I remember when I had this near Hongdae in Seoul. It was so, so delicious, but oh my god I had no idea what I was getting myself into, i was crying through the whole meal and my mouth was hurting, but it was so good i finished it. I then paid and ran across the road to get an ice cream waffle LMAO. The following day was...An experience to say the least.
I was thinking about leaving out the 2nd, spicier gochugaru and the capsaicin myself. Thank you for letting me know it's super delicious even without some of the spice! Will be trying 😍
When I first moved to Seoul in 2006, buldak restaurants were all over the place. I loved going to them with the folks from the office. But, within a few years, we couldn't find one anywhere. I guess they weren't as popular with everyone else as they were with me. I'm looking forward to trying out this recipe. Thanks so much for posting it!
I just did a variation of this for my dad (he's 85), I call it Cheese NotSo Budak. I used gochujang sauce instead of paste and didn't add all the chiles. But did add pepper flakes, the sauce is an american commercial one Bibigo or b!b!go or something like that. I used paprika in place of capsaicin. Also I marinate the chicken before frying and then I fried in butter and when the chicken was done I added Udon nu:ders to the sauce in the pan and some steamed veggies. I did melt the cheese and poured on the chicken. Surprisingly my dad liked it. I will have to do this again. Reason I used the gochujang sauce instead of the paste is that the asian store I searched didn't have it. And he just told me it was the best dinner he's had in a long time.
I've seen MANY MANY versions of this recipe but yours is THE BEST (the chicken is marinated with garlic and chili.... and the amount of chili too lol). I've made it several times already and it's even better each time 😊 I add more chili though lol. MERCI
This recipe has way more heat that the previous buldak recipe I've been using. It looks delicious! I have to try it this way now. Also, that is a GLORIOUS amount of cheese.
Seonkyoung is eating it like nothing, but I'm glad we got to see Jacob's taste reaction because it's more realistic to the rest of us who can't handle heat LOL.
I just came across this video after watching one of Mark Wiens Korea food Vlog. I didn't realize there are so many channels like these! It never ends! I might have one for each. lol
@Jacycat Wong Aren't they great? I'm also a big fan of Mark Wiens! I've discovered so many great shows....have you watched The Food Ranger (traveling), Mommy Tang (at home), or Maangchi?Which do you also like? I just found Seonk Young Longest, and I love her, too! Thank you, Seonk! (Am I saying/spelling this at all correctly....?)
I've tried Maangchi's recipe for this and I can handle the amount of gochujang and gochugaru in that but if I try this recipe...I think I might die. lol
You are a delight to watch. This is one of the best videos of you two. You had no choice but to be honest about your opinion. Your reactions were priceless and said it all.. Thanks for sharing!
Jacob is trying to run from the heat🥵I can’t wait to make this for New Year’s Eve for my son, he has put sriracha on anything and this is right up his alley.
for those who want the spice without killing themselves, I recommend subbing out the chung-yang gochugaru & capsaicin powder with paprika ~ you can get the nice red color without the spice
Please do not compare with each other, because the two are different and wonderful each in your own way! Maangchi and Seonkyoung Longest love love love love
Hi Seonkyoung, thank you for sharing this recipe! Being a spicy food lover myself, this sounds like a great dish! Just out of curiosity: 1. Is this meant to be served as a side dish? 2. Is this dish intended to be eaten with white rice? I see you seem to be enjoying the food but at the same time seems like a painful experience dealing with all those chilis..
You have the absolute best personality to do this and your food looks amazing. Can't wait to try it and hopefully share. by the way I did subscribe and will be showing others. Thank you 😊
Omg my mouth watered the whole time!!! Do you have a recepe of how to make that Thai/Lao chilli oil??? This recepe reminded me of it! I love it! And will deffenetly be trying this one out!!!
push through Jacob. Seonkyoung it looks good. I saw Maangchi do this recipe last year. You just kicked it up by using that super spicy chill along with that cochu.
Thanks for share this delicious recipes. I will try to make this dish this week, but what If I cannot find the Thai chilies, what can I use instead? Greetings from Mexico!!
This looks so good! I subscribed! I live next to a huge Asian Market, but I have no idea how to cook any Asian food. I guess the cheese takes some of the heat from the chicken. I mostly cook Mexican, and that is what the cheese and sour cream is for, but you still get the kick of heat before the dairy starts working. Yum! 😍😋
Seonkyoung Longest...👋! I love watching you!! I also enjoy seeing Jacob and your Mom's visits!! I have a question.... Can I substitute two of the pepper powders with "habanero powder" & "ghost peppers"? I'm a big fan of spicy too (both {fresh frozen} whole in freezer)!
With what can you substitute sake or rice wine vinegar with? Because my religion does not allow these two but I do want to try this recipe. So help me out.
I'm going to find a way to do a vegan version of this with tofu or mock chicken and vegan cheese. This looks amazing and I'll be heading to the Korean market to get the spices. Love your channel.
You and Maangchi should do a video together. Love your channel
Yes!!!
Karritessa I totally agree with you
Karritessa YAS

😂😂 omg Kara you are so brave! Im also not that spicy tolerant 😅
"It's slap yo Mama hot!" Lololol 😭😭😭 Love Jacob for this!!!
In the remaining sauce, I love adding rice cakes! So good.
+Rajon M that sounds delicious! I love doing fried rice!
This is a delicious dish and it's very easy to cut back on the spice. Just use less and add a bit more sugar or some honey :)
It's also addictive. I'm eating leftovers for breakfast :)
I was thinking about leaving out the 2nd, spicier gochugaru and the capsaicin myself. Thank you for letting me know it's super delicious even without some of the spice! Will be trying 😍
This video is fun to look at. All in the name of love Jacob ate his loving wife's spicy chicken dish. Thanks for the recipe.

The first time I made buldak was one of my all-time favorite cooking/eating experiences.
I'm sold for the spiciness and looks delish.
From all buldak cheese recipe in utube, i love yours. Because i have most of the ingredients and easy to follow
I've seen MANY MANY versions of this recipe but yours is THE BEST (the chicken is marinated with garlic and chili.... and the amount of chili too lol). I've made it several times already and it's even better each time 😊 I add more chili though lol. MERCI
I like watching the videos where you and your husband eats together. It makes it fun to watch.
Maangchi posted her recipe for cheese buldak a year or so ago and it's toned down a bit compared to this recipe but it's still really spicy and good
Everything you make looks absolutely Delicious
I love how Seonkyoung is just like... "there it is..." so calm... and Jacob's face is already scrunching up xD

Seonkyoung is eating it like nothing, but I'm glad we got to see Jacob's taste reaction because it's more realistic to the rest of us who can't handle heat LOL.

Koreans are on another level with their spicey food xD. on another note, this is 4 years old? The production level on this video is insane!
I've tried Maangchi's recipe for this and I can handle the amount of gochujang and gochugaru in that but if I try this recipe...I think I might die. lol
When she said "capsizing" (capsaicin) powder, my first thought was: "No doubt that's what got the Titanic!" Great recipe!
