Hey Buddy! I hope you and the family are doing really well! I have been painting in watercolor and oil for a while. But, its time to paint again in digital! I got Rebelle 6 today and will be giving it a whirl. So far, I like what I see using the demo. I do plan on putting a large monitor behind my 27" drawing tablet, to help with being able to see the entire composition. Basement Picasso does the same thing with his setup. Thanks for sharing your technique, as always! What a wonderful painting!!! PS: There is a painting contest that ends tomorrow at Rebelle so if you have any quick paintings you can crank out in a video I would get on it!
I use a wireless Huion tablet on a large TV for a monitor. Works great because I can step back easily like with a real canvas and even work from across the room. I also have another large TV in vertical for doing vertical digital paintings and working off of vertical photos in real paint.
Hey Daniel. How about creating full painting course or video series in rebelle4/artrage, but using approaches and techniques from the oil painting books, with color blendings and etc. It would be of great help for people who never worked with traditional media
Ive been asking for the same thing! So many people would be interested, i bet! Lots of people wanna learn how to paint, but either can't afford the materials, or dont have the space to set up a traditional art studio. I have the materials already and the studio, but its so messy and frustrating to try and learn to oil paint when you dont know what you are doing. I think digital is the best way to learn, tbh. And that way you dont waste expensive materials, either.
Always encouraging to get feedback from someone you admire. I just discovered Expressii, the watercolours are quite nice, still playing with it, but a very different sort of painting experience.
THAT looks a lot like how a WC app SHOULD look! It's a tad expensive for me, plus I THINK my GPU may be too anemic. _lol_ But I am going to check it out in trial mode. It's an amazing program!
Hey Daniel, you did an awesome job with Rebelle here. This is inspiring me to get after my practice for a more free style of art, that, as I now begin to understand, is in some ways much more difficult than realism. For realism you can have the perfect reference but for abstract art most of your reference hast to come right out of your own soul or maybe a mushroom trip could be referenced if you're brave :-) Realism needs very detailed focus and patience because with enough detail you can even make something look "photoreal" with the proportions being off. On the other hand the mysterious "realism" of abstract art requires some kind of dancing interplay and balance between broad and tight strokes, big and small shapes, color and value relations and textures. To me it feels quite literally like one of those so-called "illusion sculptures" where the intended image only appears when you look at it from a certain angle. If you hit the feeling with the right strokes and the right colors in the right places it locks in, it's right there, you created light. Amazing stuff!
Thank you sir for the amazing feedback! I absolutely love the way you describe all of these different facets of painting and ways of approaching the subject. I think you're right. For me the brushstrokes almost become kind of a mysticism. Like a flow state ritual that only sometimes happens the way I want it to! Painting in this way, very free, is the way I love to paint. I find it only feels easy when I'm painting everyday. That's good enough motivation for me! Thank you again for the kind words
That artist you admire is correct. You have "eyes." You can see the illusion as your brush drops the paint. That is something that can seldom be taught.
@@DanielIbanez Thank you sir. I try my best to do what I can; since I used to be left handed(which is now the paralyzed side of my body). Slowly trying to learn how to paint with the right hand. It feels odd, but currently it’s all I have. When I watch; what you say really resonates with understanding the painting process. Your time and efforts are appreciated!
@@HalfWarrior I can't imagine the many challenges... My wife has a chronic illness and her life is now totally upside down, but that is different kind of challenge... The painting thing would be an immense journey... I pray there are some encouraging signs for your right handed work. What surface do you paint on?
I'm really enjoying your channel generally, but especially your explorations in Rebelle 4, notably with the Oils. I've been hearing a lot lately about the Mixer Brush in Photoshop. It's not exactly new, but it keeps coming up in my YT feed. I'm no newbie to painting apps, but I couldn't make heads or tails of videos purporting to explain it! How necessary do you think it is for successful oil painting simulation? Thanks!
I am learning painting techniques on Bob Ross channel, showing lot of techniques with just brushes/knife , I was wondering if it's useful in digital ? To go farther , I have been starting that to paint on VR (vermillion VR) and I was curious about digital "oil painting" if we could do same technique, with same gestures . That's how I found your video
That's an awesome question! I think your best bet is to use a software called artrage. Our age has an amazing palette knife that does some super cool stuff. You can try it out on the iPad for like $5. And it's oil painting is unrivaled. But rebelle 4 has amazing brush and knife interactions as well. I think it'd be worth trying out both. I know that they often times have trial versions you can explore
@@DanielIbanez Thank you for your reply. I don't have Ipad but I see there is a PC version of ArtRage6 as well, but the next step will be to get a tablet as yours (maybe the XP PEN DECO03), because it will be difficult with a mouse to really use their software tools as the angle can affect the strokes.Going to check deeper your channel and l am sure I will learn a lot. Thanks again and Hi from France.
Never seen anyone color pick so much off of the original, after every stroke. Watching the brush at a slower speed is like watching the ball, back and forth, at a tennis match
Hahaha, that's a good visual! Yes, I posted a lot of color picked speed paints when I started the channel.thsn you for checking in. Are you a Rebelle 6 user?

That is amazing to hear! Thank you for the encouragement to keep making these videos!
Hey men great work capturing those subtle tones, love your landscape style
You're my biggest inspiration at the moment. Love your art.
I don't know what to say to such kind words... But thank you!!! It is such an encouragement to keep creating this stuff... Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for sharing your work, it's very inspirational! I'll support you on patreon!

That is a great idea! I am about 30% fine with an ebook for that using Artrage... But I bet a video series would be more valuable!

I really liked the under painting, reminded me that of Turner.
Thank you! That is awesome... I hope to keep seeing what these programs can do!
@Dalton Lachlan I am excited to hear about how it goes!

Thank you for the awesome comments in the chat! It closed before I could reply.... sorry, still figuring this out!
Really awesome Daniel! Thanks! The initial texture\underpaint is wonderful! Love the explanation for the various aspects and details! Makes sense!
