Back when the 1 o’clock, 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock news shows all had their own identity.
BBC
The best titles they ever did
Along with the 1985 to 1988 Nine O'clock News titles and theme music.
The days when all BBC News programs had proper theme tunes.
All gone to pot now
@@jacksugden8190 It really has. When I heard the boring ‘pips and beeps’ theme in 1999 (apart from being very disappointed) I thought it might only last a few years. 24 years later and we’re still here. They’ve got to ditch it sooner or later and get something decent back
@Captainpubwatch Exactly my sentiments. This was back when the BBC News exuded class, professionalism and authority.
@@CaptainpubwatchI'm glad i remember the virtual set music. We only watch the regional news these days
Agreed. Why even bother with today's blips and bleeps - puts people to sleep.
I well remember the theme tune - aged between fourteen and twenty three back then! Nick Witchell had hair!
He's not done too badly
Witchell always reminded me of my local doctor - they both looked very alike

Saludos desde México.Greetings from México.
Handy to have a transparent version to add ones own voice overs
And also when the lead presenter says, "Good Evening the headlines at Six O'clock".
I’d have better headlines
And you can be the continuity announcer if you want
Grabs you by the throat, then punches you in the face.
Nothing beats 1980s bombast.
0:00 - Now, on BBC1, the news.
Definitely not the snooze 💤
The announcement at 6pm over the clock in those days was most often just "This is BBC1"
Interested to read the comments, but nothing about the fact that it's two men reading the news. On no news programme on any channel would that happen now.
Remember back then, a lot of sexism did exist in the newsroom - Sue Lawley said she experienced it, as newsroom was a man's world back then
0:18 - The Six O'Clock News from the BBC, with two preppy redheaded men.
With Nicholas Witchell, who is sitting on a lesbian
What does preppy mean?
@@angelacooper2661 "of or typical of a student or graduate of an expensive prep school, especially with reference to their style of dress."
Moira Stewart was one of the anchors for years. I don't know what your complaining about!!
@@cloverfield911I'm not complaining - just baffled by a word that I have never come across. Moira Stuart was a consummate professional and I remember her very well. And I am also a redhead!
Just after Neighbours
Composer George Fenton I believe
It's him indeed
He's only 74 today, amazingly. Must have been pretty young when he composed this.
@@ajs41 He'd done plenty by then, including the Newsnight theme.
@@80sandretrogubbins25 Interesting, thanks.
What wer ther names?
Who let those two women into the studio?
