I bought this radio because it was the closest to what I operated during the VietNam War Days. I was a Radio Teletype Operator that sent messages (with Secure Scrambling) over a AN/GRC 46D that had many of these features but with a Modulator and Demodulater connected to it to send and recieve Teletype messages from all over the world using a Doublet Antennae. The BFO feature was used to receive CW (Morse Code) and Teletype D/C impulses to get a clear ungarbled message. We called the middle of the SSB "Zero Beat". With todays technology, Digital/Computer/Satellite, that tecnology became obsolete.I could send a teletype message that would travel and bounce the stratosphere and recieve it 3 minutes later. You forgot to mention that if you short hold the up or down caret the radio will scan then stop at a station so you don't have to spin the dial to find a station.
Hey, you, too? I was also my platoon's RTO. I carried the AN/PRC-77 for about 18 months in the mid-80s. I still have strong memories (and legs), from humping that damned "prick" up and down those freaking hills. And then, having to stay awake until midnight for the frequency changes and authentications. Ah, good times :)
I bought my Grundig Satelit 750 back in 2009. Amazon had them for $249 and I got mine as a Lightning Deal for $149. It's been my workbench radio mostly, but sometimes I'll move it to the bedroom for listening when something major is happening in the world. I also have a Tecsun PLL-660 which is fantastic, and I have an SDR setup on my MacBook Pro with the RTL-SDR dongle kit. This gets the majority of my "roaming" time as the waterfall makes signal hunts so much easier...but still fun to slowly scroll the 750, eyes closed and hearing focused, until you get that signal, hone in on it and try to figure out who/where....
I own the Grundig Satalit 750. It looks absolutely identical to this radio. I can't say enough good things about my radio. Great shortwave reception as well as ham bands. Thanks for a great review.
This is a good overall radio for the price, especially on most SW bands with an external aerial; but does very well on reception with its own LONG telescopic! Air Band good too. I've had mine for 7 years now (different badge, same build). Very pleased with it.
I love it. Its not cheap but does everything I need and want. So good to see bass and treble knobs on a radio, they used to be so common back in the day. Thanks for showing all the features and your input.👍🤓
I absolutely love this radio, mine's a Grundig Satellit 750 which doesn't have a USB port. I got a MLA-30 as because the plus version is not available in India. I listen to it for hours. while working.
Greetings from Dallas: I was planning to buy this. I am an old fan of Shortwave radio, not much on AM and FM. If i hookedI used the MLA , would i get Shortwave channels from far off lands? Thanks for your response.
Thanks for sharing and nice presentation. It’s been ages since I use to listen to my shortwave radio. I use to listen to my SW radios back in the 1980’s- early 2000’s for countless hours daily especially at night time when reception was best. My short wave radios which I still have are the Sony ICF - SW 100 and the ICF- SW 07 and also the Sangean ATS818ACS. Truthfully if it isn’t for the internet these day I’d still be dxing away!!
i bought a "lot" of 10+ radios and one of these was in it. a grundig. I almost sold it but after using it on a longwire, i decided to keep it. great rig! oddly runs on 6v
I use a little Tecsun digital shortwave radio, and use a 50 foot wire antenna outside my condo in the city. Works very well, especially in the evening. Maybe one day I can get this beautiful radio.
Better SW radios have AGC (automatic gain control) and AFC (automatic frequency control) with option to lock tuning on either upper or lower side of an AM signal. Great for music and sideband stations. Grundig Sattilite radio had this, but such features will cost you. It was $500 in 2006. Happy DXing.
As per usual, a great review, 😀👍 I thought when I got back into listening there wasn't much to listen to... but once you start looking around on shortwave you soon realise there's thousands of channels to tune into.
I have the Grundig and Eaton versions. They seem identical but the Older Grundig version seems to work a little better. I beilieve they were both made by Tecsun.
I've wanted one of those for years, back when it was the Grundig 800. Glad, I've waited the many years, seeing how the Eton has upgraded it with better technology and features. But, then again, I'm still happy with my old Sangean/Radio Shack DX 808's and 909's for now. I've just always really liked that big, box table top radio and wanted one. This one may just be in my future.
A good lower budget radio is the Sangean ats 803a, it was also traded as the Realistic DX 440, but the Sangean has better internal components. Old, but great. Older receivers can be found very cheap, I got a "new" realistic dx 200 a couple of month back for £70 ($85). But I've been into shortwave since I was a kid, and I'm now 54!
I was never a radio person but you and I think on the same level, let’s leave it at that. I boughtthe Eaton elite executive so I can travel with it I’m sure you know which radio it is. It has just about every function this radio has, I was never a radio person and now my wife can’t get me off that radio. I’m always listening to ham radio, CB radio whatever. I clip an alligator clamp and a 50 foot wire out my window on a slant about 30 feet up I can pick up everything. I hope people wake up and this is something they should have so you know what’s going on and when it’s coming to your front door, you take care brother
I just got mine delivered today for the first time I've owned one at all. I'm learning, watching RUclips videos, reading books and getting involved in ham radio clubs. I am totally new at this but my dad had one years and years ago and I still remember his, KTU 2239 that's what he would always say when he would sign off on the radio he was on. Mind you, he's gone now and that was in the 70s. A good man he taught me well, in fact he taught me everything I know. I'm hoping that someday I'll be able to get one where I can actually communicate and talk to people after I get a license. In the meantime I thought this would be a great starter to just listen and learn. I paid $359 for it. And I know what's going on in the world I've known for many many years. I've got a lot of things prep including his old radio, sadly I don't think it works anymore. I wish I could find someone I could trust that could take a look at it and maybe even fix it for me. If anybody has anybody they know please let me know it would be very important to me, and it would mean a whole heck of a lot. God bless, stay strong.
I miss listening to shortwave. I have a C Crane Skywave and a Realistic DX-440. Unfortunately where I live is about a quarter mile from a radio station and everything seems to get stepped on by the local sports talk FM station ☹️
This is a nice review. The jack ass on RUclips with the shortwave channel bashes it (thinks he's the final word on this radio) and really doesn't realize that his problem with this radio is not common to 99% of us. I think it's a very nice radio, albeit being a little long in the tooth.
On the strength of your review I purchased this unit - my wife got it for me for XMAS (found one open box for $300). My late Father and I used to love shortwave listening in the 70’s. I’ve never used a digital receiver but am trying to learn. Could you recommend a simple external antenna?
I got the MLA 30 on amazon, its a good smaller magnetic loop antenna, then again a nice look bit of wire out your window and into a tree it is good too, but if you cant do like 75 of wire in your back yard, give the MLA30 a look
I just bought one of these used,, and from my limited knowledge of it, what should I look for to make sure all things work? And I see different antenna connections, what antennas should I be looking for? From my very limited understanding, it needs different antennas for various uses.
Yes I would I am still using it, and its been flawless for me since I did the review, Its up on a shelf to the right of where i shoot my videos and is on a whole lot when i am not doing vids
Hello all, I ordered my Eaton Elite 750 today as I’m writing. I happen to be totally blind. I won’t be able to utilize the visual display but I’m certain I’ll be using direct entry allot. Are there similar models to this radio available presently? I think I heard videos of a 750 which had a local DX switch and more selectivity features. Can someone set me straight? I also have the Tecsun PL880. Thanks so much! Jim
What is the major difference between this model and the Eton satellite version, apart from the price? Eton - Elite Satellit AM/FM/HD Radio with Shortwave, Aircraft and Single Side Band (SSB), Multi-Color Display for RDS, Dual Programmable Clocks, Tone Controls, High Dynamic Range
I have a way to get the wire out side. what I'm wondering if i attached the wire to a television tower that about forth feet tall. if I attached the wire to the tower would it work as antenna.

What a great demo. Just ordered one today, second-hand. £250. .
Have had it only a few days. Reminds me of times in my ships radio shack listening to whatever we found. Great radio by the way

The Grundig (satellite) 800 used RL Drake dxing filters, a very good radio for reception.
A CCrane Justice external antenna plugged into the antenna Jack is even better on this radio. I had a Grundig Satellit 750 (the same radio)
Excellent review. Thank you. I have an NRD-535 and few others but, for the Air Band, I am considering the one you demonstrate.

Hello, is this a good device or not? The device was made in 2008. Please respond. Thank you❤❤🎉
its worked great for me, pulls in a lot, sound quality is amazing, and i am just using an MLA-30 as an antenna on it, so I like it
yes I know what you say about weird stations out there. I used to listen to a stations about e-t.
How can I memorize a station and how can I listen to the memorized ones on the Tecssun S2000? Does anyone know thank you all Thank you

Odd.....I have one in the bedroom! Glad I came across this....thanx!
I will get one this year, thanks for the review
Kinds of reminds me of a tiny Navy R-2368.
Good advice
is the antenna mfj? I want to catch the name of the antenna. it takes around a thousand dollars to get a new ham radio.
only having a wide and narrow filter is this radios biggest flaw you have hear all the stations nearby
Is there anything similar just for listening in an emergency in the $100 range?
Oh yeah loads in that range, I have a few in my amazon store as well as plenty all over that site, Dont have to spend this kind of money to get a decent shortwave at all
How can I listen to stations that I have memorized on the TECSUN S2000
I’m getting this to listen to uvb-76
Does it recharge rechargeable batteries??? And the display is similar to the Drake SW8.
I guess the display is sort of similar to the drake, as for batteries you of course, can use rechargeables in it but it does not have a port what will allow you to charge them up, you would have to take them out to charge them

I also have a pully to pull up an anttena would the veritable work on it?
Yeah that would get it up a lot higher
In today's world $400 for a quality radio isn't that expensive at all.
The only advantage of inflation.
Maybe in your world
If this is the same or almost the same as the tecsun s2000 I found that one for under $300.
With so much going to digital mode will this radio decode any of the digital modes or will it become obsolete
This is on my get list this week..
QUESTION. Does this receive cb band?
Yes it does
Does this radio pick up digital radio?
No analog
Can you use this with a mic?
How much is it.I can shop if I can't compare
Hi we’re did you get the short wave loop antenna from please just bought one of these radios
I got the antenna off amazon its called an MLA30
Do not understand why this radio and the other versions do not have the Weather band for emergencies since you’re doing a video saying it’s good to be prepared you would want weather alerts and so far every one I’ve seen of this brand has no weather band & it should
The AM reception is very weak,i don't know how to solve that issue, i can be beat by any modern cheap radios as panasonic or xhdata
Can I reside in say North Carolina and get stations in Paris or Germany or Africa on this?
Yup its all a matter of good antenna however but the internal antenna is pretty decent on this model
does it pick up police and fire bands?
Very nice receiver ! What sort of antenna did you use ?
It was an MLA 30 Magnetic Loop
@@Iridium242 Thanks a lot !
Looks like Tecsun )
Can you transmit from this radio?
Nope its just a receiver
@@Iridium242 thank you
What’s a good outdoor antenna for this radio?
I would just use a long wire, I have the MLA 30 outside but a simple bit of wire up high and nice and long should serve you well.
It's now $500. 0:56
Can this pick up eam signals ?
If you mean the Emergency Action messages on 8998 and 11175 yea it can
Can the D batteries be recharged in the radio?
I run mine off AA NiMh batteries enclosed in a D battery adapter. There is a way to put in a code to let the radio know you are using rechargeables. The radio sips power so even AAs last a long time.
If you short press the enter button, you can enter code 28 for rechargeable batteries. Code 29 is for normal batteries.
You cannot recharge the batteries in the radio.
Hello, will you walk me through set up
I’m EDPECIALLY interested in listen to Hams
Thanks Tony
Offering a fee for your time?
Sure what are you looking to do and how much space do you have for an antenna. A decent longwire antenna just tossed up in a tree will work wonders for SW and ham reception!
If it only had a rechargeable battery. Price of D cells keeps creeping up.
You can buy rrechargeable D cells I have a few
