This song puts my heart and my mind in a degree of remeberence and faith..loved it way back then..still shaking and tearful when ' you don't have to hide anymore!!'
They played my high school lol early 80’s. Legendary Philly local band. Actually just saw them a few years ago. Great live band. They also wrote some hits for other artists (like “time after time” for Cindy Lauper)
I saw "he Hooters - All You Zombies" and I was like "Huh?" And then as soon as it dropped I'm like "Oh this song". This was on heavy rotation in the 80's. Very catchy!
don't get distracted by the use of the word 'zombies'. This is a call to action song. They're talking about how regular people can fight the powers that be, they're calling on regular folks to not hide anymore, come out in the streets and make your voices heard. The people in high places are the politicians and money-lenders that control so much of life. And he says, "the peace is going to fall on you", not a piece of the broken tablet. This is such a stirring song, we can make this world better if we stop hiding and come together. You should check out the live version of 500 Miles by them, yo will love seeing them. Thanks for the great song that still brings tears to my eyes. Love.

AND WE DANCED was another big one from The Hooters, and sounds totally different than this. That mandolin always seems to be heard in many of their songs.
The hooters- All you zombies. One of my favourite songs!. The people who judged, poke muck, and don't believe in others, hold power and greed are The Zombies..." All you zombies hide your faces, all the people in the street, all you sitting in high place's, the pieces are going to fall on you,." All those that judged, didn't believe, hold power and greed, you will come crashing down.. at the end of the song... "All you zombies show your face's, all you people in the street, all you people in high place's, it's all going to rain on you.." stating, you can all face the shame of being wrong... Very powerful song!
According to the Chicago Tribune in 1985, Eric Bazilian, one of the two writers of the song stated the following: "People ask us what it's about ... the weird thing is we didn't consciously put [the heavy stuff] there." Confirmed by Wikipedia, the other writer, Rob Hyman, also told the website, Songfacts, "that the biblical images, including Moses and Noah, were not part of any agenda, though some radio stations refused to play it." Hyman went on to say, "I love songs like that, you just listen and every time you hear it you kind of wonder what's going on." Sometimes, writers DO intend us to get a specific message; but other times, writers just like the sounds of certain words and the moods they conjure without attaching specific meaning to those words as we, understandably, are so often determined to do. We try to understand and start insisting there IS a meaning...of course, often (though not always) championing the meaning(s) we, ourselves, attribute. Providing we don't get too carried away, this is how we as an audience work with the artists in the co-creation of the meaning(s) of art!

Hey Philly. As a fan of the group before they got big for a minute, I was resistant to the re-working of some of these songs. I haven't heard this version of Zombies for quite a while.
Brad, you hit the nail on the head, when you said "religous vs. non religous". Although, "faithfully devoted", like Noah & Moses, would be a better description, than "religous". The "zombies" are symbolic of those who are dead inside because of unbelief. I still have the LP from back in '83 when this song and the song "And We Danced" were popular hits on the radio.
Hey guys what's up! This song is so prophetic. The zombies are the people that won't listen to God's words. Like when he says all you people in high places those pieces are going to fall on you. He's talking about when Moses smashed the Ten Commandments because the people built the golden calf. And he's telling the zombies 2 wake up for it's too late. You guys rock! God bless you! Peace!
Wrong. The truth is, not even frontman Eric Basilian, who wrote the lyrics, has the faintest idea what they're about. The Biblical imagery of the verses came to be just by happenstance, and if there is any connection with that and the chorus, he remains unaware of it - as well as being unaware of who the zombies are and what they do. By his own admission. So there's definitely no preaching involved, thank goodness. Sorry to burst your bubble. No, that's a lie - I'm not sorry, since I despise religion in general, and the US redneck moron version of Christianity in particular. Just an odious cocktail of toxic messages and demonstrable nonsense.
The song threatens with eternal torment, those of us who don't believe in the Jewish blood-thirsty vengeful mythical god ...so heart-warming. I liked this song a lot better before I listened to the lyrics.
Zombies are us as people! Not much to do about religion in this song & more to do about people in high places trying to tell us what to do, what's good for us etc. Noah is a reference to breaking out of the chains & trying something new because if we dont the pieces are going to fall on us! Great song, musically as well as lyrically!

I would have to disagree with most of the comments here.. Having heard this tune a lot in the 80's, my impression is he's calling out to the "zombies" to show yourself and be recognized, don't hide in the dark.. which is not necessarily a bad thing.. Zombies refers to the downtrodden, the homeless, persecuted, the defeated, the suffering, etc.. as Jesus did to try to help the forgotten.. Hooters are implying that people in high places, engaging in corporate greed, are the root cause for a lot of the suffering, and so it exists today.. The call out to the "zombies", is on a positive note, in an attempt to give them some kind of hope..
The zombies are refering to everyday people. When he says all you zombies show your faces. Hes refering to the peace, love and forgiveness of god is available to everybody.

From what I've read, the message is not overtly pro-religion or any particular belief system, according to the song writers, it just came out this way...the same ppl wrote One of Us, which Joan Osborne recorded
The song is about people, especially those in power, blithley ignoring the truth and what is actually going on to further their own agendas at the expense of the world and humanity as a whole. Even more relevant today, if you ask me.
No no no. We are the zombies. The great awakening is upon us. Don't be afraid to say you are a Christian. Do not ever deny the lord! Show your faces or suffer the consequences
All you zombies was a reference to all the unbelievers that were and still today are clueless to what's gonna happen when Christ returns just as they were zombies or lost clueless people living in the days of Noah just before the flood
So Christ is going to return, and what, kill anybody that didn't believe in him, even though he's been completely radio silent since his death? I mean, what happens? Does he take you with him? Are you now dead but in Heaven? Are us non-believers literally dead, or just forsaken and left on Earth? Cause I gotta say, the idea of Christ coming and taking everyone that believes in him away, and leaving the rest of us alive is pretty damn attractive. Here one day, all raptured the next. Dibs on the now-empty church! And if that's not the way it works, and we're dead or actually in a literal hell, your Christ sounds like an egotistical dick. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Hell originally just missing out on salvation and an eternity spent loving Christ? Heaven was the carrot. When that wasn't putting enough butts in seats, they added the stick - a scary hell. Now I can get on board with Christ saying that believers will get a prize, but it crosses a line (no pun intended) to also declare that non-believers will die prematurely or spend eternity in an actual Hell. Now I know what the "H" in Jesus H. Christ stands for - HUBRIS.
Wrong. The truth is, not even frontman Eric Basilian, who wrote the lyrics, has the faintest idea what they're about. Eric Prydz. Call on me. Lol!
I remember listening to this song when it first came out, thinking what the hell is this?
"Johnny B" is also good.

Timbuk 3 "Life Is Hard" (Official Music Video)...TRUST ME On This One.
You guys need to check out Johnny B by them, it's their best.
From my hometown.
Cool song. I still have no idea what the message is, but it rocks
Underrated
Wow great call back. Odd how the song seems as if could have been written today.
Ah, my high school friends. :)
PhilaPa - Yup, I have the cassette.
Check out Suavacito by Malo. It was all the rage

No you'll do it to yourself for not believing the word of the Lord. The one and only Truth.
@@scottstewart5784 Read the bible Scott.
As a Delaware Valley person from that era....always preferred the original version I used to hear on "mmr....I think it was from Antenna......it's been awhile. Never liked the more polished version
It is about Noah's Arc
