My wife taught me to sail. She has done ocean sailing in New Zealand on her parents' boat from the age of 5 until she left home. We have been in storms on our 34 ft Beneteau in 60-knot winds off the coast of Australia, where the waves have been over 20 feet high, and she was the one who sailed the boat while I freaked out. Sailing is a beautiful sport, and whether you're male or female is not important. What's more important is your willingness to have a go and learn from your mistakes. Emily, it's good to see you giving it your all!
Hey thanks Ken! 60-knots is crazy! When we experienced 57knts last year we could not believe it and thankfully it only lasted about 4 minutes. Sounds like your wife is a pretty cool lady - Emily
I agree with you Derek, I am not afraid to admit that I have a hard time letting go of the things I enjoy doing and/or do well. It is something that I have had to be conscious of and remind myself, "stop, let her do it." - Cole
My wife and I and a friend are heading to Spanish Wells Eleuthera in 3 weeks. I am so jealous and happy for you guys and what you are doing. God bless you guys and be safe!
So I would like to suggest an alternate “moral of the story” around the sail bag. Perhaps finding (and proving out) a way to make it easier for Emily to open the bag is in order. As a starting point perhaps a small loop of line attached to the zipper pull would allow a boat hook to be used.
My wife, Candace was new to sailing and after two years on a 27 foot Buccaneer on the west coast and Lake Mead she was ready to take on the cruising life on board our Manta 42, Reality, for 10 years and managed our boat very comfortably and confidently. 32 hours of high winds, big seas and non functioning auto helm. She was tremendously competent on multiple 2 hour shift hand steering and sail trimming. Ive been sailing many classes of boats for 30÷ years. It made my adventures more relaxing and enjoyable knowing she could manage the boat single handed. And yes it can seem overwhelming. ⛵ 🌴 🏝 🗺
When fishing and catching the big fish it's best to pull up and reel down in a rocking motion forward reel down, backwards pull rod tip up. It's a lot easier and less tiring
Puerto Plata is where we have traveled on DR- they have Umbrella Street and Pink Street, Port of Prince San Felipe, coffee plantations, rio demajagua (i think that's the spelling) aka 27 waterfalls. All cool things for you to experience.
Great work with the boat Emily! And Cole hooked y’all up with some nice dinner fillets, pretty good team I’d say. Can’t wait to see where you go 1st in the DRep. It’s a beautiful place, really nice people, and the Food!
Fantastic job Emily! Your explanation of sail angle as “scoops” was priceless. Just bought a small sailboat and her name is Two Scoops. So perfect. Amazing video.
@@adventurecrews very proud of you Emily. Seriously an amazing job. Coke thanks for giving up the helm. Clearly she is capable. Been so busy with life. The boat is the first step to more on the water time.
Hey guys I noticed that when you're anchoring the knuckle on the end of the bridle is backwards. I know this is going to sound strange but the Rope end of the knuckle needs to be pointing aft. At 19 minutes and 50 seconds when the chain gets further out in front of your boat your knuckle is going to be backwards not pulling properly if you think about it at that time frame if you switch that knuckle 180° it would look proper
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching and commenting! Anything else that we can help with let us know and we will add it to our video ideas. - Emily

Nice video guys! Emily was under pressure, and she nailed it, cool as a cucumber!! You have come a long way, and credit to Cole for being a good teacher!
Hi guy’s! I think this was one of you best videos you’ve put out , absolutely loved it ! I really enjoyed the detail of how to operate a cat . Even my wife watched and really enjoyed it. Thank you, I will most definitely be back ..
Just found your channel a few weeks ago. Love it! Thankyou for posting such great content. We will be at Annapolis Thursday and Friday and maybe Saturday. Not likely buying a boat just yet but hoping to be on the water in March.

I've watched you guys since the beginning but somehow missed this epic journey. Captain Emily, great job. Cole, the fisherman, in the words of our former President, "You're fired." Just kidding. What a fun video. Keep it up, guys. I love your channel.
Emily, another super well done video. Perfect at telling the story. Covert Castaway is a podcast that is from a woman's perspective on moving from corporate life to live-aboard cruising. Certainly worth a listen when you have time.
Great job Emily! When using a winch you should backhand your grip I.e. avoid having your thumb facing the winch, especially when you are back feeding the line. This will protect your thumbs from being pulled into the winch.
