    Unless you absolutely need SDI, I don't know why anyone would choose this over the Z Cam E2-M4 which records ProRes, supports higher frame rates, has better dynamic range, and costs $500 less.

    • @heartshapedfilms
      @heartshapedfilms 3 года назад +4

      as an E2 M4 owner I'll share my 2 cents. the in built codec is fairly robust for most shooters and i like the SD-UHS II card slots over the eye watering price tag of a Cfast 2.0 card.. then having a SDI out for something like a shinobi is a pleasure. though I don't need gen lock and Prores is nice though and an industry standard. The M4 also has a nicer body and buttons i feel Lumix have some catching up though they're clearly feeling the heat from Zcam. finally the slow mo is awesome

      @@LatestMerch Seems like the logical choice... although, I sent my S1H in for service THREE weeks ago and they are barely sending it back, hopefully it ships out today (but I doubt it). I sent them very detailed notes and reference images and they still could not figure it out. I am a Lumix Pro Red member, whereas you are suppose to receive a loaner camera if you don't get your camera back in 7 business days. They repeatedly denied me. So what am I saying? Don't be so quick to bash the new guy, because from my experience Panasonic customer service doesn't appear to be all that good. Actually, I am second guessing my choice to pick the S1h over the ZcamF6.

Has a very similar form factor, has the same sensor, shoots prores, h.264, h.265 and raw internally, and shoots 4k at up to 160fps as well. So that is a much more appealing option for many people.

    • @DanielScottFilms
      @DanielScottFilms 3 года назад

      @Blake Byers - Yes - even looks super similar to the design of the Z-Cam. The only thing this camera has over the z-cam, in my opinion, is the SDI out. The Z-Cam has evolved so much over the short span of their lifetime with advanced connectivity and syncing and as far as image quality goes, Z-Cam is by far superior. For the money, the BGH1 lags behind.

      For someone upgrading from a phone or an older DSLR, the larger sensor, interchangeable lenses and better still photography features are probably more important. On a (

      @@sikaheimo That's it, that's all I'm looking for. The image quality in daylight from the AX53/43 or VX1 is really impressive, I am not asking for higher than that. And what you lose with a smaller sensor you gain in zoom range, camera size and price, so again I'm happy at ~1/2" size. All I want is to be able to film and then after slow the footage down to maybe 15fps so it's still relatively smooth but running at 1/4 speed for slow-mos.
      I totally get that camcorder users are a dying breed but 95% of the work is done for Sony or Panasonic, they don't need to design a new body or lens system or anything like that. Just update the sensor and processor in there current models to output 4K60 H.265 and you have a new camera with specs that I think would sale in reasonable numbers for the amount of work they need to put in.
      At the end of the day, no market exists when there's no good products to buy. They can't cry that phones have taken all their customers when they are about 6 generations behind phones! Bring out a reason to still use a camcorder over using your phone and I think there is still a reasonable market for it, 'the soccer moms' and people like that.

      Hi. The market is no longer there. I've been hoping Sony would replace HX400 camera with a newer model that can shoot 4K. There just isn't enough of a market to justify an upgrade. Basically, the market for mass market camcorders and cameras has essentially been replaced by the smartphone. For the average consumer the smartphone is considered 'good enough' for most purposes, and, they are improving year by year. I think there is still a market for the camcorder but it's more niche now which means any new cameras will probably cost a lot more when they finally appear.

I just love it's weight, size, speed, flexibility, versatility, battery life, buffer size, focusing speed, etc, etc.
      But at least you have options, if I was looking to upgrade from the HX400 for similar money I would look at the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ330 (might be called something different in different regions). But this is a quality bridge camera and does 4K video too.

Non of the RX10 cameras have the focal range of the HX400 which I have found great for filming wildlife. The RX10iv has only half the telephoto range. Of course the AF on that camera and image quality is vastly superior to the HX400. A possible alternative option are the Panasonic m43 cameras but Panasonic won't give up on its DFD AF technology which for me is not currently good enough.

    I have to say - that's a bloody excellent review of the capabilities of this thing. I've been assuming webcams will move in this direction - £2k not viable for home use really though. And what streamers want I think is lots of shots, so cheap bodies, not powerful ones. At the moment I am using 1/3" chips in CCTV bodies that cost £80 and with MF lenses that cost £8 to £30. The system is great, but the quality is still low. But I could put 20 different shots in a room for the price of one of these without a lens. I won't get the resolution, which is amazing in your video, but it still comes quite a way down my list, and I suspect, for most streamers. So this feels like it's still for a kind of pro/v high end amateur market. If they think my market is the future and want to get a volume product out, I want an even cheaper body system. A box with a hole at one end and a chip at the other. Aperture, shutter, focus and power going in - data coming out. Everything else should be modular/expandable. Want SDI out, battery in, SD card slots - buy separately. 20 cameras in a room is unlikely, but three is very, very likely - four easily in teaching set ups. I don't know if they want this market - but someone is going to fill it. And the bodies are going to be simpler and even more modular and they are going to cost $250 each I'm afraid - but every teacher, every trainer, even a lot of sales people in the world - are going to have three each. And maybe one fancy one.

    The BIG problem with this camera is that it still has a lower to low light hampered micro 4/3 sensor. Raise the price by a little bit and slap in a better, less noise prone Super35 sensor at least. As is, this is basically a G Series camera with already outdated guts in a square body with gimped SDI ports (the video output specs via SDI are less than HDMI when it should have allowed for Camera RAW output). I don't think I would ever get another micro 4/3 camera because of how often you need to tinker with the noisy footage, and that's even when taking the time to make sure the exposure is right. A bright, sunny day? No problem-o, but start to get past the golden hour look and the footage is noise city requiring NEAT or some other tool... and that takes extra time away from the production.

    So, if you're running a multi-cam setup, is this the kind of camera you really want for that? I would prefer a more traditional camcorder or ENG camera with a small sensor for an application like that...less risk for focus errors with more depth of field.
    The lack of built-in ND filters is a real bummer too.
    If I were Panasonic, I would have just taken the JVC GY-LS300 as a template but added more recording options...RAW, 10-bit 4:2:2, and more slow motion. Make it a more complete camcorder with a Micro 4/3 mount.
    Also, I'm not sure I see the benefit of using a fancy camera as a webcam, at least not for video conferencing. Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, etc. compress the hell out of everything anyway. The cheapo webcam built into my work laptop looks way better just running locally than it does during meetings, so why bother with a fancy camera?
    If you're live streaming on RUclips or Twitch, I suppose I get that.

      Well, anecdotes aren’t data, but I’ve used my Nikon Z7 for Zoom calls and pretty much everyone that has seen the output has remarked that I look “HD”. Just a bit of background blur and a more normal FoV can improve the appearance of the footage immensely.

    • @danieldougan269
      @danieldougan269 3 года назад

      @@Ildskalli Interesting. Maybe Zoom compresses less than Google Meet, which is what we use.
      Google Meet has this fake background blur setting that some people I work with have been using. It's terrible and way too aggressive with the blurring. Basically, the person is totally in focus, and everything else, no matter where it is, gets completely blurred out.
      Maybe I'll hook up my G85 or my OM-D E-M1 Mark II sometime.

      I’m not sure regarding the compression, but the reality is that, at least in lower-light environments, shot noise is visible even after compression, so using a camera with a larger sensor can definitely improve on that. But I guess that not everyone will see that benefit depending on how their space is lit.
