It's great seeing Michael Klesch in the circle. Brilliant man. Probably the best brass arranger in DCI history. The tricks he used to use in the old 2 valve G bugle days was almost mind bending. Jumping octaves between voices to cover unplayable notes was always a great Easter Egg to hunt for. My favorite memory from 90 Cadets was the day he handed us about 11 different intro's to the show ..... then him finally saying, "That's the Cadets sound! Throw the rest away.." Just watching him work. Squeezing every tiny nuance from us in order to get the sound he wanted...... I'm truly blessed to have learned from a genius.

Probably my favorite brass. Unlike the Blue Devils, they focus on sound and actually sounding right and focusing on balance between voices which I love. But if they had a better percussion and colorguard, they would be very good, almost unstoppable.

Well, that's not entirely correct. I'm pretty sure the Blue Devils focus on more of a jazz blend, hence the sopranos being the "loudest". BD does have a super strong low brass section though.

Agreed, but most the people that I have met either hate BD because their lows sound very nasal, or because they don't have a good balance so that's what I hear a lot. I personally love the Blue Devils and plan to march the trumpet with them someday, but I was just distinguishing the difference between Crown and BD. I also love BD's brass. Crown just seems more "in the box" if you know what I mean.

+josh 42732 yeah, I understand. Crown has more of a wind symphony balance and the Blue Devils tend to have more of a jazz balance. I personally like Crown more, but I wouldn't mind if they had a screamer to add to their already lush chords.
