Sitting here in Ireland watching videos of Irish set dancing and Sean Nos dancing and I just happen to come across this amazing recording. Absolutely everything about this is perfect from the fiddlers to the dancer to the fantastic setting. This is just perfect. Sometimes on youtube you just stumble across something that touches deep in your soul and I have to say that watching this was one of those times. Just fantastic stuff. A big thanks to all involved in making this video.

My Uncle would break out an old accordion and I would watch my cousins
      "Dance a jig."
      My Grandparents loved it,
      everyone did. Wonderful memories...

This was in my RUclips recommended (I love to watch Irish set dancing too), and I agree. There's something so beautiful about keeping the old ways alive. These songs and dances while old, originated from the Scots and Irish who brought them here when they settled in these hills in America. These three almost look like they've stepped right out the 19th century. Great stuff.

Wonderful background, duet fiddle right in the moment, and in the middle a wonderful, in my view, flatfooter. What could better! My idea of the pinnacle of flatfooting, which just happens to be my interpretation of proper flatfooting as well. By being preoccupied with other worldly matters through the years, I have missed out on this type of the most excellent dancing I enjoyed during my early years, but have continued to occasionally enjoy throughout my mid life. The portable stage (what I call the "step a tune") is under utilized these days! Never stop!

On my dad's side my relatives came in from the mid west and south to California after the civil war. I used to dance to these rhythms when I was younger. I am a composer and pianist and plan to study this music in depth and write piano pieces in this style. Now I have a chance to do it. This is fantastic.

That type of dancing is called Flat Footing. I am an old Yankee who moved to Southside VA many years ago and married a woman whose family had been living in that area,(Mountain Valley), since before the Revolutionary War. That is a slice of the past that is rapidly disappearing.
