Bromley To The Jurassic Coast On Buses - Day Out (27/06/24)

So I've finally done another day out summary and this time I went from Bromley all the way to Exeter via the Jurassic Coast on just buses. It was definitely an amazing journey and also my longest ever trip taking 18 hours on the buses and 23 hours overall which is crazy lol. I managed to ride some amazing routes along the way and a couple interesting buses here and there too. I also got to see places like Lyme Regis and Sidmouth which I have many memories of from when I was younger. Enjoy!

1:02 730+731 to Basingstoke via Frimley
1:33 76 to Andover (Voith Solo SR which was interesting)
1:56 activ8 to Salisbury
2:34 29 to Shaftesbury (A very cool route, basically 90% tight country roads)
3:06 Shaftesbury
3:10 CR7 to Blandford Forum (I was lucky to get this Pointer)
3:38 CR8 to Weymouth
3:57 X51 to Lyme Regis (Probably one of the most stressful bus rides I've ever had. The bus arrived from the inbound journey arrived 30 mins late but it went back to the garage due to a broken mirror. When it finally returned we left still 30 minutes late meaning that I would miss the following connection in Lyme Regis by a couple minutes and I was just hoping we'd make up some time..)
4:23 378 to Seaton (And this was probably the luckiest moment I've had during a trip like this. According to bustimes.org the 378 consistently leaves on time and I would've missed it thanks to the late X51. However, it left 15 minutes late meaning my journey could continue!)
4:39 9A to Sidmouth
4:55 9A to Exeter
5:09 Exeter
5:12 GWR to Paddington
5:24 Bakerloo + Victoria Lines to Victoria
5:29 Last Southeastern train of the day to Bromley South (home !)

Mad trip, I have had a similar thought about a day trip using buses to the Jurassic Coast from Croydon but always got stuck in planning after Southampton / Bournemouth. It’s good to see how you managed to go a different way & avoid the new forest area completely

Yeah the first stages of this plan was also via Bournemouth on the X3 but that only got me as far as Lyme Regis but when I redid the plan using the earlier 731/730 it worked all the way to Exeter luckily

Would like to do something like this one day, normally I just get a train somewhere then try some different buses and head back. I know the lack of sleep would take its toll on me though lol. Enjoyable watch nonetheless
