This is my hometown. My dad was involved in establishing the printmaking the year I was born, grew up watching their work. My brother and I were there when they were working on her drawings several times by accident, and was present twice when they were filming her, we were behind the cameraman and had to be very quiet, otherwise we had to leave. All the people shown here, have passed away. My grandfather is shown here too, my mom's father. My dad also made drawings and carved soapstone carvings and got known for his work, sometimes travelled abroad and got an award for Indigious Achievement Award.

    Kenojuak Ashevak, 1927-2013
    Back in the day.
Back, way back, when I started working in the Horniman Museum Education Department in south London, mid 70s, my boss, Mary Mellors, helped me to learn about the Inuit/Eskimo/Arctic Hunter cultures.
We had this film, which we occasionally showed to student and adult groups. It was a great favourite of Mary's and we sometimes just watched it ourselves.
I loved the wonderful 'National Film Board of Canada'.
I visited Mary, who is into her 90s, today and we watched it together on RUclips.
    Magic.
    Trubba not.

I own this in 16mm, how do you transfer your film prints to digital btw? Also, is this 35 or 16mm?

I believe that the impression of this film is completely inconsistent with Kenojuak’s art, which is not frightening or foreboding at all! Her art is spiritual, but it is uplifting, and it celebrates the the beautiful soul of the land and the people of the North! Life in the North is unquestionably hard, but she is not beloved around the world for depicting hardship and suffering. She is beloved for showing us the beauty that can be found even in an unforgiving land.

Incredible film. Thank you for sharing.
As an aside, what is happening at 8:55? A doctor’s visit of some sort? Can’t tell.
