Rented one of these from Vegas in 2017 (LT version) did 4,000 miles in 3 weeks. Best hire car I've ever had in the US. Worth every penny (cent?) Easy to drive. Very comfortable, not bad on gas, (as US fuel so much cheaper than UK) It cost about the same in fuel as it would have doing the same miles the UK in my Citroen C4. If you can afford the upgrade get it!
4,000 miles in 3 weeks! Wow, that's quite a bit of driving. I'm glad it worked out. I actually like the Suburban quite a bit myself, which is strange, 'cause I usually prefer smaller vehicles. Anyway, thanks for the comment! And you can say "every penny" or "every cent", although I think "every penny" sounds better. Cheers! ✌

100 Rental Cars In the car and truck guy would a min van is a BITCH MADE RIDE unless you a women but for a man no I laugh at am that says a Min van is his ride.note I drive a 1987 all original
Only in the South and midwest? I'd say the whole US, you'll see plenty on the road here in the west coast too...Theres so many of them sometimes I walk back to a different Suburban that looks mine in the mall parking lot. Its like seeing station wagons in the 80's, and minivans in the 90's. I know they've been around forever but Suburbans only in the past couple decades became a staple family vehicle, before they were looked at more of a work/service type vehicle.
I bought the same one after driving a rental. (It's basically the twin of the one in the review, right down to the color.) In fact, I bought it from Enterprise Car Sales, paying about 2/3's of the new car price.
Re: the 2nd row seat: Just pull up on that lever again to tumble the whole seat forward. The strap you pulled is for passengers in the 3rd row to pull in order to exit the vehicle. Just like the lever, you pull the strap once to fold the 2nd row seat back forward, pull again to tumble the whole seat forward. Real simple design. Use the lever if you're outside the vehicle, use the strap if you're sitting in the 3rd row.
At 11:38 you show the storage compartment and mention it’s small. If you keep pulling up there is additional space and the compartment gets deeper. There is a strut to assist with lifting it.
I want this car because it has lots of room because my family and friends come up with me a lot. The gear shift is pretty easy because you don’t have to reach to the gear shift in the middle like a lot of cars. Great Job Chevy
We had a 2016 for a rental last year, black on black, and it was a great vehicle, but of course hard to park, LOL! Our rental had all the driver's assist technologies including a blind spot warning system that vibrated the driver's seat whenever it detected someone in your blind spot, as well as when you were backing up to help guide you into a spot, and it had a sunroof and a rear DVD player. It was an LT as well. But after driving the (much more frugal) 2017 Ford Expedition EL, I prefer it over the 'Burb. My dad, however, feels the opposite and thinks the 'Burb drives more like a car and is more comfortable. And he grew up a Ford truck guy. :)
Hey Vincent! Yeah, this one had the vibrating seat thingy too. I'm not sure why I left it out of the review, it might have just slipped my mind. I kinda liked it, because it would buzz on the left side of the seat if it detected something on the left side of the vehicle. I thought that was neat. As for choosing between the Expedition and the Suburban....I think I'm going to have to agree with your dad on this one. I like the Suburban more. Then again, I'd LOVE a chance to rent both at the same time and compare. Who knows, maybe I'd change my mind.
15 miles per gallon, not a problem because nobody gets these beautiful SUV's for the gas millage. It's not difficult to drive at all. You just are not used to it. You forgot the top of the counsel is where you charge your smart phone and you can have it connected to use hands free with sound coming through the Bose speakers. Let's not forgot the wonderful rear view camera, automatic rear hatch door button closer, the blind spot car approaching indicator, the sun roof and much more which I will not mention.
Oh and I am also going to check out your minivan review/s. Believe it or not, the minivans, esp. if they have features like AWD or fold flat or move out of the way seats, are in the running to purchase for a lot of shoppers along side the large SUVs because families are looking for utility. I am not sure that some mfgs realize that these are not totally "separate classes" of vehicles so the large suvs need to have more family and even camper/rv friendly options than they seem to. And versatility.
The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that it doesn't have push button start however it does have remote start but it would be nice if it had that.
Most of them come with push button start. It is standard with the Premier, optional on the LT. I had to look all over the Northwest to find one WITHOUT push button start. I didn't want it. Just more complication, and you have to step on the brake before you push the start button. How is that more convenient? I got an LT with NO options and I love it.
Peter L well, it’s the whole “you don’t have to remove your key from your pocket” thing. It is less of a hassle to dig through your pocket or purse to open and turn on your car when you can just walk up, unlock via keyless entry, then sit down and turn on the car. If there is no difference, why is there an argument against it? I think it’s just personal preference. It really isn’t that much more complicated because it utilizes the receivers that already are in the car anyway. Also, you don’t need to have a metal key that sticks out, wears down, or scratches* your console if you aren’t careful. You have to put your foot on the brake to even shift an automatic into drive anyway, so what’s the difference? lol.
Great review! I didn’t mind the whole 14:06 lol. Pleasant voice too. Some reviews I just have to immediately turn off. Also, very important that you mentioned the room in the second and third rows! Thank you.
Not to nitpick, but when you say the weight you're more than likely quoting the GVWR. The Suburban actually weighs between 5,600 to 5,800 pounds depending on trim.
I remember it being there on some cargo fans I've driven, but even the new pick ups have it in the center console. Weird, right? I mean, there's nothing wrong with putting it on top of the steering wheel...it just feels wrong.
Thank you for the video. It really helps. Did you notice how they took the extra work to tuck the back windshield wiper up underneath the back top ledge of the back door and route the wires and washer tube etc. The wiper blade isnt readily seen like if it had been mounted from the bottom and dosent look like it will get leaves or debris on it when parked. I am going to see if you have a Ford Expedition EL video for comparison. Thank you again.
You're welcome! Thanks for the kind words. And no, I hadn't noticed the extra effort they put into the back windshield wiper! Sounds amazing. I'll check it out next time for sure! ✌️

Mate, this is the best site re: rental cars in the US of Eh I've found. So here's a question that no one seems able to answer. For an upcoming trip to the west coast for 3 adults and 4 teenagers and luggage, which will be the best for overall luggage space, comfort and ease of driving? A Chev Suburban or one of the minivans? I've had a Toyota Tarago here in Oz and am convinced there's no way bags for 7 people will fit inside but that may have changed. I was looking at one of the 12 seat Ford Transits but frankly that scares me re: safety and handling etc. So now after your review here I'm leaning towards a Suburban from someone like Thrifty or Hertz at LAX. Your thoughts ??
I like the Suburban, but only because I like the design/feel better. In my opinion, they both drive and accelerate basically the same. But....just know I'm more of a small car kind of guy. Anyway, are you thinking of buying/renting one of these? If you haven't driven one before, just know they are HUGE. Soooo much larger than I thought they'd be. 😀
@@100RentalCars I use to own a 07 Tahoe. It drove really nice. While it was in the shop for repairs I rented a 2015 Expedition EL to take on a road trip up north and I feel in love with it so much that I bought one. Dont get me wrong I do like the new Suburbans and Tahoes, I just don't like the tiny side view mirrors on them that GM is using on them.
The last good generation of Suburban. The new one looks awful starting with the removal of the column shiftier unfortunately and I am shocked. I love your videos! I work for National. How do you get cars all the way from Mirage to Suburban? Do you pay for each class or are you Emerald Club with National or what?
eggeorge He rents from Enterprise at a Neighborhood location near Chicago. He reserves the "Midsize" class but takes whatever they give him. He rents a lot from them so they usually upgrade him a lot. What do you do at National?
Disney Fan I am a customer service agent! That is amazing that they have given him a QX80 Elite SUV on a midsize reservation... also, wouldn’t a Mirage be a downgrade? What a nice branch manager.
I do have an amazing branch manager. I rent a couple times a week and all the guys at my local location treat me like royalty. They really are the best. And I don't want to get them in trouble about the upgrades, but they usually "take care of me" with a nicer vehicle whenever there's limited cars on the lot and I agree to drive something like the Mirage (which I actually like quite a bit). Anyway, you work for a great company. Hope you like it.
It doesn't weigh 7,500 lbs. Empty curb weight is likely around 4,800 lbs. Total maximum combined axle weight likely read on the sticker in the door jamb is 7,500 lbs. max load with cargo and passengers.
First off, thanks for the comment Nathan. I really do appreciate it when someone points out my mistakes. It helps. Secondly, I tried to double check the 7,500 lbs thing by going to AutoBlog. That site has some decent stats on new vehicles. They didn't say anything about passengers...which doesn't mean you're wrong. Just curious where you're getting your info so I can use it next time and not make the same mistake. Thanks.
100 Rental Cars 7,500 is the GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) which is listed on Chevy's website and on the sticker inside the car as Nathan said. In other words it's the maximum weight the vehicle can carry including passengers, fuel, cargo--everything except for the trailer. 7,500 lbs is extremely heavy curb weight for an SUV so that itself would be a red flag (doesn't sound right). Actual curb weight will depend on the trim but for 2017 it was between 5,600-5,800. The Suburban is unchanged from 2017-2018 so it's likely to be about the same.
I am amazed to find that even a frickin SUBURBAN is cramped in the third row..is there ANY vehicle that offers as much room in third as in second row??
Lucy Foster great question. I always see them treat the 3rd row like the proverbial red-headed step child. They should have one that has an option for a better 3rd seat.
It's all relative right? I mean, I get 65-70 mpg in my Prius, but the thing is embarrassingly tiny (it's the C2 model) can barely hold 4 adults. What I'm trying to say is, you're right. The gas mileage on Suburban is pretty good, especially when you consider just how BIG this thing is. Just out of curiosity, what made you decide to buy the Suburban?
You're welcome! Thanks for the kind words. What do I do for work? Very secretive things that can be discuss on the interwebs. Actually my job is very mundane, but...well I don't mean to be rude, but I'd rather not answer. I'm just not sure how my employer would think about me doing RUclips videos (even though I do everything off the clock). It's one of the reasons I don't put myself on camera.
100 Rental Cars btw, what is your favorite vehicles in each class? like a top 10 countdown? Also Have you ever driven a Nissan NV 3500 high top cargo van?
+The Home Plate Special My favorite car in each class? Ooooh, that's a tough one. I'll have to give it some thought. Maybe I'll turn it into a video. As for the NV 3500, nope, can't say I have. What's it like?

Anybody know a easier way to get middle seatbelt in 3rd row functioning it’s so annoying it’s supposed to be a family truck but the middle seat in third row it doesn’t go like a regular seat belt i have to get my key and push it inside to undo it
+Cayden Brames Very cool. If you don't mind, let me know your thoughts after a month or so. I only got to drive the Suburban for about 2 days, so I'd love to hear from a real owner.
Nick R Sorta but one difference that stands out to me the most is that the Tahoe offers 15.3 cubic feet in load space and the suburban offers 39.3 cubic feet
I have 2003 with 225K on it, and it still runs great. I am driving it until it dies since the newer ones second-row seats don't fold flat into the floor like the older ones did-- which was a great feature when traveling with dogs. You can't get a large crate in the passenger doors now with the seats tumbled-- have to put it in the back, which is a pain if you need to get it in and out without unloading the rest of your cargo.
The thing I dislike about GM is the price of their vehicles and yet do rather cheap thinking like no push start on a $60,000 vehicle, Wow! Is that overpriced. Even though it was redone recently it already looks dated, and lower level vehicles costing a fraction of this one offers more for your dollar, such as push button start, automatic one touch up and down windows, all of them, vented cooled leather seats, lane assist, etc. And they insist on solid rear axle over independent rear suspension like every other manufacturer has to increase ride comfort, passenger and cargo capacity while still providing heavy tow numbers. It's even rated less then the competition for tow rating with the solid axle. Most won't be going off road with it either so no need for it over the independent setup. But I digress.
100 Rental Cars Yup, a 2015. It usually will only get that mileage on a road trip over 25 miles that's just a flat stretch; but nevertheless still great for it's huge size!
Uh, gross vehicle weight is over 7.000 lbs. Empty weight is 5,500 pounds. And why are you always driving in the left lane if you're going the speed limit?
Uggg, you're right. I'm not sure why I used the gross weight in this video. Probably ignorance. It's kinda a weird stat, right? Cause you kinda have to guess how heavy the passengers will be. Anyway, thanks for pointing out my mistake. I'm no expert...just a guy. Comments like yours help me slowly better at this (watch my first video as a comparison and you'll see what I mean). As for always driving in the left lane? Really? I'm usually going AT LEAST the speed limit. I may slow down temporary when I'm filming, but I do try to not to hold up traffic. Anyway, thanks for the comment. Cheers!
Video reviews like yours are always interesting because it gives an "average guy" perspective. If I can offer one suggestion, it would be to always consider the purpose of the vehicle when you review it. The Suburban is used a lot by soccer moms, but it's also a serious hauler. Many families own it because they can tow their boat, utility trailer, RV trailer, etc. Comments like "buy a minivan, not this monstrosity" are born out of ignorance and reinforcing the real purpose of the vehicle would probably help. Also, the left lane is for passing only. Stay to the right unless you're actually passing another vehicle.

100 Rental Cars They wouldn't get in trouble for upgrading you.
Great video! Which company did you rent this from?
I would like to see you in a 2020 Cadillac escalade and gmc ukon
Great video very helpful
A real key? No way! Cool!
Matthew Baquero that’s what I said 😂
Push pedal parking brake? What is that? A handbrake, but used with your feet?
Yep, pretty much. 😊
That's not bad on mpg... Our 1995 suburban with the 5.7 350 gets 15-16 and 20-22 hwy 4x4 and 7 people at almost all times...
AWESOME !!! AWESOME VIDEO MAN!!! Thank you very very much! Your a rockstar!
No Andrew, you're the rock star! Thanks for the kind words.
Thanks for these videos! What do you do for work?
You're welcome! Thanks for the kind words. What do I do for work? Very secretive things that can be discuss on the interwebs. Actually my job is very mundane, but...well I don't mean to be rude, but I'd rather not answer. I'm just not sure how my employer would think about me doing RUclips videos (even though I do everything off the clock). It's one of the reasons I don't put myself on camera.
can one lay lengthwise on the middle seats if less than 6ft?
+The Home Plate Special Yep, you could. It really is THAT large.
100 Rental Cars That is awesome. I want one!
100 Rental Cars I was hoping youd know. yes a video!

Can you please do a ford explorer because me and my family have been planing to use that car for our trip to new york!!
Sure! I'll try my best to get it in the next few weeks. When is your trip?
Spring 2018
Anybody know a easier way to get middle seatbelt in 3rd row functioning it’s so annoying it’s supposed to be a family truck but the middle seat in third row it doesn’t go like a regular seat belt i have to get my key and push it inside to undo it
Great review!!
My moms getting this tomorrow 😀😀
+Cayden Brames Nice! You got a big family? Cause there's tons of room in the Suburban. TONS!
Yea I got a big family there’s 6 in my household and we had a Acura MDX but it’s to small for us so we’re upgrading
+Cayden Brames Very cool. If you don't mind, let me know your thoughts after a month or so. I only got to drive the Suburban for about 2 days, so I'd love to hear from a real owner.
Was that Gurnee mills?
Nope, but I'm pretty close to there.
100 Rental Cars i live in Kenosha. If you ever want drone footage for your reviews let me know! I like your work.
Suburban or ford flex? What's your pick
I'd go with the Flex. It's much more interesting, comes with some cool sun roofs, and is more versatile. That's me though. How about you?
Weird flex, but okay. Sorry, I had to
5.3 liter V8, wow normally rental cars come with 4 cylinder or V6
Where’s the automatic lever ??
how much does this tow?
Very big SUVs. But the 3 are all identical. Suburban, Tahoe, and Yukon. I think all 3 are made in the same factory
HUGE. And yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if there were all made in the same plant. What do you think? Would you drive one?
100 Rental Cars noway.
Way out of my price range and gas milege is terrible.
And no need for it either.
Oceanic Flight Yeah but the Yukon is better. More features then the LT suburban. The SLT Yukon is a great rental car.
Ey, anyone miss that he likes his heat at 69 degrees Fahrenheit? XD
Would love to see a GMC Acadia
Davis lol
Wish i had this vehicle
lol, that thing gets better mpg than my awd Taurus
I wish the Chevy suburban were sold here
Can you do a Chevy Tahoe?
Sure, I'll see if I can rent one in the next few weeks.
It's the exact same car. He would be wasting time
Nick R Sorta but one difference that stands out to me the most is that the Tahoe offers 15.3 cubic feet in load space and the suburban offers 39.3 cubic feet
They weigh 5600 to 5800 pounds. I think I heard you say 7500 ...
Does this holds 9 people?
The Ls does with a bench Front row.
I have a 2008 chevy suburban
Nice! Are you still loving it?
I have 2003 with 225K on it, and it still runs great. I am driving it until it dies since the newer ones second-row seats don't fold flat into the floor like the older ones did-- which was a great feature when traveling with dogs. You can't get a large crate in the passenger doors now with the seats tumbled-- have to put it in the back, which is a pain if you need to get it in and out without unloading the rest of your cargo.
Beth K. do you know which year they stop laying the seats flat in the Suburban?
Our Suburban gets up to 31 mpg on the highway.
No kidding! What year is it? Something relatively recent?
100 Rental Cars Yup, a 2015. It usually will only get that mileage on a road trip over 25 miles that's just a flat stretch; but nevertheless still great for it's huge size!
You're right, that is outstanding mpg!
Price
Thanks for putting your 6ft. Self in that third row.
No problem! And thanks for the kind comment. ✌
It weighs 5800#, not 7500.
My 15 year old Subaru wagon gets 10 city, 16 highway... and it’s a 4 cylinder 🤣
Philip Mumford damn
The 3rd row seats on these tahoe's, Denali's, Suburban's... 🤦🏿♂️
I want to get one but i care about that 3rd row seating.
The only thing that I hate about this suv is the shitty 3rd row seat comfort
Отличный аппарат!
looking for input from people who have rented or own a Chevy Suburban... Can you tell me more about transporting 8 people & luggage???? Please give me some feed back as we leave next week and are concerned about how we are all going to fit with our luggage.
It doesnt weigh 7500 lbs
Hello Bourbonnais, IL! I'd recognize that parking lot anywhere.
Awsome
Thanks!
LT
