Ahhhhhh... the secret is use the gate to control effects chains. With several gated tracks you can use different effects chains at different places within the effect-ed track. MIDI being the key to it all. Very clever! This could very powerful, especially with video tracks.
Followed tbis guide to the letter to gate a miced snaredrum. And It's not gating at all. Am I missing something? No parent tracks, just a midi track, and the snaredrum track.
This might be a dumb question but how can I kill audio on a track where the effect on it is time based or just rings out after the audio is done, ie delays, ring modulators. Keep the videos coming please!
Just add a gate before the time based effects, not after. That way you specify when you're sending a signal to the effect and when are you not. You can be creative with routing and do all sorts of stuff :)
Instead of painstakingly drawing automation to achieve similar effect, now we can just use a plugin. Super useful stuff. Thanks for sharing!
Geraint has so extreme good reaper components. You have to try his Humonica - Synth & Harmoniser. I use it in every track. It's awesome for vocals.

didn't think of it for video but yes I think that could be really cool. Another use would be a push to talk/push to mute button.
Exactly what I was looking for, and how I intended to use it :).
This is beyond awesome! Now I can control my reverb n tails to my liking without automation! WOW! Blew my mind!
you can set different midi buses for instrument and midi gate, so instrument won't get triggered and you can have gate on the same track

Very nice JSFX plugin, thanks :-D
Thanks!
thanks, man!
Dont get the difference between this and placing a gate/tremolo plugin on vst output channel?
guess you'll have to try it then. I thought from the examples it would be crystal clear.
The one track's notes are triggering the gate on the other track...
Can you do this with reaper stock too?
its free and made for reaper
how the f do you always know what i'm looking for :D
