I heard from Morley Robbins that ferritin should not be in the serum at all - it should be 0!

Yes & no.. In my case higher ferrytyn were indicating future iron overload at time iron was ok but it changed later but the symptoms were right there even when ferrytyn were normal & elevated... Ast at some point was high so ggtp which still grows but Ast went back to normal... I still connect hemochromatosis to hypercalcemia & lack of vitamin d & disfunction of adrenal glands. It has huge impact on normal blood circulation by creating some blockages & by that artificial high blood pressure

Now I'm really confused. My ferritin was 4700. I have genes from both parents for HH. My AST and ALT have been high for years. I have been getting phlebotomies every week for 8 months and now my ferritin is down in the 100s. So I don't have HH?

I don’t even think I’ll ever get much better results. I have been losing my hair. Thought getting my ferritin level up would help.

@@berengereful Have you tried drinking raw liver shots? that helped me a lot. I had ferritin at 4 and went up to 34 in 20 days. It does not taste good but I was desperate. My problem is heavy bleeding due to uterine fibroids, so even though I get the ferritin up then it goes down again after every period. Things that helped me: avoid taking iron pills or iron rich foods at the same time with dairy, sugar, white bread, white rice, coffee, green tea, dandelion tea, sugars, chocolates or junk food. Instead take your pills with the juice of a freshly squeezed lemon/lime. Have lots of home made bone broth. Split your iron pills in smaller doses for example, I take 50mg of iron at breakfast, then 50mg at lunch and 50mg at dinner. Go to bed early and wake up early, drink a good water (hopefully real spring water), take little walks, take vitamin D and sunbathe, and pray to God so he shows you what way to follow. My husband's ferritin is 180 and he never get tired, and I have a friend that got her ferritin up from 14 to 29 in 4 days just taking her iron supplement, so we are all different don't give up and find a way to get it up so life gets easier and better. Hope that helps you.

Not abnormal for a female pre-menopausal. What is your TSAT%? Look that up. It's quite easy to find.

I realize your comment was two years ago, however . . . a ferritin level of 20 is considered iron deficient.
