I was very fortunate [as a young lad in the 1950s] to be on one of those last 'non-stop' runs by Mallard, as well as shorter hops from Darlington to Newcastle. I was also on trains pulled by the likes of Sir Nigel Gresley, Cock of the North, Talisman, Golden Arrow, and other famous names. I can still close my eyes, think, remember, feel, smell and 'hear' those experiences of yore. Oh, and Mallard didn't always have to stop for water, there were also water troughs that it could dip a hose into while still on the go.
Man was I born much too late! I can only imagine how exhilarating it must have been to ride, and drive, it. The only running steam line near me is a tiny stretch of an old narrow gauge line. The distance is disappointing, but it sure is a wonderful ride while it lasts though. But I've never gotten to experience high speed rides like that (hardly even wide gauge rides). Hopefully that will change in the future :)
The A4s were wonderful looking beasts and with a power output of upto 2700 hp also extremely powerful. But the German streamlined locomotive in 1937 had 3000 hp and achieved 125 mph on the level and was not damaged after attaining that speed, unlike Mallard. Mallard attained 126 mph for only 100 yards down a slight incline, and even Sir Nigel Gresley doubted that it had attained that speed.
1:082:39 This Locomotive Mallard Is Now Part Of The National Railway Museum In York In Yorkshire. Thanks Mate. she now lives in the national railway museum at york in the main hall they gathed the reamaning locos of her class for an anaversary ive been only once close up to it when i went with my brother as far as i know Mallard is not in steam under her own power also its not wearing 60022 as its got the oridgonal numbeting 4464 or i have probly not noticed 60022
yes that is correct but most people know the complete unit as a train. so not to confuse people who English is not their first language it is just easier to call it a train inside of a locomotive.
It is not a train mallard is a locomotive..it is the fastest STEAM loco ever but was not a favourite on top shed that honour went to flying fox ,woodcock,Lord Farringdon..
I want to see it, I want to film it, I want to take pictures of it, I want to ride it, I want to drive it, and I know that I most likely will not be able to do the most of these things at all. The best I can do is visit wherever it's displayed.
no it wasnt thomas&animefan2000 it was taken to shildon for the grreat gathering by union of south africa then back down to york for the 2nd phase of it but since the great gathering im not sure its been out side
This Train Set The Steam Locomotive Speed Record 75 Years Ago. The fastest trains in the USA are the Amtrak Acela, which hit a pretty decent 150 MPH. But on July 3rd, 1938, a steam-powered locomotive called the Mallard hit 125.88 MPH in England, and it's still the fastest steam locomotive in the world.
The most beautiful steam engine ever built ❤️.

I did the cheecky thing of standing in the cab of mallard
What'll happen on Mallard's 100th anniversary? Do you think the NRM will let her run for a short period of time in celebration?
We might have to wait and see and find out what’s happening
8:37 if you listen 🎧 carefully you can hear the narrators voice very faintly, that spoke before the original narration sound did
0:00 - 0:29 I've always been wondering who was narrating this series
U can hear the bell 206 helicopter in the background in this clip at garsdale
the mallard is good looking
The title is incorrect. Mallard is not a train, it is a locomotive. A train is what it pulls.

Hey. Can I please use some of your footage in my films? I will credit you for it.
hi there thank you for asking... I do not have any legal right over this video. so you may go ahead and use it at your own discretion.. Albert
