As a Mumbaikar by birth, I pretty much knew all of this. But seeing it so eloquently put together in a video makes me so happy. Hope you continue this and hope your channel grows. We need a lot more of Indian history on YT that is focused on the nitty-gritties of places and people rather than grand overarching religious or political themes.
I did not expect the the 9 day Ganesha festival to be such a "new" invention. Bal Gangadhar Tilak was a visionary of the highest order. While I already stand in awe of how deeply rooted these festivities are in the social fabric of Mumbai (and now most of India,) I can't help but cheer even louder at the sheer inventiveness of Tilakji and the heart of the people that answered his call. Mumbai shines everbright in our collective consciousness and even with the rise of Kolkata, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, it shall forever be the thrumming, vibrant heart of the nation. I swear there's something in the air!

Good job Aneesh. I can imagine how much research and hard work has gone into making this interesting video. I loved it. My last visit to Bombay was in 1984. The bandra worli bridge had not been constructed at that time. Land reclamation was in the process. I would see lots of trucks carrying mud and dumping it in the sea. It's been 40 years since my visit. Thank you for the valuable information. Looking forward to some more. Good luck.
Very nice video, Mumbai was hilly, these hills were brought down and used to fill in the swamps and reclaim the land, thus joining the islands. That is where they got the material used for reclamation.
I enjoyed the video. It gave me a lot of useful information about a great Indian city. I particularly liked your animated narration and excellent voice modulation. Kudos to your efforts. Keep up the good work 👏🏼👏🏼
your work is perfect, congratulations!!! Unfortunately, Portugal carried out the same violent religious and slavery cultural destruction here too. Os Lusiadas is also a classic book in our schools. I recommend checking out the book 1808, these are letters from Portugal when they came to Brazil. There are many things that are the same. Respect because your country is infinitely better!!!☕🇮🇳❤🌱
Very interesting, thank you for sharing! I think Brazil shares a similar relationship with Portugal that India shares with Britain, both left a long-lasting impact on our culture and language. But there's still a strong Portuguese influence in areas of India like Goa. Thanks for your kind words!!
Brilliantly done, a gripping encapsulation of the essence of the evolution of the most enthralling metro in the world- Aapli Mumbai, underlining the ethos and spirit that is indelible and impregnable against any onslights - natural or man-made made... I salute you for giving us this masterpiece 💕 🙏🙏🙏💐
thank you so much! Mumbai is such a fascinating city even for someone like me, who's only been there once years ago. Definitely hoping to go back there sometime!
WOW... comprehensive video, absolutely loved it. Good narrative Good research Very good presentation. One point you missed out was BOM-BAY IN Portuguese it means GOOD PLACE anyways keep up the good job.
Recently released movie ' Maharaj' is based on social & religious reformist movement on the soil of 19th century Munbai by great reformists like Karsandas Moolji, Dadabhai Navroji, Gokuldas Tejpal, Beramji Malbari, Bhau Daji & Narmda Shankar Lal Shankar Dave etc.
Yup! That's how interesting it is... Today's Malabar and Fort are hyped, but just a few 100 years old back they were one of the most neglected areas, reason being their geography as there were several hills and not just malabar... Which later were demolished kinda, while Baçaim (Vasai) and Nalasopara were far more important. Same goes with Kalyan city, as the name itself means good fortune.... And If we consider today's Mumbai limits, Mahim was the largest island... Interesting thing is the older name was "Mahikawati" which many people don't know. But later the rise of Bombay island changed the story itself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So basically this mess of environment was done by britishers yet again. No surprises there. Although this one was and is helpful in numerous way to indians then and now.
True! It's a bit of both, since we wouldn't have the modern city of Mumbai without them, but they destroyed a lot of the natural environment to create it

The city hides so many interesting stories that are both tied to ancient practices and modern innovations. Truly a fascinating place to be.

Great video of Bombay, not Mumbai. It will always be Bombay for me.
I'm sorry to say but you still have the British collonial mindset.
Originally Bharata which was named Hindustan later India should be BHARATA
@@Jai.hind7280you are right...
Book recommendation on this topic?
Mumbai Fables by Gyan Prakash gave me a lot of useful info on the city. City of Gold by Gillian Tindall is also supposed to be really good!
We have only read of British building Bombay , never heard Nalasopara was more important than Malabar hill
