Ann holds her own in the rock world. To me, not only the best female rock singer of all time, but also one of the very best voices period. Crazy On You, Dog and Butterfly, Dreamboat Annie, Magic Man....of course Barracuda. I saw Heart 40 years ago in concert, Ann can caress your ears with her voice then rip them off. Anyway, you two make an old person feel proud of our era.
Ann Wilson is the BEST female vocalist in rock history!! Isn’t it amazing how Ann’s voice hasn’t changed? This song is about a man who is bad in every way!
Her voice is so pure, but I’m pretty sure even Ann would say Janis Joplin was the best female Rock vocalist of all time, and from Janis’ voice was spawned the greatest Rock and Blues vocalist ever, the Golden God, Robert Plant.
I saw Heart open for The Who in 1980 at the CNE Stadium in Toronto, Ontario. There were about 78,000 people there. Heart totally blew my mind the way the Wilson sisters just rocked the place.
(9:23) I think the guitar sound that Juliet is describing is called hitting the harmonics. It is created by lightly touching the strings with your fretting hand and strumming with your other hand. Guitar harmonics can be heard clearly on "Roundabout" by Yes (1971). I'd like to see your reaction to this song.
Welcome aboard, youngsters! Congrats, on discovering the greatest female Rock n' Roll band of all time! The lead singer, Ann Wilson could never be matched, she has so much range and power.
Why isn't anyone mentioning Heart's "Alone" where Ann invented/created the join between the guitar solo and the final verse with a perfectly controlled rock'n'roll scream???
LZ was actually Heart’s inspiration and patterned their sound after them. Ann Wilson definitely was emulating Robert Plant’s vocal style, and the guitar riff is pretty much the bass line in “Achilles Last Stand”. Try that one next. Fair warning: it’s ten minutes long!!
Both Ann & Nancy are amazing artists and they are right up in the top levels of musicianship. Loved them since I first heard them in 1975 or 1976. I saw them numerous times in the 70's and I expected that Ann's voice would bo a real powerhouse. I was shocked when I heard her. Not just the first time but every time. The sonic waves her voice released were tsunamis of power. Powerful but controlled in a remarkable way. Great choice ladies!
You two Sweeties give me hope for the future! You both have a wonderful, fun spirit and provide intelligent criticism and reactions. I enjoy your videos and seeing your reactions. Very entertaining! Thanks! 👏🏻🎸😎
I love the sincerity of your reactions. Some reactors just seem to go through the motions, but you two appear genuinely moved by hearing the music I grew up with and it's like I'm rediscovering it through your ears. Always a joy. "Mistral Wind" and "Alone" live. And "Crazy on You" live with the extended acoustic guitar intro. I've seen Heart a dozen times over the years and there is still nothing that hits me quite like Ann's voice. And every time I see them I am reminded of something else I stole from Nancy's guitar playing. I even stole her birthday, haha! Cheers, y'all!
Heart was and still is amazing.....Stay with them and do more.40 years of hits.Great review by you two.Nancy was a top notch singer, too,so try some of hers.
Heart are two sisters from Seattle area. Ann sings and writes and Nance sings back up and plays guitar and writes. Ann's voice is the best female rock voice of all time. Magic Man, Crazy on You, Dog and Butterfly and so many others are great songs. Great reaction, Chris
OMG! Dog&Butterfly! I'm using other half tablet. I'm a Proud Army Brat! My home of record is Washington State. I'm fortunate to have my best friend my sister travel every time we moved. We both LOVE Heart. Dog and Butterfly special meaning to us. We also served Proudly in the Army. Military life takes you all over the World. Washington and Heart has a special meaning for me. Thanks for listening. JoAnn Sigby
I had a 68 Plymouth Barracuda would a 318 wedge V8 that thing would lay rubber as long as you had your foot on the accelerator it would just smoke them. Great reaction thanks girls
The beat, and I mean the drums AND guitar and base as well which are extremely rhythmic, and the spacious, crystal clear, wispy vocals are what makes this tune so outstanding.
Up there with "If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now." (From "Stairway...") for being ambiguous must be "Sell me sell you, the Porpoise said." from THIS gem.
I have had a crush on the wilson sisters since the 80s. Ann and nancy are a national treasure. This song has it all, great lyrics sung amazingly, awesome drums, tasty guitar solo and riff. Ann is like a female robert plant, similar style and sound. Heart has plenty of other great songs too. All around great band, they earned the hall of fame.
Now you know why these ladies were my hero's, still are! Ann's voice and writing skills and Nancy is considered one of the best female guitarists ever. Love your Zep shirts! Crazy on You has to be next, you'll see Nancy blow your mind with the opening guitar work. Thank you again!
Many of us are commenting because we like the fact you see how great some of these bands are. Heart was huge when I was in high school. Half the senior girls wore Heart t shirts. Great voices, awesome musicians, great lyrics.
Heeey my adorable 2, it's been a while, but here I am again. Wow, I can't remeber when I heard this immortal rock-classic last time! Such a great song, I LOVE it...as always, thanx for that, wonderful! It's always a pleasure watching your honest, heart-warming reactions to this kind of music. Have a great sunday, stay safe and healthy, hugs to you both. :-)
Heart has SO MANY amazing songs! My favorites are Allies and Kick It Out, but there are tons. Ann and Nancy are phenomenal. I saw a documentary where they talked about this song. It was aimed at a rock journalist who wrote an article that implied that the sisters were actually in a romantic relationship with each other. That is where the line "if the real thing don't do the trick , you better make up something quick" came from. He made up that story just to sell more magazines. Clearly it made them mad...and it made them money, because the song was so good!
Heart are big Led Zep fans. You can hear the influence in their music. The drummer of Heart has the same 5 piece and 2 tympani drums as John Bonham used to play. I saw them live 5 or 6 times and they play a few Zep tunes in the encore. One thing about every time I saw them is Ann's voice steals the show. Sooooo Powerful! Keep up the good work girls. You can't beat those sibling harmonies. It's like, on one hand you have one of the greatest lead singers in the history of rock music, and then her sister pops in and harmonizes with her? Nancy is Heart's secret weapon.
Barracuda was written as a response to their record company at the time that had started a rumor stating that Ann and Nancy were not just sisters, but lesbian lovers in a bid to drum up publicity for the band and their next release "Magazine". Ann says she was specifically angry at a music reporter who asked her backstage how her "lover" was. She thought he meant her boyfriend and the band's manager Michael Fisher, but he meant Nancy. In the end, Heart was able to drop their then-current contract with Mushroom Records, stop production on Magazine (which Mushroom released in it's largely unfinished form) and signed with the CBS records subsidiary Portrait to release the album "Little Queen", from which this track comes. You can really feel Ann's anger and frustration with the whole of the music business in the studio performance and in many of the early live performances of the song.
Another great video, girls. As a former gamer, I can honestly say, I put this song on loop when I played any NASCAR game, and raced on the super speedways like Daytona and Talladega.
Love this I never really listened to this brilliant riff and lead is great now I’m older I can really appreciate it but again it’s your reaction that makes it great thank again Mia thanks Juliet BARRACUDA yeh

There are a couple songs from an old TV show they used to have on late at night in the 70s where artists played live called The Midnight Special. Look for Crazy on You and Magic Man. You can see how powerful Anne's voice was live! Plus the intro for Crazy on You showcases the guitar skills of Nancy! I think there was another live song they did on that show. Might have been Dreamboat Annie which was a deeper cut that fans of the band really like.

This was like...35 years years before the Kennedy performance. Ann was 64 I believe at Kennedy. Heart was HUGE in late seventies....I wore out a couple of their cassettes in the car. Many hits. The Wilson sisters LOVED Zeppelin, and Jimmy, after hearing them do a Zeppelin cover in concert, gave them his blessing to cover whatever Zeppelin song they wanted because Ann could NAIL it. They often ended their concerts with a couple of Zeppelin covers. You should listen to their cover of Battle of Evermore. It’s fantastic and it’s available on RUclips. Here is a link to this amazing ruclips.net/video/wShmbjqP3WU/видео.html Barracuda was written about the music industry....a man trying to take advantage of a woman in order to further her career. A barracuda was a predator. Rock was a very hard genre for women back in the day. MORE HEART....you will love them....I second the request for Heart’s song Crazy On You next.
I saw these ladies on this tour waaaay back in 1977 for their Little Queen album. This song was released a month or two before I saw them in August. It was in a small arena of around 1,000-1,500 seats. I probably had the best seats in the house, except for front row on the floor, up in the front row, center balcony, was the best concert I'd seen until seeing Queen in 1980.
Love your comments on this classic song. When i heard it for the first time back in 1977 i was actually reading a fishing magazine with a barracuda on the cover. Weird, eh ?
SUCH a great iconic classic tune, one of if not THE best hit from heart. This song was written about their manager in cahoots with the record label, they did a bunch of stuff to screw the Wilson sisters over...including fabricating a story of them being sexually involved with each other. A Barracuda is a mean predatory fish, very sleek and fast. Pretty sick stuff just to make an extra buck. Despite all that this tune is so awesome, the galloping riff being very addictive and as a drummer it's one of the most fun songs to play! Ann's voice is one of the best in the business, she's got some pipes!! If you ever see the movie Fast Times At Ridgemont High, Nancy Wilson appears in a cameo during one scene. Great reaction...you two are having WAAYYY too much fun!!
If you really want Ann and Nancy to knock your socks off with their voices, I'd recommend "Alone." If you're curious what Nancy sounds like as the lead singer, listen to "These Dreams."
I know their Stairway cover was awesome, but this is the Wilson sisters I grew up with and why IMO the best female led band of all time/ Nothing against Janice, Pat, Grace, Joan and Chrissy but these two sisters are the queens of rock

Why does nobody recognize Roger Fisher when they talk about Heart? Guy was amazing. All of their great guitar licks were Roger Fisher.
Mostly because nancy is distractingly hot!
Don’t forget Mike Derosiers. He was a monster on the drums!
Dont worry most of the musicians knows who is roger fisher,he is the sound of heart ..\m/
Indeed one of THE most underrated guitarists of all time.
Because Wahmen
Ann Wilson is the BEST female vocalist in rock history!! Isn’t it amazing how Ann’s voice hasn’t changed? This song is about a man who is bad in every way!
Yes, Ann & her vocals have always been the "heart" of Heart!
True talent
Ann is awesome!!!
But my vote would go to Linda Ronstadt.
Her voice is so pure, but I’m pretty sure even Ann would say Janis Joplin was the best female Rock vocalist of all time, and from Janis’ voice was spawned the greatest Rock and Blues vocalist ever, the Golden God, Robert Plant.
Janis probably, but Ann is great. Kate Bust also fantastic. Karen Carpenter the best, but not rock.
I saw Heart open for The Who in 1980 at the CNE Stadium in Toronto, Ontario. There were about 78,000 people there. Heart totally blew my mind the way the Wilson sisters just rocked the place.
"Crazy on You" NEXT PLEASE!!!!!
Normally I'd agree, but it might be a little creepy for this old man to watch these two young ladies react to it.
Agreed. A true showcase of Ann's extraordinary range. Also beautifully written lyrics.
Yes!
@@rancidcrabtree. oh, you are definitely interpreting something from that song I didn't.
@@haagenneldeberg6787 Really? Maybe i'm a product of my time, but it was generally accepted it is about sex when it came out.

Barracuda was a huge hit in the 70's. A staple of classic rock. Heart is part of rock royalty.
From what I hear, it was about their manager.
I fell in love with Ann's voice since I first heard it!! 😍

Heart and the Runaways pushed the guys aside in the 70's and said you want rock? We'll show you how to rock! And they did!

I believe that Ann actually wrote the riff for the song. Both sisters also are gifted guitarists

Anne was so angry, she wrote the song in like 2 days.
If you want to hear Nancy sing, you have listing " These Dreams" it is one of my favorites of heart.
Good catch girls on the frustration in her voice, the song was about their record producer and they were angry at him and called him a barracuda.
