    This was so ridiculously cool for me, all of it! I'm knackered and about to go to bed, but I'd love to see what you guys think/have been saying in the morning! I know it's not my standard fare but come on! I'll hope all the small communities and curious individuals over the years about this game come to find this stuff and enjoy it like I do. Cheers guys and thanks for watching!

    WOW!
    Out of all the games for the Xbox I think this one stuck with me the most. As a kid I used to struggle with it because I took it for a hack and slash game rather than a puzzle game. But later on when I came back to beat it I realized that this game was a piece of art altogether. The enemies, terrain, atmosphere, and music were all so cohesive with the themes of the environment.
    What also amazed me was the use of technology to maintain the elemental balance. Tapping into geothermal energy for power, purifying the air, collecting rain in reservoirs, using lasers to power certain keys, using drills and cranes to build a global infrastructure, electric trees, a giant crystal to regulate incoming solar energy, ice bridges, solar powered platforms/ lights, anti gravitational fields in conveyer belts, harmonic crystal locks, and probably a lot more than what I'm able to remember. The merge between sci-fi and magic was so smoothly done that it felt like its own genre!
    The enemies in this game were also a nice touch to the immersion. No enemy really felt out of place. Sometimes they were annoying (i.e. Sleeth on top of a ladder, yeah both of you), but because the game had no experience or gear system I began to appreciate the level of detail that was taken to make them rather than go on a killing spree. What I really liked is how every enemy was killable without cheats. I enjoyed the challenge of taking down a lavalar or even a barnacle! More often than not, however, I liked the fact that some things were just better left alone, that you didn't HAVE to kill everything.
    The most important thing to me about this game is the music. I LOVED the soundtrack so much that while playing I would sometimes turn off the master game volume in the settings just to listen to the music. I am so glad that the link has some of the songs featured in the game that are of better quality than when I first heard them on console. I only wish that more were released (other youtubers have tried but it's just not the same). My all time favorite songs were Voyage of the Clouds, Water Storm, City of Painted Light, the Earth Realm, and the title.
    Thanks for bringing back these memories! I definitely would like to see this game rendered with a modern engine just to see how well animated it could be, but as you say it would be a lot of work for a small community.

    Hey Potato, I just finished bingeing the whole series and man it was great. Brought back lots of memories being stuck and confused but it was awesome to finally see the game completed.
    It was cool learning more about the games lore too. I really appreciate how much effort went into building the ideas behind this world, it's just a little sad that they fell a bit short in execution.
    Cheers for doing this mate. You were bloody entertaining all the way through and congrats on the map.

    Consider it art! Get it lovingly mounted and framed (at least, when you can afford the small fortune it would cost, I think).
    Keep on geeking out. I've watched your play through of Azurik and was thinking of re-watching it and reading the developer's comments. Now, I really will. And, I'm looking forward to your next project. I hope you have a great day!

    That map is awesome! I'd totally get it restored and framed if I were you. Could use some kind of clear acrylic pane instead of glass, there is acrylic designed to keep sunlight from damaging paintings and fading the colors to keep it preserved. There might be glass with a similar coating as well but I've only looked into the acrylic.

    And then my partner, the librarian, said you should get it photocopied in a large format copier, and you should also get an acid free tube to store the 'original' copy that you have now, because it's precious to you.

    • @WoodenPotatoes
      @WoodenPotatoes  7 лет назад +1

      An acid free tube? Are these things expensive? How fast would this deterioriate, exactly!

    • @visiblejaguar2036
      @visiblejaguar2036 7 лет назад +1

      Yes, they're probably expensive. So, save up. I'll see if I can find (or the librarian can ) a real answer for you. Mine would be if you're legacy minded or want to have kids or if your heart would be broken if you were showing it to people and someone spilt a beverage on it, then it's worth it.

    • @visiblejaguar2036
      @visiblejaguar2036 7 лет назад +2

      The librarian said the chemicals in the tube will affect the poster, maybe not in ten years, but over decades. This doesn't sound like a worry, but decades go by faster than thought.
      Also, I just realized that an acid free tube would never protect against a spilt white russian.

    You won’t believe how many times I’ve watched this playthrough, man. Sure, the game is a bit wonky at times, nobody’s denying that. But it definitely has spirit! This game deserves a reimagining of some sort. It has the potential to be much more than the bargain-bin launch title nobody remembers, and to me it’s already much more than that. This game shaped my childhood in a way, and I took some mild inspiration from it here and there. I wish more people played this game, it’s so underrated!

    Are you kidding me? This is sweet, a revisit to one of the most memorable LP's I'd watched. It reminds me that Microsoft are doing some cool stuff (they've really turned themselves around for the better, gaming-wise) giving us Xbox original backwards-compatibility. So that could mean that a lot of new people could potentially end up playing this game and discovering this old gem. And who knows... if it sells well... could we even return to this world in a new title? That would be sweet, especially an LP.
