If I had to guess, it would be the thought that being in the sun darkens your skin, so wealthy people used the whitening to show that they didn’t have to work (labor in the sun) for a living. I believe painted nails were originally done for a similar purpose. Nowadays it doesn’t matter & being tan shows you have the time to lounge about in the sun, which effectively implies the same thing.

Someone asked “why would a person have black friends if they don’t like black people?” I actually have a story: I remember a guy wanted to date me, but I told him I wanted to take things slowly, which I had been telling him from day one. After about a month, he asks me again, and I said I want to actually get to know you first, so let’s be friends until it feels right to move on. Specifically telling him it wasn’t a no, but not yet, as I felt it was too soon. He calls me a “fat n word” (the whole “er” on the end). I’m black, he was white.
Also had a friend date a guy and he ended up being a bro nazi or some shizz, so that was the end of that. Yeah, idk why people do what they do, but they do. You can def be racist and date or want to date outside your race

that was the part that made it racist. you can always say maybe she just misworded herself when she said "who wants to be black?" (I think she might have meant that she wasn't trying to be anything that she wasn't.) but her comparing herself as Tarzan knowing full well he was raised by apes and other animals, aka a racist term for black people, just showed us her true heart.
ontxtteredwxngs I agree. That was really the final nail in the coffin in regards to the issue, it really drove home how she lacks self awareness and I hope she can see her mistakes and admit to getting carried away. She really should apologize to everyone she has offended and to her friend who she dragged into the issue, ultimately using her as a pawn to prove that she isn’t racist. There was a lot wrong with this video, a lot to unpack honestly.

It adds a whole new layer to this issue when you look at how many stories like this exist from so many black women. And they're beautiful and deserve to express thier culture and beauty after years of discrimination. It's so gross to see white women try and take peices of that beauty and culture without any idea of what it means. The story about lil Kim broke my heart. Lil Kim is a black rapper that was most popular around the mid/late 90’s. So practically Danielle was explaining how over the years, she bleached her skin and had plastic surgeries to emulate European Americans/white Americans. Kim did this due to being one, insecure with her looks and two, her boyfriend at the time cheated on her with a white woman, which was her breaking point.
Either way, that Lil Kim example she made was terrible and contradicted her point of “not wanting to be Black”

This is outrageous. One time in a game I got bullied for being black and it’s awful. I can’t just wipe off makeup at the end of the day and be white. In a post she made in Instagram ( I think) she posted her makeup artist doing her makeup and they listed all the products they used. Her foundation was a black girl line that catered to girls who couldn’t find the right foundation color. Being black isn’t a trend and it’s not good to be black baiting.
