeling. That feeling juxtaposed with so many closed bank branches leads me to the conclusion that they know something they aren't telling us. I have a feeling something really, really, really catastrophicly bad is going happen to San Francisco and they are preparing for it. I mean, you tell me... what the hell is going on here? This is Detroit level economic destruction. This is bad... dude...
The are stopping people from accessing their money. They want everything electronic. They can shut your money down in a second. Sure, they have ATM's but you can't take out huge amounts at one time if needed. It is all about control.
That's part of my old neighborhood. I grew up on San Jose Ave which crosses Ocean Ave. Always drove or walked up to ocean Ave for McDonald's, blockbuster, food, etc. Drove thru there recently and just reminisced on how it used to be. That taqueria was so good BTW.
What a bummer! There used to be a big Blockbuster Video store on Ocean Avenue when I lived in San Francisco back in the 90's and I used to take my pet English Fancy Rats-- Lucy and Ethel with me in costumes -- sitting on my shoulder-- when I went there. Most of the customers liked them, but a few would scream and run out of the store when they saw them.
That is where the CVS pharmacy that he showed is closed now use to be. By the way the people who ran out of Blockbuster because of your cute little rats are just stupid and are the ones who voted for all this crap that is destroying the city.
The El Ray theater is a historic gem. It opened in 1931 but it closed in 1977. Then it was owned by a church group every since. So basically nothing was updated since 1977 that explains the original ancient colors, the windows and even the boards used to boarded it up. The church went bankrupt and lost the property. Now developers want to turn in into condominiums
About 10 years ago, the city decided to rip-down all of the overhead power lines on Ocean Ave, as part of a "beautification" project. The street went from a working-class business district, to being pretentious and overpriced. No wonder everything went out of business.
And this is in one of the neighborhoods that are supposed to be “thriving.” I didn’t realize so many businesses had closed down on ocean Ave. It seems the incompetent people at city hall are doing this on purpose
Thanks for risking your life and car, ah, and your feet stepping in poo ... so we don't have to :) Damn, so sad, and so glad I left a few years ago - I know the area well, having ridden on my motorcycle countless time via 19th Ave to catch 280 - great highway to open it up.
El Rey was an absolutely beautiful Art Deco theatre and venue. Both inside and out. I remember seeing a concert series of Latin rock and folk music there back in 2006
It's only SFO, Oakland, and Berkeley were most businesses are closing. If you go north to Roseville area, businesses are doing very well. There are no closed shops.
I always wondered about Skid Row and how many businesses they allowed this to happen. So it appears they are allowing even more areas to be no-go zones.

It made a comeback from about 2008 through 2020. Once Whole Foods opened, lot's of new businesses opened and Ocean Ave was busy. That's no longer the case, thanks to covid.
@@vanzarockin please ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Ocean didn’t make no comeback in 08-20 ! Ocean has been a shit hole since I was a kid and even before that, before the china took over and made ocean China town, most people wouldn’t be caught dead out there walking due to lakeview so close and fear of gettin robbed or worse, not so much the case now, but still a shitty part of town, no parking, nothing to buy, who goes to gay ass traderjoes or Whole Foods anymore really ?
And the 24 hour fitness down the street sucks too
Fuck ocean Ave and SF
From a born and raised native
It used to be way worse in the 1980's. They have actually brought that neighborhood up.
San Francisco is one of the most expensive places in America to live. This is what you see when you leave your million dollar home.
Thank you to our host for taking us along on these informative outdoor walking tour presentations
Anytime! More videos to come !
My ex sister in law and brother in law live in that area. They are ride or die San Franciscans and voted for all of this without question. Wonder how they feel now that it’s on their doorstep.
I live in San Francisco and am not a liberal and vote against all this liberal crap. Unfortunately, it does not do much good. Your ex-sister in-law and brother-in-law just step over the problem (homeless person) and ignore that it is there. The same with everything else that there is a problem with or say, "They need to fix this."
Without all of the former commerce adding to the tax base, HOW will the city survive? It looks as though most of it is already being left to rot. It all begs the question as to _what_ are the PtB’s ultimate plans for the future there, and in other similarly once vital and thriving, but, now abandoned and decaying, commercial districts?
The democrats and their voters have an IQ of 65. You’re seeing what happens when you vote based on feelings.
Your. Doing a great service, get the info out, keep on trucking. Thank you 👍
Thanks, will do!
Thanks i watch your vidéos from switzerland, love so much your vidéos. Thanks a lot
Glad you like them!
"Drug addicts facilities are always 24-hours open" - London Beep
The sad part is they have no one to blame but themselves- all self inflicted
I'm so glad you did a walkabout in the Excelsior, Leo! Such an ethnically diverse, tight-knit, and family-oriented area. Some people may consider Daly City, which is just to the south, as part of the Excelsior
In the early 60s, Malvina Reynolds, who lived in Berkeley, wrote a song about Daly City called "Little Boxes" that was recorded and sung by Pete Seeger.
Here are the lyrics 👇👇👇
"Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes made of ticky tacky
Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes all the same
There's a pink one and a green one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same
And the people in the houses
All went to the university
Where they were put in boxes
And they came out all the same
And there's doctors and lawyers
And business executives
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same
And they all play on the golf course
And drink their martinis dry
And they all have pretty children
And the children go to school
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university
Where they are put in boxes
And they come out all the same
And the boys go into business
And marry and raise a family
In boxes made of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same
There's a pink one and a green one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky tacky,
And they all look just the same"
Thanks again, Leo!
More people need to support your work here! 👍👍👍
This really hit my heart. I remember that song but never related it to Daly City which is where I have lived. I grew up in the SF mission district - Dolores Park, Mission High School, ICA, Woolworth, Mission movie houses. How is this going to end???
I was born and raised in San Francisco, and I remember this song.
The issue is that Radio Shack closed years ago and no one thought that opening a business in that location was a worthwhile investment
They are doing it on purpose to di a reset
They think we are stupid
They are banking on it. I mean they are not wrong most ppl in the u.s are stupid now.
Exactly! I'm glad other people realize this because most have no idea!
Why do you think so? Have you seen any evidence for this argument? It could be that, but I don't know... 🤔
@caiquefrancis look up the great reset by the world economic forum. And look up 15 minute cities.
Got my as deg at city college in 84. Ocean ave sucks now too
Wait, OCEAN HAS SHUT DOWN NOW????
Holy hell, just a year ago it was pretty normal looking and moderately active 😶
Wow! In just one year this happened? Tragic.
😮 When I was a kid every Sunday my parents would take my sister and I to a Chinese restaurant on Ocean Ave. The food was delicious. Memories are all we have of a once beautiful city.😢
Went there too.... they had a crab over rice dish for $10
Does anyone remember the old "Phelan Loop" where the 'K' streetcar turned around? What about the old Safeway that was right next to it (later "Grand Auto")?
I used to take the K Street streetcar from Dorado and Ocean to Market and Beale and back. Decent commute while reading the Sporting Green in the Chron.
Dudes! Frisco was great back then. Good Times.
Wasn't that out by city college near beeps burgers?
@@bartonpercival3216 Yup.
Ocean Ave near Junipero Serra really surprises me.
That street is surrounded by GREAT and SAFE RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOODS.
Thanks 🙏 Leo!
Any time!
This is bad... dude...
SF kicked out the working class to make way for high tech. Cab drivers spent their money in SF. Uber spends their money in Saudi Arabia (partly).
Leo what's up man greetings again from Rob and Tim we're glad we got out of there
What a bummer!
Nice job Leo. A very Good Friday to you ✝️
You too thanks
close it all down and rely on your government to feed you. fcuk that
There’s more to sf than this street lmfaoooooooo
@@RayQ101it's like this so much you could take a bus anywhere that was once a tourist attraction and it will be just like this.
Now developers want to turn in into condominiums
appreciate the background
The El Rey Theater has been closed for decades (since I was in high school in the 1970s). It was a Pentecostal church for a long time.
About 10 years ago, the city decided to rip-down all of the overhead power lines on Ocean Ave, as part of a "beautification" project. The street went from a working-class business district, to being pretentious and overpriced. No wonder everything went out of business.
I use to be a delivery driver in s.f. 80s 90s now theirs nowhere to deliv. To. It was a beautiful vibrant city back then miss it
And this is in one of the neighborhoods that are supposed to be “thriving.” I didn’t realize so many businesses had closed down on ocean Ave. It seems the incompetent people at city hall are doing this on purpose
I attended a private school on Ocean way back when all the stores were open. It was a little sketchy even in the 80s, but nothing like this.
Thanks for risking your life and car, ah, and your feet stepping in poo
... so we don't have to :)
Damn, so sad, and so glad I left a few years ago -
I know the area well, having ridden on my motorcycle countless time via 19th Ave to catch 280 - great highway to open it up.
El Rey was an absolutely beautiful Art Deco theatre and venue. Both inside and out. I remember seeing a concert series of Latin rock and folk music there back in 2006
I Love Wen You Say 🗣️(Closed NOw)
Google Streets can actually give people a brief history of most neighborhoods of what the streets used to look like including legacy stores.
Closed Now! Love it.
I am willing to bet if he goes to Lancaster or Palmdale, the aerospace capital of the USA, there is not miles of boarded up shops.
Turn lights off when you leave
Leo. Thank you so very much...!!😢
Any time!
Metal Leo can you explain why there are so many stores closing. İs it the economy that is collapsing? Or is Amazon the reason? Please someone explain?
It's only SFO, Oakland, and Berkeley were most businesses are closing. If you go north to Roseville area, businesses are doing very well. There are no closed shops.
The only people left in S.F are clipped-haired, mean-faced, stocky female gym teachers who drive Subarus or Volvos.
I live in Barrie Ontario Canada and I'm waiting when I can use your voice over "(Closed Now)" Great Videos Thanks
I always wondered about Skid Row and how many businesses they allowed this to happen. So it appears they are allowing even more areas to be no-go zones.
No doubt the cartoonish level/type of theft crimes and open-air drug markets has to do with this decay.
You get what you vote for.
To be fair ocean ave has always had a lot of vacancy and turnaround for decades. More units than business needing apace.
