Im a volvo tech, i only came here to see the comments calling it stupid, or a pain in the ass. But this video is honestly perfect, and has better instructions then volvo's
Wow! thank you so much! I have a Volvo C70 and I would not say that I'm a car guy but your instructions definitely boosted my confidence so that I can do this for myself versus $100 minimum charge at the dealer.
At 72 years old this will be a job for my local garage ! Serviced the car myself recently, but draw the line at replacing that awkward filter, can't be struggling like that !
Possibly one of the most challenging jobs I’ve tackled on a car in years! RHD model and eventually had to unplug ECU and drop it down, however access was still impossible, strange with a car that has a full dealer history it would appear this filter had never been changed, I wonder why? Thanks for the video. Regards from Scotland🚗🚗
Had a look through your video to help me out. With mine being a UK model, cabin filter location was on the passenger side. Did this make it easier? Definitely not! 😂 involved removing the CEM unit and it’s housing bracket to get to it, but all in all took about an hour. Thanks for your great walkthroughs :)
I am following suit as well. Just picked up a 08 C30 T5. Planning out the maintenance schedule to get all these jobs done (filters, plugs, etc.). These videos are giving me a great peace of mind before tackling the work.
For RHD, it's still a headache to replace. To get access to those bolts, you'll need to remove the passenger side fuse tray beneath the glovebox. 1. Lower the tray by loosening the two wingnuts 2. Disconnect the wiring harnesses from the fuse tray, remembering which colours go where. Most have levers to release and replace them. 3. Maneuver the fuse tray forward out of the bracket so it is no longer in the way 4. Optional: Remove the bracket by removing the two nuts. Now you should be able to get to those three bolts holding in the cover to the cabin air filter
@@4DIYers please consider pinning this to the top of the comments for hopefuls like me thinking right-hand drive would be easy :) overall great c30 content!
For all you guys complaining about The Volvo guys beeing bad engineers. This is a Ford design. Everywere you read it says FoMoCo (ford motor company) The procedure on a ford focus is exactly the same, uses the same filter. Even the stupid door for the filter with 3 screws is identical. Stupid fucking ford engineers, I just went through this on my beloved Volvo V50 and I swore a lot thinking that this is typical ford stupidity, and I was unfortunatley right after a bit of research. 😂😂😂 Thank god for the 2,4 liter, 5 cylinder Volvo engine i have in mine. Love this engine
Great video and commentary. I own a C30 2010 model and would love to see a video on installing a Bluetooth system that allows audio music streaming. Hacking the existing handsfree would be ideal, or at least a mod that doesn't look too messy/aftermarket..
Thank you! Unfortunately mine is an 07, so it doesn't have the handsfree feature. You might be able to install a Grom system. I have an MP3 cd player which is all I use, I don't even use the AUX port behind the waterfall.
I just got my C30 yesterday with BT. However I know there are BT receivers on ebay for $10 or less you can buy that come with a dual 1/8" plug. Plug one end to the receiver, the other into the 1/8" jack on the car, then use your phone to connect it to the receiver. Set the cars audio source to the audio jack, and you'll be able to play music from your phone into the car. My Samsung S7 has a low volume output but I'm about to test the cars Amp using a USB stick and my 1/8" jack.
Thanks for the demo buddy, a quick question if I may, my cabin is full of fumes when running the heaters (fine when heaters are not blowing) in your opinion would you consider this the cabin filter (just before I go through what you did here 😂). Thanks again 🤞🏻
I lost the bolts from the filter cover. could you please tell me what diameter pitch and length of bolts are used there. or just a bolt pattern. Thanks.
Hey I know this is super late but they’re the same bolts that hold your skid plate on the bottom of the car. My cabin air filter luckily had been serviced by the dealer and they replace the 3 screws with one wing nut screw
@@4DIYers It's really not that bad but it's under the windshield apron and you have to remove the wiper arms. And fitting the plastic apron back into place can be annoying. Being outside the cabin those filters get really nasty too.
However difficult you think this will be it will be harder. Im not exsperienced with mechanical things but I have child sized hands and im only 27 but i could barely get my hands and a tool up here to turn the ratchet and get the pedal and the top air filter bolt is a nightmare to put back on. In the end i feel accomplished and have AC but not for the faint of heart.
Thank you for the feedback and happy to hear you were able to do it. This job definitely takes loads of patience and it makes other repairs seem much easier lol. If you're seeking additional repair videos for this car, I have plenty more, along with some being released in the future too.
You said right hand drive would be easier.Well, that's not entirely true.Instead of playing with the acceleration pedal, you have to take the fuse box down and then you need to take the fuse box holder holder so you can replace the air filter
The first time I was doing it I thought that this is impossible to be that complex and badly engineered. My back and hip hurt for days after that "easy" procedure. Now I am procastinating the next change as much as possible.... :)
Helpful! If you are RHD you don’t need to remove the pedal but you will need to unbolt the fuse box (two plastic screws). The fuse box bracket can be a bit of a pain, but I would leave it in and persevere!
My buddy is replacing his now, and I didn't believe him when he said it's recommended to REMOVE THE GAS PEDAL to replace the cabin air filter...Like, why? That wasn't the best option, but somebody signed off on it anyway...
Three tiny screws & bolts, that’s ALL? Two get loosened and ‘adieus amigos’?? I assumed that per-design, the pedals require MORE securing measurements… Besides an Uber-ridiculous placement of a cabin air filter - the vision of 3 little screws (why only 3, not 8 or 10?)(Personally, I’d be ok with 30). The cabin air filter is soooooo-secured - it takes an hour to fish it out; but THE pedals, separating life from death, deserved 3 tiny screws - that’s all…? Hmmmmmm
@@ArtistIrinaSharie haha good humor, i changed mine yestoday, remove 3 nuts from gaspedal wire off 10min, only had 1 screw on middle at filter cover 7mm so easy out with that and filter out, but it was with the arrow pointing to the front = wrong flow direction and was screezed the wrong side up n down, so had a laugh about that and put in a new filter after some vaccum work and finished it up 30min for a first timer not so bad.
