I actually fell in love with a lot of those derpy/chonky battletech boys while in the process of painting them... helps that I'm a mech fanboy in general.

Casey, next convention paint and take could be a “build, paint and take”. Offload some of the back library and help newbies get into the hobby!
Hopefully the extra publicity helps Slapshot Showdown get over 1k watchers, which looks like is his minimum to fire up the kickstarter.
It has helped a lot! Before Too Many Games the kickstarter had around ~720 people following. Now there's over 860, and around 40-50 of them followed in the last week.
And you're correct, 1k is the tipping point where I've been advised that the risk of failing to fund is significantly lowered. It looks like we're on a great pace to exceed 1k before the planned launch in March.

I think I can explain the battle tech mechs, it is all about the lore. There are battlemechs that we first build in 2490 stand beside mechs that were built in 3150. Then you have the clan mechs as well so long and shot it is like looking at a commodore 64 beside a cool gamer desktop with RBG. The 64 will look derpy same Idea. Add to that they can be built by one great house and that particular leader wants it to look like X than the next leader wants it to look like Y with this stuff added to it. hope this helps explain the WTF were they thinking factor.. basically a bunch of people wanted there mech to look X way and over hundreds of years.. well yer.= cool or derp...
Most of the cool Battetech mech designs are ripped from 80s anime like Super Dimension Fortress Macross and Fang of the Sun Dourgram, while the derpy designs were done by some intern at FASA Corp on a napkin during his lunch break.
That's pretty much how I imagine it's gone since they launched Battletech
The first 12 or so were licensed images from Japanese productions. Everything else has been made in house for 30 years.
Including some of the best looking mechs ever made.
I like how casey says "there are some battletech minis that look really cool like mechwarrior, but then some battletech minis that look just very derpy and chonky" completely missing that mechwarrior and battletech literally have the exact same mechs just renamed. anyway, I still agree that battletech minis are hit or miss, I just find this part funny
I'm thinking more specifically about the mech from the cover of Mech Warrior 2. I have fond memories of playing that when it came out. I got it for Christmas that year, pretty epic.
On the topic of mechs, have you guys looked into Heavy Gear? They're great for mixing and matching/kitbashing. Seems to be quite underrepresented in the RUclips hobby sphere and think you'd both be able to make them shine.

@43:00 It doesn't get better. There's cutting back on extra, but there's no making headway. I just sold an entire kickstarter's worth of the HOMM III models today, because they'd never get painted or played. Sad. So sad.

Sounds like the con was not clear on what they wanted you to do and what they were offering. You live and you learn and know what to ask for next year if you go back.
I imagine next year will be even better, especially with the paint and take doing so well. We'll see though!
I get you guys, mechs are dumb.
Any society that had the technological advancement to create mecha would be advanced enough to have tools and weapons of war better than mecha.
