It did a fine job on the laser engraving I did.
The smoke purifier really did it's job and without that you would want some sort of fan pulling the smoke out of the machine to keep it from fouling the lens.

Papa,
You are having way too much fun 🎠!
Keep the aspidistra flying!
God bless,
Paul
Thank you Paul. Can you really have too much fun LOL.
But yes it is very cool. God bless,
Gary
Good job, Gary! I don't think I will ever stop being amazed by Smart Phil, or I mean, Smart Fill. LOL! I know what you mean about those tiny screws. What a pain! No need to put them back in, though. Also, not sure where I saw it but you can just lay your phone down on the bottom and look up into that laser beam for cleaning. There is just enough room to get a Q Tip in there. Of course, I found that info after I had already turned mine upside down. If you have the air assist installed, you need to pull that off, first, of course. And, while you are at it, might as well vacuum and wipe everything down. Definitely something I had not thought of about an enclosed unit but I can see it's going to be a regular chore. Anyway, this was an entertaining video my friend on a really fun to use machine! 😊
Phil
Thank you Phi and for sure this Smart Fill is almost as smart as Smart Phil!!!
I only put one screw back in but I doubt that was needed. And by now I am sure I have lost the others LOL.
I did not get the air assist with it but the purifier sure helps.
You get the clean up one way or the other for sure. I do like how it cuts the sound down as well.
Lots of fun!!!
Take care,
Gary
Thank You Gary.... Surprise Thursday show.. All of this technology just boggles my peanut brain BUT Gary you got me feeling that even I could tackle this fascinating contraption... Until tomorrow......TM
Thank you very much TM...see ya later!
Congrats brother it’s beautiful.Yes it’s cool 🤙🏽I do love that stuff to. but they’re not cheap. Lol.☺️👍🏽
Thank you Habeeb. I feel fortunate that they ask me to make a video using it.
Take care,
Gary
Do you have any suggestions for dust and fume extraction. I’m looking for something that isn’t too expensive. I may end up building something myself , a cabinet with a/c filters and activated charcoal. Thanks
If at all possible duct it outside. I plan on setting mine up in the back room in my shop. A window will be very close.
Hi Gary, how are you I hope you are alright, I was just watching your new video, and I really think you are a really clever guy, take care and stay safe x
Thanks so much Sue and all my best to you as well.
Gary
I continue to be awed by this technology. Everything you showed was flat. Can it follow a contour?
Thank you Jim. Yes it came with a rotary tool. I just have not set that up yet.. You just need to remove the bottom and use the risers that came with it.
Stay tuned for a video on the rotary.
Gary
That looks fun to play around with. Can't wait to see what you make with it.
Thank you Chris. If I could just find the time I would like to test the vinyl cutting it can do. Maybe in a few weeks.
Take care,
Gary
Very cool Gary.
Would like to see the rotary attachment in action.
Wes @ Piedra Designs
Thank you Wes! Sure thing I will do it in a few weeks. Have a few other things to do first.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Gary
I assume that is for mostly flat work? Is there any way to get it high enough to engrave the bottom of a bowl?
Yes you can. There are riser blocks that come with it. Or you could make some for what ever you need to fit under it.
Bonsoir Gary !
Gary
Gary great review my friend, some of these things are so clever, the mind boggles
Thank you Alan. Yes this is on the high end of clever for sure.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
I was a software engineer, so I understand how all of this works, but I still find it amazing ... the auto sensing of the position, again quite simple to do, but what a time saver ... thanks for the demo, very much appreciated 👍
Yes it probably is a very easy to do software and like you say it is very amazing as well. I use a lot of CAD software and to see how one object can be subtracted from another and leave a new shape is pretty amazing a well.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
@@ThePapa1947 Yep CAD is fantastic, especially when you want to take an idea and actually develop it, nothing better than being able to play about and experiment etc without having to physically do it and invariably getting it wrong ... only make it once you get it modelled right 👍
I have two CNC milling machines and have designed many parts and cut them.
How cool is this !!! Great video Gary . Happy New Year .
Thank you Jon and Happy New Year to you as well.
Gary
Thanks Gary I am waiting to see how it works on a round vase or urn.
Thank you Kevin. That is in the works. I will need to put the rotary tool together and set the machine up on the spacers that are provided.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
i would sure like to have one but just cant affurd it
Thank you Don and for sure they are a bit costly.
Take care,
Gary
Happy new year Gary. Very interesting video 🌞
Thank you Ray and Happy New Year,
Gary
Great review, Gary. I’m sure Xtool is going to see a few of these flying off the shelves. Nicely done, my friend. 👍👍
…..Gord
Thank you Gord. Well I am sure they would be happy for that. I am hoping the next video I do on it I can dig a bit deeper into what it can do.
Thanks for watching my friend,
Gary
Nice new toy/tool Gary!
Thank you Scott. It is a pretty cool machine for sure. Finding time to use it is a bit hard to do right now. But looking forward to it.
Take care,
Gary
Gary,
what a great video. The coasters were cool and Molly our queen approved of them 😸😸and that auto find thing with the tags was really pretty cool
Thank you for sharing your wisdom and your kindness. I for one really appreciate you!!!!
Thank you Luie. Our cats check out everything I bring into the house or every box that Fedex drops off. They can not wait to get in the box when it is empty.
I was tickled pink to try this machine after they asked me...just because of how it finds those shapes.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Purdy slick, Gary!!! Lots of flexibility on what this laser can do. Maybe some day I will buy a laser you reviewed. But I am not there yet ready to buy, thanks for sharing!
Thank you John. I think building up a need for one would be the way to go. I know when I actually have a project I want and need to do it is much easier.
Take care,
Gary
Gary, that’s a very nice piece of kit. The alignment “smart fill” is really cool. Enjoy your new laser👍
Thank you Skip. Yes the smart fill is sure smart!
Take care,
Gary
Well another good video on lasers, all your projects on it look excellent especially the small tags, well done and thanks!
Cheers Al
Thanks Al
Very cool Gary. Appreciate the review. The self-aligning feature is very cool -- it would also be a good way to be able to laser engrave both sides of a piece without having to set up a template on the bed.
Thank you Mark. That is a good idea. There are some lines on the bed. I just try and get something close to it going one direction.
After that it is a piece of cake getting it right. I like being able to change the size in real time. To me that is a biggy.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Awesome video. I bought the Longer Ray watt laser and can't wait to see how I can incorporate it into my turning. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Jimmy! You did good picking the Longer Ray. Those are nice machines.
Did you get the Ray 5 10 watt?
Thanks for watching,
Gary
@@ThePapa1947 I did get the 10 watt unit. There's a lot to learn but I'm enjoying every minute and even learned how to make my own templates.
Fantastic! Fun stuff for sure.
That is such a cool machine...the options seem endless!
Thank you Carol. I like the fact it enclosed and with the air purifier there is no smoke. But I think sticking that house out a window would be a good option. Problem is right now where I have a window I could use it is stacked with things like fishing gear and who knows what else LOL.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Gary, I enjoyed watching this video. Most of the videos I've seen don't show the software or they're using LightBurn. Also, this is the first M1 laser I've seen someone demonstrate - the rest have been the D1. I will certainly watch when you cut vinyl.
Looking forward to the wood turning on Friday.
Thank you very much. I do like the Lightburn software for all the things built into it.
This software does everything you need it to do and what the machine needs,
Very easy to learn as well.
The vinyl has my interest and will try it. Not sure yet how I can use it in wood turning or working but am thinking of some ideas.
Take care,
Gary
Good evening, Gary.
Nice review on this laser.
All the best to you.
Thank you Ray. A fun toy for sure.
Happy New Year!
