I bought the 2009 13” MacBook as an upgrade to my 2004 iBook. Back then, that was a hell of an upgrade and it was fast imo. Unfortunately that laptop got stolen a couple years later, but I ended up getting a 2011 13” mbp with 16 gb ram, which I thought was quite an upgrade itself and lasted me a good 10 years. Now proudly using the M1 MBA which is a beast in comparison

    • @HearMeLearn
      @HearMeLearn 3 года назад +20

the confusing thing about it is that it might look premium, but it's the quality of the material. If they could achieve the same look but make it more durable then it would be more premium

I know what you mean; I feel like these new M2 MacBook Airs (?) will be the modern equivalent of them; they're supposed to come in a variety of pastel colours and be super thin and light and have white bezels and white keys. You had much nicer THICC manuals, accessories that came in the box, free software/trials and just the overall unboxing experience was almost magical. I felt like when I bought a new computer, I was getting something special but nowadays only thing you get is the bare minimum. Laptop, charger, and a piece of paper with a few words on it.

It's 2023, I have just watched this video giggling, having just seen it on the exact Macbook you've just unboxed. I bought mine brand new, back in 2010 for £750 ($950), and the machine is still going strong. However, it is not the original. It has had a new white shell, new motherboard, new screen, new trackpad, new harddrive, a least 3 batteries, and as for the bottom, the rubber came off completely and I now have just the metal plate there, with some black foam feet. It's had been used everyday of it's life. Nowadays, it lives on my desk and stays there, too fragile to really be moved. However, as a amateur author, it is a fantastic writing laptop. For my out and about laptop, I bought and refurbished, a 2010 macbook pro that was sold as the same time as this for about £70 or $100, and I like these old machines, because they are before the time before Apple glued everything in and could be entirely dismantled with a screwdriver. Parts are easy to come by, making them easy to repair. And yes, they are very shiny when new, but as my white mac proved, never give up on a machine.

Still have it as my first Mac and use it every once a while nowadays, the late 2009 model MC207 with the box also. Changed the battery and the charger, swap HDD with SSD and it boots around 21 - 22 seconds. Fan kicks off when plays RUclips in 1080 but doing fine with 720. Still a viable and competent browsing machine though.
What's crazy about it when still using Snow Leopard, I got like 8 hours of battery life doing work in 2010 back then which was unheard of at that time. Good ol' times.

Still got my mid 2010 white MacBook, 2.4Ghz Cor2Duo P8600 with an upgraded Intel 520 SSD and 8GB of PC3-8500 memory. Replacement battery by Apple in 24/01/11 still holds 5082/5770 design capacity.
    Lovely bit of kit

I was a huge Apple fan back around 2010 and the A1342 Macbook was in my opinion the most beautiful laptop ever. Of course I would had never got it back then, but I decided that when I'm older I'm gonna buy one. And so I did. It looked pristine, no cracks, scratches and the bottom was almost perfect too. It was 120€, with charger, RAM upgraded to 8GB, and 120GB (if I remember correctly) SSD. It's more like a collectors item for nostalgia, but it works fine too. Looks just amazing.

Really love these "brand new" from the last decade Mac videos! Since you've already unsealed them and consequently made them "ordinary new" vintage Macs, IMHO only logical step is to use them for more videos! The best case would be maxing out the specs and upgrading all possible internals - even CPUs for models that support it! I think that iFixit would gladly sponsor it, and big views are guaranteed! Please Luke consider it doing. Cheers!

These white polycarbonate clamshell MacBooks are probably one of my favorite Apple designs, period. I bought one of these in 2010 as a replacement for the white first gen Intel MacBook I’d been using since the summer of 2006. With 4GBs of RAM it was the perfect laptop to finish out college and ultimately got replaced with a MacBook Air in early 2012 when I started a new job.
And yes, they did look this shiny when purchased new. And mine didn’t look half bad even after 2 years of use. Thanks for the nostalgia trip!

yep, I used those macbooks in school too. Fast forward 10 years and I have just bought my first ever macbook, the m1 macbook air. I have always like the mac OS (despite my lacking experience) and now I have been able to justify purchasing one (the sheer power of the m1 being owed most thanks). And now I am in the mac rabbit hole on youtube.

Thank you for the great review. I love this Macbook. I've had one since 2009 and it's still working. It still runs on the first battery. The only thing I did was expand the ram and replace the hard drive with an SSD. My girlfriend used this until the beginning of the year (2021) for her studies, until I fully upgraded my Mac Pro 4.1. The Mac Pro was actually only in the basement until I saw your video about it. Best regards

The white unibody is my absolute FAVORITE 😍 iconic. So sleek. So shiny. So smooth. I had one from 2010-2015. It unfortunately 'fell' from my desk (the evil demonic cats had something to do with it) and it's in my mom's closet in the original case I got for it. It got me through college. Memories🤍🤍🤍

I am using a 2010 Unibody right now! Comparing this to my 11 inch 2013 MacBook Air, The screen is significantly better, and the upgradable storage will make this machine not bog down as much with over 20+ chrome tabs. The Air has 4 and always will, and I hope to upgrade this machine to 16 GB!

This is my everyday MacBook. Bought it brand new 11 years ago. Have changed battery, upgraded memory to 16GB and installed 1 TB SSD. Added a skin on the cover and around the keyboard to protect the plastic. Only issue is that it stops upgrading to OS High Sierra but for what I use it for, I could care less. I love it!

This was the first (and only) brand new Mac I've ever had. I remember being absolutely gutted that I managed to scratch up the bottom case so badly on my first day of owning it. Thankfully the recall that came out for the bottom case sorted that out and the replacement has held up perfectly to this day. The hinge cracks were also very frustrating. I had my screen replaced twice under warranty for it, and one final time after complaining to them about it. A few months later and of course it cracked again. I still use it from time to time today though. It holds up surprisingly well for its age and there's still the rare occasion where I need to use an optical drive.

I bought a 2010 MacBook last year and love the design. It had the original battery in it, which had only 18 charge cycles! The case is in very good shape with a few minute scratches. Even the rubber pad on the bottom is in good shape. The MacBook has been upgraded with a 240 GB SSD and 4 GB of RAM, which is plenty for what I use the MacBook for. It's too bad the polycarbonate case is so impractical, I like the design much better than any of the other MacBook designs. I'm now looking for a good example of the black polycarbonate MacBook at a reasonable price.

I repaired a few of these as a side hustle back in the day.. always found them cool .. appreciate you Luke this was dope .. I came across your video a few years back when I jumped from a 2012 unibody to a 2015 15 inch .. didn’t think they were upgradable until I saw your vid on it and u answered everything.. at that point I made my purchase with confidence.. Now I’m rocking the 2020 16 inch for audio production.. not ready to upgrade just yet! .. anywho .. thanks again Luke much love from the Bronx !

Gosh I remember unboxing one of these back in high school - the new Apple smell, and watching the welcome video, having to learn how to use OSX, it was all such a magical experience. I had never had my own laptop, let alone a MacBook which was insanely fast at the time. This video put me right back into 2009 and it's an experience that I hold onto dearly.

I upgraded to the very first macbook pro that had a retina display in 2012, but I've always been tempted to buy another one of these, even used and scuffed up. Purely for nostalgia's sake.

Luke, I did get some nostalgia from this video, when I was younger; these Polycarbonate MacBooks were my Introduction to computers. These and their older counterparts. The first desk desktop computers I used was the iMac, the aluminum ones, but I also used the Polycarbonate ones as well.
But I think I appreciate the MacBook because it was the first computer I interacted with.
This was a nice surprise, thank you.
