    I've been playing bass since 1969, own (and owned) a bunch of basses from Mustangs, Fender Jazz, G&L, Rickenbacker, Ibanez, Takamine etc. I wholeheartedly agree the Affinity Jazz is a great cheap bass. Thanks for the demo!

      Same vintage as you mate! Been playing Jazz Basses since 1971. I've owned 2 American, 2 Mexican, and 2 Japanese (including a JV) over the years.. These basses are incredibly good value and play/sound way better than you might expect. I already have one in sunburst and have just ordered another in burgundy mist. What's not to like at this money? Great demo btw.

    I could not agree more . I picked up a 10 year old Squier Jazz Bass dying a slow death in a guitar center warehouse in Oklahoma no less, for $139.00 After a lil 0000 steel wool on the 10 year old dull rosewood and dull frets , to recondition the neck , by appling lemon oil to finish that job . I then changed the plastic nut with a torq xl replacement, and brand new strings . A new killer Tortoise pick guard, and a first class setup , and this old girl is back in action ! Thank you for your review.

    I'm a beginner bass player, this was my choise for my own bass guitar. 😍 I Love how it feels when i hold it and of course the pink color is very cute.
    Glad to see experienced players approve this one, i was a little embarressed at first because i knew this was a "cheap" one, but as a student I can't afford a 700€ up bass guitar.

    I picked up an Affinity PJ-bass just a few weeks ago & if it represents Squier's quality today then they seem to have sorted out the fit & finish issues because it's really well made. The neck is excellent, the fret ends are perfect, and all the pick guard screws are straight !
    The setup out of the box was OK, but the action was lowered for me by the tech guy in the shop, and it plays very well indeed.
    Incidentally, I have a CV J-bass whose control plate also doesn't quite match up to the pick guard.

    I really think anyone that’s wanting to buy a bass should give the cheaper options that are out there a fair chance. I own an Indonesian Squier VM 70’s JB and also a Jaguar bass from the same series. And I recently bought a new MIM PB and tbh I think there’s very little difference in the finishing and hardware(neck pocket is even tighter on the squiers) and certainly not enough to justify the increased price for the MIM unless one finds the F logo super important. Basically any player can get by perfectly fine with a squier that’s been set up correctly imo. Btw, I also have an affinity telecaster and the neck on it is super nice, especially after sanding the fret ends with a sanding sponge and rolling the edges a little bit. In other words: TRY BEFORE YOU DECIDE!

    • @jamesthainmusic
      @jamesthainmusic  2 года назад +1

      Totally agree people sometimes get drawn in by a logo but I think with the squiers having the same headstock shape that the logo shouldn’t put people off

    • @elmanitasdeplomo
      @elmanitasdeplomo 2 года назад +2

      @@jamesthainmusic Totally agree too. I’m very happy with my basses except the Jaguar because the body is so light that neck dive is present even with three of the tuners removed. But … it has a looovely real rosewood fretboard so I’m seriously considering buying a cheap raw PB body to have it painted in Charcoal Frost Metallic nitro and combining that with tortoise and the Jaguar neck, to make a poor man’s Sean Hurley signature bass(no logo headstock though). I know the affinity is now available in that colour too but I want something with a slightly nicer fretboard. After that I think my GAS will be cured …I hope🙄.

Okay now I really want one. When I find a good sounding guitar that’s also in a unique color or style, that’s a win win for me. And the price too.
