  • Universal Studios has officially announced that a new Harry Potter theme park will open in Florida in 2025. The park, called Epic Universe, is currently under construction in Orlando and will span a massive seven hundred and fifty acres, roughly the same size as Universal’s existing Florida parks combined. Epic Universe will consist of five main sections, including Celestial Park, which will serve as a central hub. From there, visitors will be able to access four other lands, each with a different theme. These are: the Dark Universe, featuring Universal’s classic monsters like Frankenstein and the Mummy; How to Train Your Dragon, based on the popular animated franchise; Super Nintendo World, showcasing Nintendo characters like Mario and Donkey Kong; and the most anticipated land for Harry Potter fans, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic. This land, which has been the subject of much speculation, will transport guests to both 1920s wizarding Paris and the British Ministry of Magic.
This is the official description from Universal about the land:
From 1920s Paris to the 1990s British Ministry, explore international wizarding communities and the magic that connects them in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Ministry of Magic.
This description matches the rumours that have been circulating for a while which is that Universal’s plan is to create a park based on wizard paris from Fantastic Beasts, also known as Place Cachée. Place Cachée is a secret wizard neighbourhood based within Paris and was featured in the second Fantastic Beasts film; Fantastic Beasts the Crimes of Grindelwald. It’s essentially the equivalent of Diagon Alley for France. The theme park will feature new shops, dining areas and a theatre. There is also rumoured to be exclusive new merchandise. Such as new more interactive wands that will be sold in a unique toblerone shaped wand box.
However the most exciting part of the park is probably the ride. The new ride is going to be based on the British Ministry of Magic. Visitors will enter a large indoor space where they are transported to London via the floo network. They will then find themselves within the hallway leading up to the Ministry of Magic Atrium. This will act as as part of the theming for what is essentially the queue for the ride. Guests will then board the ride vehicle which will be a ministry of magic elevator, capable of moving up and down and side to side through the track of the ride. Harry Potter characters such as Dolores Umbridge, played by Imelda Staunton, could feature in new filmed sections during the ride.

The other attraction in this section of the land is supposed to be a magical creatures stage show, themed around the circus.

Universal Studios should be make a ride about the Fantastic Beast franchise

they should just build more hogwarts - like how the disney parks all have their own version of the original castle. there's nothing iconic or exciting about those scenes in paris - it's just like a regular street.

I don’t think it matters if it’s iconic or not, I think it’s going to be extremely cool. Barely anybody cares about the movie disneys splash mountain is based off of and yet it’s one of the most iconic and loved attractions ever

@@jaykay1899 splash mountain is a fun rollercoaster, what kind of comparison is that? maybe i'm missing something, but i really don't understand what could be "extremely cool" about this random paris street. it's not even like the shops look magical like diagon alley, it's literally just normal buildings. i don't get it lmao

@@yeahiagree1070 I'm specifically referring to the ride thats going to be in the land. It's allegedly going to be really high tech and cool. Universal has been doing really awesome things lately, trust that the professionals who are dumping billions of dollars into this park will make it more exciting than a plain old street.

I was hoping for a real delve into the Circus Arcanus...the potential there is vast, with beasts, tricks, games, oddities, mysteries, rides, etc. It could be so amazing!

I really wish they'd add some aspect of Hogwarts Legacy to the park. like there could be a little stage play where Ranrok fights Sebastian and Ominis or something.
excited about the ministry addition tho

Its going to be weird if they redesign Hogwarts for the TV show. The Universal wizarding world will seem outdated especially to fans who grow up watching the TV series.

it probably was canceled because of the VR room experience attraction in New York City. No reason to build a whole theme part ride for some kind of system or experience that will pop up over the globe and other places.

I am a very big Harry Potter fan and in my opinion fantastic beasts should have never been touched for the theme park. they should have only done Harry Potter, but at least universal did pivot with the ride. that being said, im not sure what the ideal setting would be for a 3rd Harry Potter park. after hogsmeade/hogwarts and Diagon Alley, its not obvious what to build next (the ministry of magic is an option, though it doesn't translate well into an outdoor street with shopping, restaurants etc.)

Very odd they'd continue to push forward with the fantastic beasts stuff. Even amongst the diehard Potterheads, how many of them would have heard of the Place Cachée? Let alone want to go visit it.

Thing is, they don't have any more available and established shopping areas in the Wizarding World. Place Cachée is the only one we have, as we never saw where American or German wizards go shopping, and the Bhutan village wouldn't exactly fit the theme if you are going to be doing a Ministry of Magic ride.

@robertgronewold3326 yeah that's the conclusion I came to that it was the easiest way to implement the shops and restaurants that have proven successful for them in the other lands. But I think there is a problem with the fact that wizard Paris is definitely far less recognisable in the mainstream that Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade.

This idea is obviously poorly conceived, and hopefully they will change it (see below). Reasons against: People disliked the Fantastic Beasts films and Place Cachee was not a memorable location. I can't see the Ministry of Magic being a main attraction; it's more like a good place to put the food court. If the Fantastic Beasts films had actually been about fantastic beasts, there would be so much more potential: rides and interactive areas featuring exotic landscapes and weird creatures. Also some sort of fantastical zoo, perhaps based on the interior of Newt's suitcase.
I have a theory that these announced plans are a diversion, and they are actually planning to base attractions on the upcoming Harry Potter series. They are hoping that any resistance to the new look of the series locations will be counteracted by everyone's relief at the previous terrible ideas being binned.
