    Amazing how livery and cab drivers continued to merge in to the fire trucks right of way after a pickup drop off despite the response sirens and horns.

      I have heard of ppl calling 911 and being placed on hold. I can only imagine having life threatining injuries or the need for police and being placed on hold. Big cities like New York get lots of fire, medical and police calls every day to the point where emergency services get overwhelmed. But hey what can you do about it

    • @Rainman14
      @Rainman14  7 лет назад +10

      +Dean Labbe it happens on highways a lot since older fire trucks may not be able to keep that speed

    • @deanlabbe9952
      @deanlabbe9952 7 лет назад +6

      I saw no highways in his video. That said here are not many pieces of emergency response vehicles that cannot maintain the speed limit up to 65 MPH. Give the responders a break it might be your house or your mother they are trying to get too.

      +Dean Labbe I know people don't understand

    • @jaysmith1408
      @jaysmith1408 4 года назад +8

      Our ladder truck can get to 65 eventually. Our engine gets to 65 on the onramp. Same engine, same transmission. But when motorists keep driving or pass us (just to get in the way again) we get mad. And it’s never wise to piss off the fire department.

      Some cities actually have an officer lead the apparatus or ambulances for the purpose of people moving out of the way. And also people are much more likely to pull over for a cop than anything

  • @donmaasch559

      Don Maasch what they need to do is replace all the red lights with blue lights, then they would be more noticeable.

    • @brendanrunge295
      @brendanrunge295 7 лет назад +1

      Finlay Mitchell Not like they are loud enough, they are already loud... if your moving fast you won't hear the siren until it's on your ass

    • @SpiritBear12
      @SpiritBear12 6 лет назад +2

      Where you come from? Where is that? It's probably not in a congested tightly packed city with few places to pull over to and get out of the way. And good luck to any cop running back and forth the road all the way down the path of the fire trucks trying to dole out tickets to any one who just can't get out of the way. Many want to get out of the way, but there's little room and they can't run over the pedestrians to do so, so they are stuck until room is made. This is one of the biggest cities in the world, not some quiet suburban town.

      Ya can't win with Karens. They're the people to question one thing I.E wondering why emergency crews take so long in general, and they'll be the ones to either A. cut off the Emergency Vehicle to gain an advantage in a massive traffic jam and delay said Emergency vehicle. And/Or B. Fail to yield to the truck and just sit there because in their head they've gto more important things to do than to let a emergency vehicle pass by you to save someones life/help someone.

    Welcome to NYC. The only place in the great USA, in which people give zero shit about yielding to emergency vehicles. Why do they even have lights and siren?! What a joke. All the NYFD station should have armored bulldozers to cut a path for all apparatus. I say call the dozers “Linebackers.” Example, engine 23, engine24, truck 2, linebacker 3.....etc. respond to structure fire on....

    In European cities, in congested traffic conditions, emergency services are sometimes driving in the wrong-way, against the traffic flow. If they do that with those huge American fire engines, people might be more ‘incentivised’ to make way. :)

We often forget that they work under difficult ( and sometimes stressful) situations. People, lights & sirens don't mean just keep driving until it's convenient for you to move over. As soon as you see an emergency vehicle approaching (not once he's right behind you), you're supposed to get over and out of the way as quickly as possible, as in right now - the first possible hole your vehicle can squeeze into without delaying that emergency vehicle.

      the FDNY calls them MERV, short for Major Emergency Response Vehicle. You can find those in Germany as well, in many large cities the FD operates one or two Large Capacity Ambulanse Buses, in German called GRTW (Großraumrettungswagen). Until now I filmed two of them on a real emergency call and another one during a MCI drill.
      I was surprised that I didn't see any of the MERV during hurricane Sandy ...

    • @Rainman14
      @Rainman14  7 лет назад +1

      +EnjoyFirefighting - International Emergency Response Videos it would be tough for the MERV to respond during hurricane sandy cause the emergencies were spread out, though it probably should have responded to the Hospital effected during the blackout

    It's less about getting out of the way of emergency vehicles but rather HOW to get out of the way. Idk if it's in the books in Europe or if it's just a thing taught in driving school there, but every emergency response video I see from Western Europe the cars part ways like the Red Sea. Usually the emergency vehicle is able to ride the lines and cars to their left go left, cars to the right go right and there are no issues. It's almost uniform, one video that stood out to me was in Germany, the ambulance pulled up to a line of cars waiting at a stoplight and there was a brief pause, almost like everyone was counting to three and then seamlessly all the cars parted almost uniformly. Of course it helps that cars and emergency vehicles alike are smaller over there, but not to where it's significantly different than in the US.
