    One thing that many people watching Who Framed Roger Rabbit may not realize: The Pacific Electric - referred to as the Red Car in the movie (which was the actual nickname for the line) - was at one time a very extensive streetcar system that served most of Los Angeles County. Beginning in the 1940s, National City Lines - a company backed by General Motors, Standard Oil, and Firestone Tire and Rubber, began a campaign to convince streetcar companies like the Pacific Electric, most of whom were losing money, to convert their operations from streetcars to buses. In many cases, National City Lines would buy out these companies directly and reorganize them.. All this took place at the same time that Los Angeles was beginning to plan and construct its freeway system. The first of these freeways, the Arroyo Seco Parkway - now known as the Pasadena Freeway, was constructed in the time period of the movie.

    There is also several hidden clues as to Judge Doom's true identity. The way he reacts around DIP (especially when it is spilled in the bar), Eddie's dialogue of "how did that character become a Judge?", Santino explaining that Judge Doom bought the election with a large sum of money combined with Eddie's history of how his brother died and the crook getting away with a large sum of money...

    • @PatrickRsGhost
      @PatrickRsGhost 3 года назад +5

      @@MFPhoto1 They also had Calloway in singing the title song in the Betty Boop cartoon "Minnie the Moocher". Not based on any fairy tale like the Snow White one, Betty runs away from home after being hounded by her parents for refusing to eat her dinner. Bimbo goes with her, and they end up in yet another dark and spooky cave.
      If you watch the Snow White one closely, especially with Koko singing, the background changes to match the lyrics.

    Honestly, some cameos I have a bigger respect for as an adult are cameos that are right in the foreground, but have a little significant reason for us seeing them.
    After meeting Dumbo, Maroon tells Eddie that he got him from Disney, along with half the cast from Fantasia. And, sure enough, a decent amount of the characters Eddie runs into when outside are from Fantasia, including one of the ostriches and Hyacinth Hippo from Dance of the Hours, the Brooms from The Sorcerer's Apprentice, and there was going to be a scene of a director eating donuts on one of the centaurs for The Pastoral Symphony, all at Maroons studios. A neat little detail not a lot of people notice.

      My wife's uncle worked on this movie too (nothing exciting he was an on set electrician) he worked on the UK side of things (a little known fact is that the majority of the movie was filmed in the UK, the remainder being filmed in the California/Los Angeles area)
      He also got to work on many other shows and movies. Full metal Jacket, Star Wars, Red Dwarf, Only Fools, Minder, and something called Dempsey and Makepeace to name but a few. I never got to meet him as he died before me and my wife met, but apparently he had some good stories about those days. He even had some famous people who knew him by name because he had worked on some of them on different projects many times. My wife even got to visit a few sets when she was aged between 8-13 as she and her cousin (uncles daughter) got to go with him to a few sets if he got called in to set stuff up over the weekend.
      She didn't get to go to the Roger Rabbit set, but got to visit the Vietnam set used for Full Metal Jacket when it was in production (it was only 5 miles up the road from where she lived - Beckton gas works) she saw it being used for different sets at various stages but she mostly remembers the FMJ setup because of how real it looked. If You watch the movie, you wouldn't know it wasn't filmed in Vietnam but actually on the London/Essex border.

    The buildings in ToonTown are styled after the buildings in the Disney cartoon "The Little House" and were probably also inspired by the Disney cartoon "Susie the Little Blue Coupe". In the scene when Eddie chases after who he thought was Jessica, the doorknob for the hotel door is none other than the doorknob from Disney's "Alice in Wonderland". When Eddie first enters ToonTown, all the 'toons are singing "Smile, Darn Ya, Smile" from the Warner Bros. cartoon of the same name. The dancing thistles from the "Nutcracker Suite" segment of "Fantasia" can be seen as wallpaper in the hotel. Eddie runs into one of the hippos from the "Dance of the Hours" segment. The tune that Daffy and Donald play is Franz Liszt's "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2", which has been featured in several Looney Tunes cartoons, most notably "Rhapsody Rabbit".

    • @zbr76
      @zbr76 3 года назад

      I don't think it's the Alice in Wonderland doorknob. There's too much use of shade to try to make it look as 3-D as possible in the 2-D world of Toontown - like the perch Tweety's on when he's pulling Eddie's fingers.

    Peppa Pig's dad is also in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Sort of.
    The big drunk guy in the bar scene is the same actor who provides the voice of Daddy Pig. He's called Richard Ridings, and is a great character actor and voice over artist, turning up in many movies, TV shows, animation and computer games.

    While I am not 100% certain, I believe the name of the Ink and Paint Club was a bit of a joke and a nod to the early Disney Animation Studio. During a particular feature from Defunctland, it was mentioned that the animation studio was divided into 3 individual groups. And those groups were divided by gender. Of the three groups, the one that was staffed by women was the Ink and Paint department. Any ways, just a theory.
