      Can you explain what the difference is? I always see people saying comments like this, along the lines of: “it’s not actually auto tune…” but I don’t know a lot about the behind the scenes of music so I never understand

    • @thomasharris9059
      @thomasharris9059 2 года назад +248

      @@mattlloyd-davies9993 Vocal editing is auto tune but done manually. So audio engineers will very carefully scrape through the vocal recording and remove/mute certain consonants, balance everything, make sure the pitch is perfect, etc. Auto tune takes the live vocals and just fits them on the grid in real time.
      Nowadays all audio engineers edit vocals, some people like post Malone will also use auto-tune in addition. I honestly don’t think it’s all that important a distinction, but vocal editing will get rid of a lot of things you’ll hear in auto tune and make it sound way more natural. People like Michael Buble are incredibly talented but his audio engineers will still make sure everything is perfectly in tune and cleaned up.
      I honestly don’t care even when people use auto tune, I think people are just gatekeeping it. There are some people I really enjoy who use lots of auto tune (like Camilla Cabello) and others who only clean up their vocals for a more raw feel (like Billie Eilish).

      Right! And, most importantly, it has NOTHING to do with the singer being able to sing or not! Most famous singers know their singing technique. You just manipulate sound because you want certain effects. A precise vocalist can give you twenty great, perfectly serviceable vocal takes and prefer to have them combed through to choose the bits they like the most from each to form what in their head is the most expressive, rich and clear take.

    Desde España. Dua Lipa canta bien. Tiene emisión correcta (¡que canta en estadios de fútbol!) y agilidad (es natural y elástica). Intencionalmente, lleva la voz a la nariz para matizar. Tiene tanta voz que utiliza trucos de contratenores, como el falsete selectivo para notas agudas ante públicos masivos. No engola la voz ni abusa del pregrabado: es honrada. Canta afinado, balanceado y empasta con el coro a la perfección. Canta a la vez que baila (baila bien), lo que no es nada fácil. Tiene un buen timbre y volumen. ¿Qué más se puede pedir a una cantante pop? Conforme vaya madurando irá mejorando (vibrato, messa di voce, coloratura). Tiene toques de soprano 'soubrette' aniñada, pero un poco contraalto, mezzosoprano (con la edad). Funciona 'a capella'. ¡Puede con las odiosas cajas de ritmos electrónicas! Es singularísima. Es una diva. No me extraña que los piratas británicos quieran desdibujar su origen balcánico. Y nos encanta que les guste a nuestras hijas (a los hijos les gusta por otros motivos). Estamos ante una artistaza seria.

      Totalmente de acuerdo.., pocas veces se ve tal dominio de los graves, del apoyo en el falsete y el coro para compensar los agudos. Un talento completo tanto vocal como visualmente!! Es mi musa del siglo XXI...

      @@pstflscrdtfgs Pues agradezco tu comentario sobre el mío. Resulta que aunque muy aficionado a la música de diferentes géneros, ha sido para mí una excelente descripción del multitalento excepcional que muestra Dua Lupa en sus actuaciones. Sin lugar a dudas algo único. Por otra parte, permitiste me intruyera sobre los aspectos musicales de su voz pues soy un neófito a lo que aspectos musicales de la voz respecta. Sin embargo, en los últimos tiempos, me he dedicado al estudio de las frecuencias musicales y su influencia en el bienestar de los seres vivos. También la relación que establece la PNL de ciertas melodías y los sentimientos de alegría. La conjugación de ambos factores (frecuencias vs bienestar) concluyen en que varias melodías de Dua Lupa generan bienestsr. Saludos!

      @@JoseGonzalez-uy1tu ¡Que superinteresante, por Dios! Desde luego, la música genera neuroplasticidad cerebral y activa el sistema límbico. Es capaz ella, por sí sola, de generar emociones. Y sí, es obvio que Dua Lipa trabaja intencionalmente esta cuestión. Dua Lipa es instrumentista. Toca el violonchelo, algo nada fácil. Hay otra cantante de su generación que tiene características parecidas, solo que toca el piano. Es armenia y se llama Arpi Alto (Dua Lipa es albanesa). Otra superdotada. Escucha su versión del 'Close to you' del recién fallecido Burt Bacharach o un vídeo que se llama «When you have a 5 min before the concert and your friends are Anime fans - Itsumo Nando Demo», con el tema de cierre de la película «El viaje de Chihiro». Quien crea que estas cosas no son excepcionales, se equivoca y mucho. Un abrazo.

    She might not be the singer with the most flamboyant vocals around, but she got a nice instrument and she use it well. Thats already more credit than most can claim in the industry!

    She's amazing and so talented. This title is probably right as there's no detectable auto-tune however there is EQ, low cut off, a limiter and most importantly, COMPRESSION. Which what gives the radio ready audio quality everyone is so used to hearing. Just like everyone is used to hearing the sound of the Neaumann microphone.
    She's absolutely gorgeous and talented.

    I have loved Dua's voice ever since I first heard it because she has a natural and incredible voice that is also unique in some ways, esp. that it's deep, sexy, and crystal smooth for a female singer. The fact that she is also stunningly beautiful is icing on the cake. Dua's voice doesn't need autotone. Unlike so many singers today, she's the real deal. Her voice is natural, sultry, and beautiful. She's also a gifted entertainer which I'm guessing she got from her father who is also a talented singer. I esp. like her earlier songs, they just seem more about her voice and her personality.

    Very natural🎶🎤🎶🎤💯. Dua does not know what autotune is, and for goodness' sake, can't you hear peeps, When Dua is singing, it's also 1000 percent obvious that her singing voice is also her speaking voice, and FYI Dua alwasy uses her natural chest voice, not a falsetto or even a head voice, it's natural singing and speaking voice. This is unquestionable.

      @BrantK147 She has credits on Levitating, Don't Start Now, IDGAF and Houdini btw, New Rules is her only hit iirc that she didn't write

    • @Sc-Runner
      @Sc-Runner 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@iamgholden yes she has credits. She doesn’t write her own songs, saying someone writes their own songs implies they do it single-handedly. If you read interviews with people like the other people getting writing credits on her songs (eg people who make a living solely as songwriters) then you’ll know a big star can get a writing credit for literally changing a word. It makes the singer more credible to have a writing credit.
      The real songwriters can’t really fight it because if they did they may get a reputation and other big stars may not want to work with them. Plus they know giving up a small percentage of the writing credits can be made up 100 times if the song becomes a big hit. So a writing credit for a big singing star does not necessarily mean their contribution was significant. Dua is awesome but as far as I know she doesn’t even play an instrument, so I don’t see her coming up with chord changes.

    in reality, an artist like her doesn't require much "autotune"
    the type of music she creates usually calls for very grand, cinematic, and atmospheric effects, therefore the technical editing and effects on her vocals will always be present to enhance the production, however for the most part there is not much difference between a raw performance such as this one and her fully produced tracks. at the end of the day, dua lipa is a great vocalist with or without all the editing and this is a great example of that.

    People often say "he/she doesn't need autotune", they are great etc for their favourite singer. Ofcourse they sing great without autotune, there is a reason they are singers - they sing well. The purpose of autotune is not to make a guy who couldn't sing into a singer, its to make great singers sound even more amazing. There is a reason they use it when they are recording songs.
