I will never understand why he thinks this is only his 5th best song.
cos he also wrote Scenes from an Italian Restaurant :)
Agreed, Songwriter, I appreciate...wow, I need this to share with everyone; when will you realize Vienna what's for you? Lets slow down...We have such an amazing world to live in, put your phone away and take a minute to realize, the world may not wait for you to wake from the thief which is the internet.
It is weird but me and a friend were discussing his best songs, and there’s so many, we actually can’t rank them, I love so many of them
Jacob Jester what does he think his first best song is?
Melody Scuppa he said his favourite was scenes from an Italian restaurant
I’ve heard this song so many times that I could actually hear the accordion solo.
DITTO!!
@@MargotDeux Billy Joel all the way😌
The first time I heard this song I thought it was the most beautiful thing I ever heard.
Michelle Powell I thought the same thing. I got goosebumps and started crying. Don’t know why but I did.
Perhaps listen to Billy's others songs Everybody Had A Dream, I've Loved These Days, Nocturne (instrumental), Souvenir (the intro part is at the beginning of this video) and Where's The Orchestra.
@@seanscanlon9067 thanks fo the recommendations , I will to those ! ❤
Still is even after the 100th time
It still is, too
Why am I crying? Jesus Christ Almighty
Billy Joel voice hasn't change at all! His latest concerts still sound the same!
He’s awesome. Age always prevails but he has seamlessly transposed his songs down to be comfortable. Still sounds amazing
What amazes me about Billy Joel is how great his live performances are, it truly shows that he has raw talent, and not just access to editting software. One of my favourite songs, this is great.
billy got an incredibly amazing voice...
I've seen interviews where he says he doesn't think it's that great. I think he's one of the best
Oh man, this might be the greatest version of this that I have heard.
“there’s an accordion solo”
No, I actually really like this version, too
Pinkerton!
@@LeterPerman Hell yeah! Man, I haven't watched this in 2 years... Thanks for reminding me to!
Awkward Me haha no problem
@@LeterPerman Pinkerton, rdr2?
I love this performance because of the singing in it. It’s in the original key I do believe but it’s close to the transition period where his youthful voice is starting to fade and the richness of his more weathered voice cuts through giving the words more sense of experience rather than wonder. Just a good vocal piece.
you couldn't of said that better
You nailed it, such a perfect description of what we are hearing here. It’s one of my favorite live performances of his I’ve ever seen
yea we can clearly see he was beginning to struggle hitting those high notes
one of the greatest singer song writer...
Billy makes his vocal register changes so well, people don't realize how hard they are. And, btw, this is truly one of his greatest songs; it has not aged at all.
Time will prove, one of the greatest to ever live...
I was blessed to see Billy in Cincinnati in Nov. '93 River of Dreams Tour...then August 6, 94 with Elton John at Ohio State...then February 18, Corestates Center, Philly...and Philly again sometime before 2001.
The Feb 18, '98 show...was Billy, a few years after River of Dreams Tour ended...and he STILL HAD IT. His voice was crystalline. He hit the same notes, but the treble part of his voice had now...mellowed for lack of a better word, sorry. It was as good as I've ever heard Billy sing. As usual, he left his throat on the stage. Love this Man.
2023 and Im here. This song speaks to my soul and when I feel lost and tired i come here to listen to this masterpiece
Im 20, dont kbow what to do, i always come back to this song!
2024, and will always keep this one in my playlist. Forever.
I’m gonna be that guy that never got to see this man perform. And it makes me sad.
I thought I wouldnt see Prince but it happened 2014. The most incredible experience I am happy to take with me til my last breath
I think he’s performing in Arlington, Texas on October. Idk where you live but just thought i’d let ya know
Michael Persico Long Island represent?
Go if you can. He's got a few shows in different parts of the U.S. this year and a residency at Madison Square Garden. It was on my bucket list to see him and he and the band are all amazing. It's an experience you need to have if there's any way you can. To see Billy Joel in concert was on my and my mother's bucket list and it was so much fun we put it back in the bucket. Come to think of it...where are you? I'm in Colorado right now but considering a road trip or a greyhound ride to go to a show somewhere this year. There's got to be a way for you to see him.
I saw his 6th Fenway Park performance in 2019 (my wife's B-day present to me) - We had seats along the 3rd base line so we could see a lot of the Boston nighttime skyline while Billy was performing - Billy did a 5 song encore - It was a magical night! :D
18 years after the original recording, and there was no decline in his voice. Sounds exactly the same.
What a voice and talent in one single man
What a beautiful conversation with his Dad. My Dad is almost gone and I can imagine something like this in my life.
My favorite song and this is probably my favorite version of it.
I agree. This is one of the best versions of Vienna I've heard Billy sing.
His voice ages so well
I’m happy to know he was there with his dad. Makes me happy for both of them. And this song has been a favorite of mine for over 35 years.
There is quite simply no limit to this mans talent he is a godsend to music
How can a man sing like this. If i was him id be singing my fast food order lmao
The guy who said ‘can you sing State of Mind’ he’s gonna be happy either way, all of Mr Billy Joel’s songs are gold.
One of the best single performances of any song ever. Outstanding!
damn. i just amazed
THIS might be the best recording ever of this song
Love this version so much ! Billy your an amazeing talent . RocK oN !
I love how many musicians have so much fun changing things up for live performances. I know that some of the parts are just too difficult for them and they are therefore changed, but many musicians are pretty creative doing that
I really hope one day I can be able to get tickets to one of his shows before he stops touring.
The first concert I ever went to was Billy Joel in New Haven, Connecticut, US. He had the crowd in the palm of his hand and we loved every minute of it. His live performances are legendary
Look at his song book. So amazing.
the grand master!
This song is my fav. The he says this is for my father. I feel ya Billy. This was the first album I bought with my own money For me, there’s so much more to the story. Thanks for the song and the music
Love this version of Vienna, easily my fav of Billy's songs
Such an talented man.
Thanks Billy for this kind of songs.
This is the "Vienna" song, Billy Joel's 1977 album The Stranger, released as the B-side to his "She's Always a Woman" single
Vienna was a B side? wow
Love the way he sings the second verse
Just genius.
When he says “why are you still so afraid?” It hits me so hard cause I know why I’m still afraid, I’m sure some of us have the same reason why we are so afraid and others have different reasons but all in all we are all afraid... and it sucks cause we feel alone in this but we aren’t alone we have God and Billy Joel’s music
I think it's one of the greatest songs of all time by ANYBODY
Voce spettacolare, sei il migliore. Una leggenda!!!
lovely, if everybody listened to this kind of music world would be a more peacful place
This is one of my favorites!!! It is so hard to pick a favorite from him though!!
Some great sound engineers bringing this performance to its full potential.
Man that range on his voice is incredible
Most beautiful version I 've ever heard!!!
You are my songwriter. I wish I heard you earlier; you made me see so much. I adore what you gave me Billy Joel; YOU ROCK and make me feel alive and not alone; you get me.
Thank you ❣️
vocal is soooooo clear. love you billy from Manila! - Listening til forever :)
Billy can shred piano but he knows when to just lay back on block chords and let the melody breathe. Such a wildly talented bloke. Beautiful song
Love this song. Love Vienna. had the album (the hardbound 4 disc collection), where he played this at Columbia University and had Q&A. He was hilarious. Then he sang this song and his voice was incredible.
This performance actually made me tear up, it is that beautiful
My favorite Billy Joel song
Definitely one of his best songs along with Summer Highland Falls. I’m glad he also recognizes both songs as some of his best work!
best song there is its speaks for so many people
Absolutely brilliant
Love the accordion solo!
Jackson, take time to listen to the intro and then, REALLY LISTEN. You have to love yourself...you are LOVEABLE
Awesome..
Sensational
Genius.
The varsity choir sang this at my sisters graduation today, i cried just a lil
The best singer go throw the time, nothing stop him to sing. Thank for this video.
Absolutely the best version I’ve heard so far!
👏👏👏👏 They sure talk alike, don't they?
This describes my super chaotic life madness, including Vienna and the thoughts that that I heard only through songs, while wanting only my Mtv and the current life in L.A., but not wanting to die like Falco
You're doin' fine !
You can't be everything you want before your Time
Jackson, you have so much to learn & experience...here you go.
Charles Alexander Joel... Billy's half-brother (born in London, England, also where Billy's mother, Rosalind, was originally from) who was a famous composer, like their shared father, Helmut ("Howard") Joel. It was also he that introduced Billy to Korean-British pianist Richard Joo, who played piano on Billy's 2001 classical release, _Fantasies and Delusions._
As chance would have it, the _Fantasies and Delusions_ album was actually recorded at the renowned Konzerthaus in Vienna, Austria!
Music at it's best, and sound quality is excellent for 480p
One of my favorites.
The best version of one of his best songs
stellar !
Made my day!
Genius!!
💎
It gone even better without the accordion solo, specially when he plays fortissimo.
Im seeing him in October! I can’t wait for him to perform this song ❤️
woah thats cool he sang it so perfectly in front of his brother
BunBun and his dad who he wrote the song for
It's ridicules how good this song is.
Slow down you crazy child
You're so ambitious for a juvenile
But then if you're so smart tell me,
Why are you still so afraid? (mmmmm)
Where's the fire, what's the hurry about?
You better cool it off before you burn it out
You got so much to do and only
So many hours in a day (Ay)
But you know that when the truth is told
That you can get what you want
Or you can just get old
You're gonna kick off before you even get halfway through (Oooh)
When will you realize... Vienna waits for you?
Slow down you're doing fine
You can't be everything you want to be before your time
Although it's so romantic on the borderline tonight (tonight)
Too bad, but it's the life you lead
You're so ahead of yourself that you forgot what you need
Though you can see when you're wrong
You know you can't always see when you're right (you're right)
You got your passion, you got your pride
But don't you know that only fools are satisfied?
Dream on, but don't imagine they'll all come true (Oooh)
When will you realize... Vienna waits for you?
Slow down you crazy child
Take the phone off the hook and disappear for a while
It's alright, you can afford to lose a day or two (oooh)
When will you realize... Vienna waits for you?
And you know that when the truth is told
That you can get what you want or you can just get old
You're gonna kick off before you even get halfway through (oooh)
Why don't you realize... Vienna waits for you?
When will you realize... Vienna waits for you?
Doug Voice
I always cry when I hear this song.
How cool is it that, 40 years after the end of the Nazi Holocaust, a Jewish kid from the Bronx can return to the birthplace of his father - which was also the epicentre of the greatest criminal organization in human history - to a packed crowd, to perform his own brand of musical magic? It gives me hope.
Hat's Off.
i need that book
2:08 geez that speaks truth tho
"There's an accordion solo..."
Funny to me. Billy Joel has always described himself as a song writer.....not a musician nor a singer. I don't think that is false pride. I really think he knows how good he is....who wouldn't at his level??.. He knows he is on the top tier. This is a special individual who the world has been graced with. Yep ....Liberty Devito has another story and I understand that....We can only speculate what the truth is. My personal and final analysis is.. we have been lucky to have an extraordinary library of songs that will not be repeated...and how could they be??
Liberty devito?
Hot damn!! That last refrain 3:15. Wooo!
his voice...
Amazing
Holy crap! Their speaking voices sound almost identical! Have they ever sung together on stage?
vienna is my no 1 billy joel music ~
My name is vienna I love u billllly
Sensacional
A Jewish young man from Long Island plays a song called Vienna in Nuremberg. This is a historical irony of massive proportions.
Omg wow
He is a quirky person, but darn.....he is talented.
one of the most beautiful songs ever , and not only because i am from vienna hehe ;)
musica perfeita...
Before she was born....
