I think it’s hilarious that this old 80s kit gets water slides but new mg don’t. Blows my mind.
They do(not counting Ver Kas) but you gotta buy them separately like DLCs
That's because the modern kits are snap-fit and the selling point is that you can get away with just having nippers and no prior model-building experience (including putting on water slide decals) to put these together. That said I'd love to have proper decals included as well, especially that Bandai doesn't even make separate water decals for some kits. I was really surprised when I had to order 3rd party ones for RG Z'Gok & Zaku II...
honestly...
new title OLD but GOLD
That's it, right here.
or "(G)old"?
OLD to GOLD?
@@vancopland I second
the original hands don't look like fists but large potatoes, lol.
Hahha and they kept them for the HGUC
I love the slightly wonky proportions of the old kits. There’s a certain charm about it. And the overall process reminds me of using old balsa wood airplane plans - you feel like you’re building a piece of history! Rather than making something ultra realistic or anime-accurate, you can just enjoy the kit for the kit itself. And that’s pretty cool 👍
Same here. If I ever get the space and money, I'd also like to do up old kits with additional scribing.
I've made 2 of these and I agree, they're very charming in their own way and the big mittens are just adorable
These are definitely closer to contemporary military kits, my dad was into them at the time but they're definitely a painstaking process to build
The part used on 16:00 is an ab from a HGUC Dom Tropen. The sand brown version includes one as leftover. Very imaginative use for it!
Also, I friggin love WIP videos. Extremely glad these will keep happening.
Ah yeah! Good eye! 👍
Regardless of the series, WIP videos are inspiring!
Yes, put a Gun in the Arm . Looking at this kit , it's amazing to see how far Bandai has come in 40 years .
I like the old kits. I usually watch the Japanese RUclipsrs for this type of content-it’s nice to watch one in English! 😄 I’m looking forward to the finished product!
If you don’t mind, could you please share the names of RUclipsrs you’ve seen who build old kits like this? I’m really interested in watching more old kit builds 👍👍
@@happy_camper mokei michi...and ykb modelling are two I watch
@@happy_camper I know one. Kyo's modelling channel. though not a mainly old kit channel, his old kit projects were pretty interesting. I learn new custom build techniques from watching his videos
@@noahh1470 Awesome, thanks! I'll check them out.
@@jek014 cool, I'll take a look, thanks!
I really like the idea of making older kits better lmao
The Ground Gelgoog has a Gatling gun in one arm and a grenade launcher in one (it also has a backpack) the Jaeger has beam spot guns and the marines have machine guns, the OG Gelgoogs, those things on the arms I think are generators of some kind. Anyway I think making them guns would be cool, plus with the backpack you have a pseudo ground goog!
I used to build these kits back in the day as a kid, watching this and seeing how it's put together sure brings back memories!
At last Zak tackles an old kit!! Yesssss
Good stuff Zach, I like that you are maintaining it's 1982 aesthetic! :)
Lookin to be another awesome project, Zach! Hope you have fun with it!
Haha as soon as I saw these old Real Type kits came with waterslides, I knew you would be all over them! I have a few of these and will one day paint them up for some cool retro display pieces. Cant wait for this.
Where do the resin hands come from? I feel like I will need some of those.
If only the waterslides fit well onto the MG 2.0...
Henry used the power hands before, that’s where I heard of them!
@@ZakuAurelius Ooooh just from HLJ. Awesome!! I will grab a set for future projects.
Those pre (and) first grade kits are fun fun fun ( I've built them for years) just be prepared for sanding sanding sanding then the fun of painting 🙏airbrushes are a modern luxury same as the newest tools ( imagine using a paintbrush and pots of paint like we did back in the day😵) real modelling skills were needed and learned these kits wasn't built in a few hours but days and a great lesson in patients
Indeed. I’ll be hand painting this just airbrushing primer and topcoat
Cool i'll watch with interest as I enjoy your customisations (gives me ideas for my 1/144 kits) , the old ways were tryinly cumbersome but could yield great results at least these days you won't have to deal with stringy glue ,razor blades, thick enamel lead paint and rough sandpaper or worse rattlecan primers and no respirators/masks like back in the old days if we could get them or be bothered 🙆some of us even survived those toxic elements
Since this isn't a commander unit, you should make one arm have a beam emitter and one a vent. Sort of lean into the idea that it's a unit that sees more combat than the average grunt but they don't have the resources for a full-on commander's overhaul.
I really like these old kit builds with reasonable modifications. Look forward to more.
I love seeing old Gunpla/plamo like this so keep it up.
These old kits are what nightmares of made of, the horror. They look so cool though, I love that they match the character models from the original Gundam.
I really apreciate this, i actually needed inspiration for my first grade zaku that needed a similar thinking procces
This was really fun to watch. It was kinda sad to see the previous project go unfinished, but as a creative person myself, i understand not feeling it/not wanting to continue with something.
Really looking forward to seeing more progress on this though!
For a moment I thought you had the rifle w/o stock confused with the rifle of the MS-06$-3S which does look very similar and is likely a prototype just without a stock. Checking again, Uma Lightning's custom Gelgoog did have a modified beam rifle w/o a stock. It also had a thicker barrel assembly and an underbarrel grenade launcher. I think those mods were post-OYW.
Love the video! For that forearm accessory, I think a camera might look good there, but that might make it look to busy, also amazing work breathing life into an almost 40 year old kit 👍
The Guns on the Gelgoog Marine's Forearms look awesome. I like the trigger guard personally but it's your build so up to you if you want one.
I love these things, will start buying and displaying them once I get a new place. Something about them just does the gelgoog justice lol Fav is definitely the Cannon
I love the retro kits
It happens, sometimes you're simply not feeling it and have to move on to something else. I'm sure most of us would rather see you work on something you enjoy.
I am all for putting some type of simple weapon in the forearms. Also the weapon I think would look more complete with the trigger guard connected.
I think the thing on it's forearm was a missile pod so that would be pretty neat
You know there are some old kits with pretty cool builds fkr their time like the 1/144 gelgoog cannon
Yeah I have the 1/144 Regelgu i plan to work on as well!
Perhaps if a pilot or an engineer were to modify a gelgoog arm vent into a gun, they would stick a couple of rudimentary vents on one or two of the other sides of the forearm in question to make up for it, I know you're really not going for a ton of detail but that might be cool
Oh, cool, rebranding time. What's everyone's suggestions?
Mine is
um
Retro...
Retro Get...
Retro Get-go...ing...?
Perfect. Nailed it.
Call it TLZ. Technical Lessons from Zaku!
Or the classic TLC
I think several later versions of the gelgoog like the marine have gatlings mounted in the wrist, so it wouldn't be too out of place.
System Weapon 002 includes a Gelgoog Beam Rifle and one of the configurations removes that back stock piece.
I would add a full hand loop over just a trigger guard. Would be easier and look a little more practical for a mobile suit
An awasome project Zack! Just one thing, the resin hand lost the thumb! You can see it on the vid! Just telling you so you can fix it for the final build! 👍
Oh I have it! No worries~
The beam emitter idea is nice. The Gelgoog didn't have any integrated weapons and was defenseless if disarmed. So you could add the beam emitter or make it a mini missile launcher to imply that its an upgraded model. Sort of like the head vulcans on the Gundam.
New title: Gunpla: Polishing a Turd
Haha I actually considered that one!
Name it. Classic Project
Concerning the rifle, perhaps the pilot or engineer decided to remove the shoulder guard, maybe they decided to gelgoog had strong enough wrists that it didn't need it!
Next project I want to see is that you fix the proportion of HGUC GM Type C ❤️
"Making it look nice"
Nice.. 👌
I think you should add the beam emitter to the arm, makes it more interesting to look at.
I think it would be cool to do like a ground type gelgoog. On the wrist, those vents are machine gun or grenade launcher.
Ah grenade/missiles could be cool too yeah!
I do have a suggestion for a different name for "trash to treasure". Even though I like the normal name, I think a title like "Gunpla Remolded!". Something similar to Man at arms:Reforged. What do you think?
Not bad!
I am always for arm mounted guns, so let’s do it!
I really want a trash to treasure on that wing Ver. Ka behind you... It's not exactly trash but it's basically the 4th best version of that specific kit. But this will be fun lol
I have a resin conversion kit to turn that into the F95
@@ZakuAurelius Oooh that's a weird frame to have a resin kit on. Sounds fun!
A guy on Twitter who goes by Wopa inspired me to try doing something with 80s kits, but the stuff he does is way beyond my skill level, I'd like to try something like this first.
Wopa is amazing!
real type color on any Mobile Suits always looks awsome
Old to Gold maybe?
Oooohh! Yeah nice one!
I remember wondering why the heck Bandai started reprinting these, still do
Probably for weirdos like me who love Gelgoogs and old kits.
If you have any form of weapon part, what about making the forearm vent a vulcan cannon?
That midsection turned into a backpack looks to be from a dom tropen or Rick dom 2
New title “stupid to sick!”
You could use the bar from the stock, if you decide to remove it and use it for a beam emitter in the arm
Clever yes! I’ll probably just use bits cut from the runner though! Just drill the barrel hole
16:44 it's the midsection of an HG Dom
When you do the next old school kit, do the Zaku 2 Desert Type. I've got the original and the newest P-Bandai versions. And do you already have a video review in the new Zaku DT by P-Bandai? I love it but I'm also a bit disappointed in it. From what I saw, the original price was around $66 with shipping included in that figure. I paid about $75 for mine from ebay
I vote to add a gun barrel on the arms and add a trigger guard on the rifle
I believe the Gelgoogs have Beam Spot Guns on their arms, but I could just be thinking of the Gelgoog Marine/ Jäger.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤iloveoldkit
Maybe turn that front portion of the rifle into a ammo clip? AK style?
"old to Gold"
Hold on, Bandai was giving out waterslides for 1/100 (not even master grade kits) in 1982 but only give them out in Ver Ka's nowadays??? That's some shit smh
Yep, that’s why it sucks to bad for modern kits
That purple mid torso section is definitely from a Dom Tropen
Even many new Gunpla have the same issue with gun stock restricting articulation. Funniest part is - mobile suit doesn't need stock. With some rare exceptions you don't see it actually using the stock all that much.
In this particular case it looks like it's a telescopic stock. You could either add a hinge to convert it to foldable one. Or get rid of it entirely. I did the same with my HGUC Zaku F2. I cut away the stock of MMP-78 machine gun leaving only short stump (making it look something like this qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-2f02106ee53a07cfbe9ca82f05c0a861.webp ).
would older water slide decals break easily? not sure but certain water slide brands i use they tend to be more fragile and break very easily
No this kit wasn’t actually physically produced in 1982. This is surely a reprint probably from around 2012~
New to Gunpla, but what is off with the proportions of these older kits? They look somewhat screen accurate for the original series
Haha yeah that’s the trick! The original anime proportions were a little wonky so in actuality these kits aren’t that far off. It’s just that for more modern interpretations they’re pretty weird
That’s the dom trophens ab section
Like the new title WIP, I don’t think you need to add the rail guard on the gun it looks fine with out it.
7:40 we watching blue's clues now?
How is the name of the painting style written? I want to research it.
Max Watanabe is his name, or MAX渡辺
❤❤tên series là mode old kit
Beam emitter!
The way you added a ball joint on the side of the foot is pretty much like the Super Minipla GGG which basically has the same joint design~
BTW, check out this JP youtuber "今日の模型ちゃんねる" who did a lot of old kits and he does share a lot of useful technique in his video.
Ah yeah I’ve seen a couple videos!
Why he cancel the other project?
Are the power hands missing a thumb?
I have it here, it’s a separate piece to glue on
Isn’t the Gelgoog MS14?
Old type to new type?
💩Doody to beauty 💍
Alchemy series
How & where to buy plaplates?
Amazon and craft stores carry them
@@jonathanlea6638 thanks
@@juanmiguelsebastian1477 yup np
How about something simple like Gunpla Redo?
Hey zaku I just saw your rg nu gundam review. Can you actually do a double fin funnel look without the expansion parts? Like 3 funnels on one side and 3 on the other?
Umm I believe so yes?
derpy vs chad
Those seam lines are triggering my OCD
maybe call it gunpla rewind? models of past time?
Ohhh I like that too!
Oy, you fprget the re100/sd project
No it’s still here unfinished haha
"Old to New"
Not bad! I like it
Nice
The New trash to treasure XD
vent!!
is it coincidence that I was watching a video of yours when this popped up?
I vote for forearm beam saber
For the arm I am going for something like a electric whip like the one on the Gouf.
First for the first time
*Edit* dang someone's even faster than me
Is it me or your hair darker?
It tends to get darker in the winter and brighter in the summer due to more time out in the sunlight 😊
