Pro tip! Set your seed cylinders in front of a fan for several days and rotate periodically for 3-4 days before setting outside. I find that one day of air drying just isn’t enough. The jays rip it apart within an hour. But if you sit it in front of a fan for several days, it will be ROCK SOLID! And the birds really have to work at it to get their treat. Great video!
Thank you!! Last year I bought so many logs! Like you said they are super expensive! This year I will make these and save some money for sure!! God bless!❤
The birds favorite at our place is definitely the logs. We have a similar feeder. Cost to buy a log has gotten out of hand. We've seen prices as high as 25.00 for one log. Make your own and save $$.
Hi! I am a fellow bird lover and have been watching so many videos about making suet. This is by far was the best explained and easiest! Thank you. 🥰 🩷 I have a suggestion. Many of us have bought those small suet cakes.. either from Amazon or big box stores. I think what I’m going to do is save the plastic container that they come in so I can do this right in that plastic housing? That way it comes out the exact same size. Also, I have purchased a huge big rectangle square suet from the big box stores as well, I think I will also save that plastic casing that it comes in and put your recipe right inside that so it fits perfectly. 😊 new subscriber, and looking forward to more bird videos. 🩷
Excellent. That is exactly what I do I should have said something like that in the video I am gonna try to do another video on doing suitcase suite cakes and I will definitely. Suggest that. I usually keep the containers and use them as a mold as well. I'm so glad you like my video please share it. God bless 💙🙏
I am a full time care giver to my dad with dementia..I started feeding birds so he can see the action. Interesting how parents with dementia cause their care givers to start feeding birds.
I get 40 pound bags of good quality bird seed for $18.00 at our local feed store. Look for a feed store for better prices on bird seed and corn critter food.
Yes u can. As long as u can slide it out if not cut both ends or another suggestion coat the inside with a little grease (lard) or oil and see if that helps I'd too hard to get out. Trial and error. God bless!
I have made 2 cylinders using your method and each time I try to take it out of my parchment paper lined container the top starts to crumble. They have sat in the fridge for over 6 hours the first time and over 36 hours the second time. Any suggestions why it's crumbling? Also what is the height of the pvc you use to take all 5 cups of seed in your video? Thanks.
Not sure why. Maybe put them in the freezer. Try that. Or maybe wait a few minutes longer before adding to the cylinders so that it's not as liquefied and it will not pull to the bottom of cylinder.
I was told by a worker at a Wild Bird store that if you don't use a birdseed with corn or sunflower seeds then the squirrels won't bother your bird feeder as much?? Is that true??
No you do not need to dry them if u will be using the logs right away If u r storing the logs put them in the freezer so no mold and take them out as you need them.
Bird seed logs are expensive lately. I make enough to last me the winter and it is well worth it. And fun! 😊 I get to add extra stuff that some.bird mixes don't have. Put them in the freezer until needed. So I disagree. But that's ok. Appreciate your comment.🙏😊
My five year old Grandson and I decided to make our own custom seed logs today. Last week I bought one seed log from the Backyard Bird's store, average ingredients, crumbling as I unwrapped it, $18.00 + tax. We bought enough ingredients, peanuts, sunflower seeds, oatmeal, craisins, etc, to make 40 or 50 seed logs for $130, that's $3.25 all in, and they are much higher quality logs. Aside from enjoying the project together, the whole operation took us less than an hour, including clean up.
Thanks for posting this! I was especially glad to that you posted the text of the "recipe".

Not true. The only seed squirrels dont like is safflower. They will eat everything else even dried mealworms
I have fresh cranberries. Should I dry them out first.

Can u add a tbl spoon of peanut butter to seeds before forming log
I have added almond butter before so I would say yes.
How many grams of Knox gelatin per packet. My package looks smaller than the one used. I am writing from toronto ontario canada
1 oz/ 28g packages
Hello Ontario!!! 💙🙏🥰
You can also use.
Vegetable shortening / lard in the winter time the birds love it!
Just make enough to cote the seeds
I was shocked at the price of Knox! Ridiculous.
They are $26 here!
No wayyy
what is that annoying background garble ??????
Don't think you're saving a lot of money..!!!
