That was the best sales video for the Sachtler FSB 8 I've seen yet. It that the standard quick mount plate comes with the tripod or a special order piece for the FS7?
It's a very standard VCT-14 plate, which the Vocas FS7 rod plate snaps into. These are standard tripod plates for all broadcast ENG cameras, and attaches very securely to the Sachtler plate with two big screws.
Very useful tweaks, some of which I have similar. The side-on monitor/recorder adaptor is ingenious ... tried it and it works. I've been buying a lot of SmallRig adaptors and I like the viewfinder mount ... much better idea. Great informative video, thank you!
The link that you have here for SmallRig Perpendicular Rail Clamp is wrong - the part no should be 1245...not 1254! Its a great fix with the right piece
At 01.23 when you say it goes into the existing clamp, is there a part you've added which isn't listed above? What is the 'handy attachment'? Is it simply an additional short rod? Love the look of this setup and want to make sure I buy the right parts!
Hey there, great video! One question, I’ve noticed on my fs7 that the side where you fitted the small rig microphone rod has no where near enough to put on mine. It is only poking out on that side by about 5mm and it doesn’t seem like that can be pushed left or right from one side to the other... is that correct? Many thanks!
Hello!! , I have put the same support in the viewfinder, but if I put the eyepiece, I can not lower it or turn it, beacuse it touch, how have you solved that? I guess you will do like me and remove the eyepiece, thank you!
What size xlr cable is that for your microphone 6” or 12”? I have an fx9 and I want to fit an xlr cable properly, don’t want it too small where there’s stress on the cable and don’t want it too big where there’s excess cable hanging from the camera.
Excellent! I stumbled across this by luck. Been looking for good solution for my broken mic mount and wonky VF on my Fs7. What do you like for hand held rig?
As in the description... - Smallrig Nato 15mm clamp - amzn.to/2TA4DnQ - SmallRig Perpendicular Nato rail clamp - amzn.to/2ttcoBh Microphone mount bracket: - SmallRig 15mm rod clamp 1549 - amzn.to/375YDHA - NEW VERSION! SmallRig 1993 Mic Holder with clamp - amzn.to/38c00Es
The bracket on the side of the viewfinder is not like the one I have on my FS7. Is that an add on as well? I bought the Small Rig pieces but can't get the 15 mm extension to tighten on the EVF.
I have try find these viewfinder clamps etc from smallrig site now like 2 days and i just don't find all the products.. do you have the code of the clamps etc? also i need this very short rod ?
I solved an issue with complaints about the viewfinder rod being annoyingly short. If anyone is interested.. 9-inch length, adding an additional 3 inches to the original. rigidesigns.com/products/fs7-extended-arm
Just worked with the FS5 and I have to say is the worst camera I ever work with. The viewfinder was all over the place. It was very hard to keep a good level with it. The bottoms as I was shooting made it very challenging, I was trying to hold the view finder do to the fact that it falls very easy and I pressed something that made the image go upside down. Now I was doing a concert and the lighting conditions where very low, I couldn’t find where the bottom was to go back to normal view. Sony might thought of good images but it didn’t think of the person operating the camera. Producers are asking for this camera since is cheaper, at the same time it compromises my skill and the end result of the shot. It is time to start thinking about operators. Pretty image, horrible design
Thank you! Broke my FS7 audio clamp and will be replacing with your recommendation!

@@fryfilm2000 Thank you for the info.

Great video. I see you have the Sony G 18-105mm lens mounted. Do you use this lens often? How does it perform on an fs body? Thanks!
It's the lens I use most often and although not as sharp as some posher glass, is the most useful lens I own.

Sorry. Thank you for the correction.

Yeah it's just a short rod we cut off a long one.

There are an Allen screw on the bottom of the handle (opposite the hotshoe) which you need to loosen, then the rod just slides through.

We took the clamp handle off so it won't touch.
Very informative. . What shoulder/rail mount is that? Thanks
It's a Vocas VCT-14 one. I'd prefer a bit more padding but otherwise it's been superb.
Hey John, I'm wondering which lens in this tutorial, thank you for the videos.
It's the much underrated Sony 18-105mm f4 OSS G servo zoom. Best value and most useful lens we own!

I think I made that one myself.

Exactly as it is in the video, but with the FS7 hand grip back on.
Love it John! Where does one buy these rig bits..?

We put a short rod into the viewfinder which then goes into the Smallrig piece.
Good stuff! Curious what Matte box you use and do you still like it?
We only use Chrosziel matrteboxes. This is an MB 450R2 www.chrosziel.com/pca/matteboxes-sunshades-frenchflags/
Yep - bang on. Just done all these mods thanks to you. Des
The SmallRig Perpendicular Nato rail clamp 1245 isn't big enough to hold the nato rail. any suggestions?
I think I listed that part number wrong. Another commenter has put me right.
I have try find these viewfinder clamps etc from smallrig site now like 2 days and i just don't find all the products.. do you have the code of the clamps etc? also i need this very short rod ?
Yes you also need a short rod. We just cut a piece off the end of a long one.
Hey what tripod is that? I’m looking for a good tripod for my fs7
Sachtler Flowtech 75 with FSB8 head.
Hi what size screw did you use for the new mount?
Good question, no idea! I have a box of nuts, bolts and crews so I just went through that till I found a pair that fit.
What mic do you use ? I can see RODE N .......
NTG-2 on this one, although I do have an ECM-NV1 on my FX6.
Great video, thanks for sharing these insights. I've linked to it via the FS7 User Group.
Good work!
what tripod are you using?
Sachtler Flowtech 75 with FSB8 head.

You'll have to take that up with Sony.
