    I used two 4ah Ryobi knock-off brand 18v batteries from Amazon to power a 36v, 500-watt e-bike hub motor, also from Amazon. I took it for a test run and I had some melting going on at the positive terminal on the battery. I used the same 3D printed PLA terminal cap that you used and it was melting and I believe there was slight melting on the battery around the terminal as well. My suspicion is that the battery has a defect, the terminal was not making a good connection (pretty sure not it), or the battery and/or terminals could not handle the increase in voltage/watts? Has anyone else experienced melting at the terminals when running in series?

    I did almost this same thing on my last ebike , i used oth 40v and 18v ryobi batteries . The unspoken drawback is tool packs are not built very well and are made to burn out after while , using it on a ebike to much murder them . On ryobi batteries it typically shorts out the T1 or T2 terminal making the pack unable to charge or be used in a ryobi tool . If you were curious the cells inside are typically inr18650-13q 1300 mah cells

      +Wind thanks for the comment. I think the newer batteries hane a higher mah.. nonetheless, if u draw full throttle for any time, bad times will be had for sure

      your both completely wrong. I've been draining my ryobi batteries for several years now with no drawback on performance or distance with my E-Bike. ruclips.net/video/lowPO1DSo7g/видео.html

      i'm using 2 18v knockoff packs on a 46v motor and after 20 or 30 rides i haven't seemed to have ruined any batteries. barely even a drop in range. maybe i'm just lucky, or maybe a higher voltage motor will perform better.

      @@pluepluelasers152 Do you mean 48v? It doesn't really matter because volts isn't the issue it's amps . If you constantly discharge any lithium ion battery at it's max discharge rate you wear them down faster and run the risk of them randomly dying due to dendrite damage from rapid discharge recharge cycles. The lager the pack the more batteries inside which reduces the amp draw per cell reducing or removing this issue. The batteries used in this are the smallest Ryobi make and are only rated for around 500w . I have personally killed 4 or 5 of these using them in tools made to use the large HP+ batteries i have no doubt and Eike would do the same.
      My ebike has an 80v battery with around 200 cells to dish out ruffly 3360w it discharges at roughly 4amps per cell. For a ryobi 18v (20v max)battery to hit it's target 500 watts each cell must discharge at 25 watts topped off and higher as it discharges. This means it will reach it's max peak at stay there while in use. A properly built pack would never reach that in the first place allowing for a longer service life .

      The issue people encounter with tool batteries in flyback voltage from coasting etc you cannot have any voltage try run back into the batery without being hooked to the charge temp connector

    I want to make a 36v 20ish amp battery to over power a 500 w motor that I have. I can’t find any videos to describe what is best or even what I really need. I came up with these numbers based on the motor. It said it could handle the V and Amps. I understand mAh is Amp but watt hours and amp hours confuse me.

    • @TRYtoHELPyou
      @TRYtoHELPyou  6 лет назад

      watt hours and amp hours are capacity of the battery. How many amps you can draw depends on several things. One of those things is the capability of the individual cells (find the data sheet) another thing is the BMS board. The board may have a limitation. Watch this series ruclips.net/video/b3eRv_FZjBc/видео.html he designs a battery for the application you are talking about.

    I hope ryobi is listening.
    Either and both 18 and 40 v combo on the same bike would be dope

    I'm not sure why you're intent on using drill batteries, the largest battery that Ryobi make is a 5.0ah which is a 5s2p configuration. The runtime will be very poor with these smaller ryobi batteries. You are best off Making your own battery pack with 18650 cells and balance cables. Charging is very simple and cheap with a hobby charger. I was very unsure about making my own packs at first but it's so simple and I was amazed at their performance and longevity

      +W19 ELY nice! I am making it w the drill batteries because i have them. And am curious. I want to experiment . As for the charger, i want something that charges at around 53volts so the pack lasts longer. I dont like thebidea of charging to the full 4.2 volts per cell :( Check out my last video please. You can see my battery spot welder... I have yet to test. Also, wgere do u get your BMS?

      TRY to HELP you I don't run a bms, no need. I use a hobby charger, balance leads and a voltage display and buzzer. What sort of voltage are you wanting? I have experimented a lot for 24v scooters and 32v ebikes. I find that 7cell works well for the 24v and 10 cell works well for the 32v. I have a charger that will balance charge up to 10s, most chargers only take 6s though. Even if you only had a 6s charger you could make 2 separate packs and run them in series (for example 2 x 5s)

      Ryobi makes 9AH batteries now. Also with balance leads and a hobby charger the hobby charger IS the bms

      Nice! Did you get the bigger 50 dollar batteries? That's 30 cells total if so.... Decent amount of storage.

    if i have a 48volts motor how many electric drill battery will i use?

    • @christopherowens2635
      @christopherowens2635 3 года назад

      You can’t. Two drill batteries is 18v-20v. Three drill batteries is 60v. Get a 36v motor. Two drill batteries will work. That’s what I use at the moment. 15-18mph
