Im a male just under 30 and I found a ton of really useful information here grounded in research and consisely explained. Thank you so much for uploading it in long form for us ❤
I'm 58. I was cycling 100 miles a week and fasting for about 18 hours every day. I felt great but i had an overhanging stomach and was more than a stone overweight and couldn't figure out why. Turns out I was exercising too much and not eating enough. I started eating more, including protein (I hadn't realised how little protein I was eating) and did resistance training with dumbells 4 times a week. I cut down on the fasting, which basically means I simply skipped breakfast. It was scary, eating more than I had in years! But it worked. After all this time!! Stomach is gone. I can hardly believe it! We need to fuel our bodies so they feel safe in dropping fat, otherwise we are slowing the metabolism and in emergency mode the whole time. Try it, it really, really works! Save the fasting for just every now and then, while nourishing well the rest if the time. And I didn't eat HUGE amounts of protein, either. Just around 80g per day, which is less than recommended, but it was more than I'd eaten for years and years. I hate to think of the muscle I lost without realising. Edited to add: im not on HRT. i mention it because I'm often curious about other women.
You still skip breakfast only having two meals a day? Im postmenopausl and want to be able to sleep well and get enough protein in and at the same time lose 15 lb. I'm 41 also.
@@annelovesadoption4714 yes, that's what I do. But it's more the fact that over the time I'm eating, I'm eating more than i did before. I found a longer fast, say 3 days, but only a couple of times a year, helps in the short term. But in order to get the most from a longer fast we have to have fixed our metabolism first.
@@Gingerinthesouth I hope it works for you. Sometimes I think it's just a case of finding what works for us as individuals, given everything about us, like what our previous habits were, not just our age or stage of life. That can make it a bit trial and error (I was amazed that I could eat more and exercise less!) But the important thing is that we CAN do it, and to try not to lose heart. We can adjust our expectations and mske it BETTER than we had thought. Have a great weekend!
Hello, sorry to bother you, but to be honest, we haven't met before. I found your profile here and I kind of like your sense of reasoning,I hope you don't mind me knowing you more?@@Gingerinthesouth
HRT started at 53. Immediately gained 10lbs all over ‘fluff’ although continued 4.8 HbA1c. Trying to tweak oestrogen/progesterone balance but 2 years later it’s not shifting. X
I can't get rid of hanging skin(pannus) around my waist. I am 74 and 5'5 1/2" and weigh 139. Should weigh 125 per my doctor. A plastic surgeon said she would charge me $15k for the pannus surgery. Plus I need a facelift that's $23k. My diet excludes sugar, artificial sweeteners, grains and seed oils. I used to weigh 218 pounds in 2017.
I always advocate own free body weight training and walking, even ti begin with. Those of us with multiple disc herniations and bilateral knee problems it's not wise to do jogging / heavy weight training
But wouldn't you say if you're obese maybe it's not vitally important to worry about protein intake until you've lost some weight? I DO understand we need protein, BUT if we want our bodies to eat through damaged proteins and all the stuff in-between the fat cells that are made of protein.... Do we worry about protein ? I am going tobdo one thing at a time. Also, Doing a good low carb Mary Ruddick style gut healing protocol for 30 days is super helpful for gut healing.

It’s crazy isn’t it ? How so many of us can’t get past a certain set point to reach our goal? Are we all that stressed over losing weight that we can’t lose it? 😂

Maybe I’ll switch up my fasting window to earlier and add protein to see if I move the needle ! Thanks for info

Carbs: sweet potatoes, root vegetables, low glycemic fruit, adrenal issue can cause salt craving
35:35 Trauma. I don't think it's just childhood trauma that can cause weight gain, it's even adult trauma, PTSD, etc. Cumulative PTSD.

I am trying so hard to sleep but can’t!

Doesn't snacking sort of help keep blood sugars level? Edit: never mind! 23:15 answered that
I’m 5-10 pounds heavier than I like to be and I can’t lose the weight! I’m 41 years old. My diet is fairly good.
Me too.
Megan Ramos from The Fasting Method did 3 5 day fasts back to back to lose her last 10 pounds.
Maybe it's time to move away from "fairly good" to something much better?

One gram of protein per ideal bodyweight. Minimum 100 grams protein.

Did you see my reply? Here it is: Do you only sleep well on the nights you do the estrogen?
