Hello Abhilash. Thanks for this great video. It was really insightful. I have one follow-up question. So far I have been a digital marketer, specializing in SEO. I want to expand my skillset and I have found a new love for Product Management. I also want to stick to Saas based companies in the future. I am into research phase as of now for deciding which Product certification to sign up for. I wanted to ask you, do you recommend any prerequisite courses before I jump into Product school certification? Do I need to study anything else or develop any other skill so that it will help me achieve great success with PMC certification? Thanks again!
This course is for the beginners so you don’t really need any foundational courses. Also to be a good PM do consume as much content as possible and also try implementing it and experiment. All the best!

I am wondering If I can get your thoughts on this - I recently discovered product management but my impression so far is that I can be paid well (sweet sweet tech salary), don't need to code, don't need any special certifications/MBA/MS Computer Science (or any specific degrees for that matter) or specific experiences.
Seems too good to be true. Wondering if I am missing something?
A Product Manager is responsible for Success or Failure of the product (or a feature) If you have developed yourself into a certain domain it would really help in being successful PM. I recommend reading the book Cracking PM Interview that gives you a good idea of what is needed to break into a PM role at big tech.
Thank you Abhilash for these insights. I'm a BBA graduate making 8LPA with 2 years of non-technical, non-product experience in India. I find my current job highly unpleasant. With prior startup experience, I feel I'd better off be building valuable stuff by honing PM skills.
I wanted to know if a Non-Tech guy with zero PM experience but just a PM certification make as much as my current salary or do I need to step down to start fresh?
Hi Tanmay, I am not sure of the salaries. Glassdoor might help you do some research on that. Also try reaching out to people with similar background and check with them.

It does make the recruiters eye pop when they see Product Management Certification be it from any school.
The course would help you in cracking the interview and also they give few techniques to find the right job.
They also conduct Job Fairs sometimes where you could meet recruiters.
But none of these would guarantee you a job. It depends on how much you prepare for it.

I would say the Certification will definitely add weightage to your resume and the course provides the necessary knowledge to kick-start your career as PM but I would also like to mention that it does not guarantee you a job. Getting job depends on your preparation and opportunities available in the market that fits you. All the best!

I think it could be helpful. I would suggest check out the list of Instructors in the Product School and see if there is anyone from Chemical Industry Background to make the most out of the course for you. The concepts that are taught in the course are not limited to Software / Tech it can be applied to your industry as well. And do reach out to product school and speak to them in detail, that would be helpful.

Hello Abhilash, Thanks for your review . I am exploring Product school for PM course and I see they have now 2 type of schedule . Option 1 - 5 days consecutive class at stretch. Option 2 - same as you took part time in 2 months times so would like to get your opinion what would make sense option 1 Vs option 2 of class time table? pls help me with your thoughts
Over 2 months option suited me best because it gave me enough time to work on the assignments and also spend some time thinking through what I learnt in the class and to do further reading on the subject. It’s best suited if you are working professionals like me. Choose what best suits you and your schedule. All the best!

Hello Abhilash, thanks for sharing the experience, I have a few questions: 1) is there any course provide about how to perform data analysis (Such as SQL or Tablaue) 2) will student get a chance to build a real product that can include in resume and showing as product they build ?
No the course doesn’t teach you SQL or any tool. They show you what metrics to track though and how to properly crunch your numbers. People don’t build real product but they do everything else that is needed to build the product. This is a Product Management course :)

Hi Amit, 1. This course is not domain specific and all the concepts are generic in nature and could be applied in most industries.
2. No this course is not focused only for IT but could be used across other industries as well. If you join the course, look for an instructor from your industry if possible, that would help you a lot. Write to Product School and they would help you to find the right instructor with experience in your domain.
3. I think it depends on the role and company that you apply for. I may not be able to answer it!

I switched my career from being a electronics engineer to PM 2 years ago. As I already have a 2 years PM experience in a startup, do you think this course is too basic for me? Should I enroll for this course or the senior PM course?
Hi Ruchi, This course is for beginners! But in my class there were few people who were already PMs but they were there to formally learn the basics and to clear their doubts about the processes that they are using currently at their company.
Did you got any break in to PM after the course ?. Usually many opt for course to get the break. Would love to hear about getting break in to PM, how difficult it will be ?
In my case, I have opportunities at my current company itself.

Yes it is worthwhile. Tech is just one part of Product Management and you can pick it up in sometime. There are lot of people who are great PMs and are not from a tech background.

I am glad that this video helped you :) Google has hundreds of products, you must see for which type of product you could add value and what type of product interests you and excites you. Once you have identified that, it would be great if you get experience by working on similar types of products / domain in other smaller companies and keep learning all the while. I am not aware of the Associate Product Manager Program at Google so I can't speak to it :)

There is no fee. You will have to do the capstone project and that is the test.

Anyhow, is it wise enough to invest 3.3lac($4500) INR for 8 weeks course.
Well the same things could be read in a book or in other courses as I mentioned in the video. The distinction is the community and the connects! And the insights which you get to hear from the top product managers. Which highly valuable. And I would suggest start from what is a accessible to you. I started learning about products few years back but still I was struggling with the question why none of my products are successful for a long time hence I chose to get on a course and talk to people who have done it!

I'm currently in a software developer role with 1.5 years of experience and I realise that I would like it better in my company in a PM role. However the constraint is that I find barely anyone who is not an MBA grad is able to make a mark inside my company as a PM and outside they need folks with 4-5 years of PM experience before they can hire. How can I get started and land a role in this landscape?

Is this certification recognised in US market. Other than skills and network what one would be getting with this course , will this fetch any help around shortlisting of profiles too (again very specific to US market only.. )
Usually the first round of shortlisting is done by bots and not HRs (if you are applying through job portals) and I am not sure if it helps. It’s important to put the important product management activities and results you have achieved in the right way rather than the certificate itself.

Product Management is not just about software or tech. It could be any physical product as well. I would suggest you to do some reading or knowledge gathering around Product Management and see if it is something which you love to do and also find out what kind of products you love to work on and then may be take up the courses. This course is for beginners and it could be of help.

I am not sure how much would Indian Companies value this certificate. I believe it must reflect from you in your interview, more than the certificate.

This course can prep you but having access to real time experience is great. Since you are in a product company you may have easy access to PMs and talk to them to see if you can work with them or help them with certain tasks and to get involved and get exposed to PM world and it would be a great learning.

How about pharma product management do we learn something?
I hope the same techniques may be applied but in our class there were no one from Pharma background and we did not expect to learn about Prarma Product Management. So I am really not sure.

@@nishakumari1014 Hi Nisha, I can understand what you are going through. I had similar confusions when I was fresh out of college. The truth in the world is, a company would hire you only if they see you can add value. Adding a course on your resume would help you get short listed for the interview but it wont guarantee you a job. I would suggest along with the course, do work on side projects that can demonstrate the skills required for the positions that you want to apply for. For Example: For a PM, do work on a small side project and apply what you learn in the course. That would help you to a lot. All the best.

Yea! There are many good PMs who are from non tech background. But as a PM see how you can add more value and also see what unique things you can bring to the table.

Yes the course helps in preparation. They do conduct job fairs where you can meet recruiters sometime in the year. I am currently trying to transition to PM role in my current company and I am still in the process! But I do many PM activities regularly. The course helps.
